Reports Magpies Have Signed French International

There are reports in the French press today that Newcastle have acquired the services of French International Yohan Cabaye, who plays for Lille.

Yohan Cabaye – French press say deal is done

Newcastle have been watching Lille a lot since Gervinho is one of Newcastle’s top targets, and the capture of the 25 year old would not be too much of a surprise, sicne they will have seen him play many times.

Cabaye has a £5M release clause in his contract – and the reports today suggest he met with Newcastle officials yesterday, and the signing will be made official in about 10 days time.

Maybe this is the deal Alan Pardew talked about early this week about tying up a player this week?

Cabaye plays as a box-to-box midfielder in the middle of the park, and is described as a player who possesses excellent vision, great ball control, and technical quality,  and he is also more than a decent penalty taker.

This even fits the description that Alan gave of the player they were after – Alan had said he played mainly in the middle of the park.

The Tourcoing born player joined Lille back in 1998 and played for all the French Youth sides (U-16, U-18, U-19, U-20, and U-21), and made 15 appearances for the French U21 side, before making his debut for the full France side last year.

He made his full French debut August in the team’s friendly match against Norway on 11th August 2010 under new manager Laurent Blanc.

In his career at Lille has made 252 appearances with 39 goals and 35 assists.

I must tape the Lille game against Rennes today to take a look at this lad – he certainly seems to have some quality.

Comments welcome.

Doubt it, but if we have then it is a brilliant signing. Will slot in nicely alongside Barton and Tiote in central midfield.

Nothing wrong with looking at the French leagues atm, lots of potential.

I think Yohan was the surprise signing. I’m not sure. However, he is brilliant. He’s a free kick specialist if people don’t know. Huge flair, will work perfect alongside/behind Arfa. Cannot wait. Looks like its concrete. Facebook/Twitter/Youtube = source.
    Flair Newcastle?

would be a class signing for 5mil..if these deals come off next season will be very exciting.

i had a look on some lille blogs and they are very complementary to us and cabaye alike. they seem to think he’s off

This guy is good. He’s like a creative CM that we need. First season he should probably be sub as he gets used to the Prem but i think he can be a very good player in the future

    Krul

    Simpson Saylor Coloccini M’Bengue

    Gervinho Tiote Nolan Ben Arfa

    Ba Gamiero

    Subs:
    Harper
    Williamson
    Ferguson
    Gutierrez
    Cabaye
    Ameobi

35 assists in 252 appearances not exactly the rate of involvement that you would expect for someone being bought to replace joey barton.

I have watched him a few times this year he is 10* better than barton. The french press were shocked he is coming to us thinking it would be someone like barca.

I think his release is 5mil euros rather than £s, as that is what we have supposedly bid for him. Bargain at 5mil Euros

not just about assists mate xavi only got 7 this year. ben arfa and whoever else comes in on the wings will get most assists but cabaye would link everything together

    Why so negative….

Cabaye has scored 30 in 190
Barton has scored 20 in 210

So is Barton now the one that doesnt get invloved enough?

If only we could keep Jose and Big Kev.
I still think Gervinho is out of our league at the moment, but Gameiro could still be possible.

I think in this transfer window it could be just as important who we retain then who comes in. If Nolan would just sign up, then Jose might do the same…

Can anyone remember me telling them that cabaye approached my pal last summer who is involved in youth football in Lille, for there academy and is a wallsend lad. Cabaye approached him and was asking lots of questions about the north east. I also said we had a option of purchasing him for 3.8 million

i will be so happy if this really happens. I know him from Football Manager (the game), and it’s absolutely amazing!

yesterday, I read on Danny Simpson’s Twitter that he invited Rossi to Newcastle in July….. And as a reponse, Rossi asked Danny to say wasup to the toon for him….

Cabaye would be a cracking signing i`ve seen Lille play quite abit this season due to the Gervinho link and this guy is really good.

He is one of their best players along with Hazard. Gervinho and Sow have there moments but the other two are the best they have 5m is Ridiculously cheap.

He just says deals are done etc on players we are linked with. He hasn`t mentioned anything on Cabaye until he saw it today.

cwarr07 got the deals for tiote, benarfa, pardew spot on well before it was reported so he’s an okayish source does get some wrong though. we will see how accurate he is soon i guess (nzogbia, gervinho, gameiro, mbengue) and now cabaye
