There are reports in the French press today that Newcastle have acquired the services of French International Yohan Cabaye, who plays for Lille.

Newcastle have been watching Lille a lot since Gervinho is one of Newcastle’s top targets, and the capture of the 25 year old would not be too much of a surprise, sicne they will have seen him play many times.
Cabaye has a £5M release clause in his contract – and the reports today suggest he met with Newcastle officials yesterday, and the signing will be made official in about 10 days time.
Maybe this is the deal Alan Pardew talked about early this week about tying up a player this week?
Cabaye plays as a box-to-box midfielder in the middle of the park, and is described as a player who possesses excellent vision, great ball control, and technical quality, and he is also more than a decent penalty taker.
This even fits the description that Alan gave of the player they were after – Alan had said he played mainly in the middle of the park.
The Tourcoing born player joined Lille back in 1998 and played for all the French Youth sides (U-16, U-18, U-19, U-20, and U-21), and made 15 appearances for the French U21 side, before making his debut for the full France side last year.
He made his full French debut August in the team’s friendly match against Norway on 11th August 2010 under new manager Laurent Blanc.
In his career at Lille has made 252 appearances with 39 goals and 35 assists.
I must tape the Lille game against Rennes today to take a look at this lad – he certainly seems to have some quality.

Doubt it, but if we have then it is a brilliant signing. Will slot in nicely alongside Barton and Tiote in central midfield.
Nothing wrong with looking at the French leagues atm, lots of potential.

I think Yohan was the surprise signing. I’m not sure. However, he is brilliant. He’s a free kick specialist if people don’t know. Huge flair, will work perfect alongside/behind Arfa. Cannot wait. Looks like its concrete. Facebook/Twitter/Youtube = source.

This guy is good. He’s like a creative CM that we need. First season he should probably be sub as he gets used to the Prem but i think he can be a very good player in the future

oh i also read some said best is our rudd van nistelrooy:D that his a clinical finisher:D ok, he scored 7 goals (he claims he could score so much more) but 4 of his 7 were a deflections from the keeper.. hes ok..but a very good finisher? think again.. hes was lucky to get 7. good backup…but thats it.

Cabaye would be a cracking signing i`ve seen Lille play quite abit this season due to the Gervinho link and this guy is really good.
He is one of their best players along with Hazard. Gervinho and Sow have there moments but the other two are the best they have 5m is Ridiculously cheap.

We could probably see Cabaye come in as Bartons replacement.
For 5 million euros, i would like to see him come in and Barton out. Bartons wages are through the roof and Cabayes wouldn’t be due to how low they are in ligue1.

I think this lad has a bright future and will be a decent signing for Newcastle. Never seen him play, but he sounds great! But hope more that Barton signs a new contract. If Barton dosnt, I think Charlie Adam would be the perfect replacement for him! If Nolan and Enrique signs too an we get Ba/Gervinho/Gameiro and Zgobia I think the next season will be fantastic for us! Good players from France fits all in the Premier League!
