The Daily Express is reporting today that owner Mike Ashley stormed out of St James’s Park minutes after the final whistle last Sunday, furious that Newcastle had given away a three goal lead to WBA with 30 minutes remaining of the season, and with it a very good 9th place.
Mike Ashley – storms out of St. James’ Park
That doesn’t surprise us one little bit, because we were furious too.
How can a home side in front of 52000 fans give away 3 goals, when they had reached the highest target they could have wished for – 9th place – in their first season back in the Premier League?
We don’t know the answer to that, but we can hardly blame Mike for that – most Newcastle fans felt the same way and booed the side off the pitch.
But we’re over it now, but that’s hardly a good sign for Alan Pardew – who may have also come under some fire from the owner after the game.
It also meant that the non-playing staff at Newcastle didn’t get the £500K bonus Mike had promised if Newcatsle had won the game, so all in all last Sunday was tragic – and also allowed Sunderland to finish above us in the league.
But as we said we’ve got over it now – and I’ve go a pain in my shoulder just thinking about it again, 😀
It also cost the club about £2.4M in prize money and in our report after the game mentioned that Mike Ashley wouldn’t have been too happy.
But like all of us, Mike seems to be over it now, and is engaged fully in getting new signings at the club to strengthen the Newcastle squad.
And from what we can tell Newcastle have already put in bids for at least six new players, and it has to be upwards and onwards from now on.
Comments welcome.

Comment #6I see we are linked with Bentley from Spurs again. Not sure why, we wouldn’t take him in January, why would we take him now. Too much of an attitude for my liking.

Comment #15Bentley! No thanks. Seems to me that every time I come onto the blog to see what the latest is, we’re linked with another player. Love the fact that we are being linked with a lot of players but I just want something official to be announced, Something really positive to get us really buzzing about next season. Just hope all this early movement we seem to be making is an attempt to ge in before everyone else, before the bidding wars start, Maybe if it goes to plan, we could have all our deals done before the start of pre-season, gives the team time to gel. Be prepared early and we might have a bit of a jump start at the begining of the season. I live in hope!

Comment #17I take it you didnt read the comment below the article Ed?
I have just read this article and can say immediately that it is a piece of fabricated, made up rubbish! I was at the game last week and, although no big fan of Mike Ashley, I can categorically state that myself, my wife and my kids all commented on the fact that we saw Mike Ashley sit after the match had ended and waited for the lap of appreciation from the players. I remember thinking that he mustn’t be happy sitting waiting for them to come back out but he did wait and stayed.
I doubt that my comment will stay on this page for long but the author of this rubbish has simply made it up to try and cause trouble. What a waste of time. Absolutely pathetic.

Comment #38I saw this on the Express site last night and sent a comment in. Seems that no one else can view it and they haven’t even given the name of the “reporter” – more like a fiction writer – because they know that this is made up.
Whatever you say about Ashley he was there for the lap of appreciation. I remember commenting that he wouldn’t be happy about sitting waiting for them to come back out – but he did.
To say that “most Newcastle fans felt the same way and booed the side off the pitch” is also wrong. There was a small section that booed and subsequently left the ground (the wife stated at the time that they were like bairns spitting out a dummy) but the majority didn’t and stayed to applaud and cheer the team for the work they put in over the whole season.

Comment #39I heard this story last week from a member of nufc staff straight after the game. From what I was told he was meant to stay in the ground as per last year for end of season party but he walked out.
Maybe there is a little truth in it just the timings are wrong
Either way he deserves to be gutted, I like the rest of the crowd can’t understand how we lost the lead we had
Anyway stop ur bitching lads and get behind the team, what ever team we end up with
I’m with Davy Craig not that many booed and those that did I wouldn’t let in next year

Just read through the posts after writing above and saw that you quoted my post on the Express page.
Thanks for that.
I’m not blaming Ed for this. After all he runs this site and allows everyone to have their say. He simply printed the story in the Express.
We were actually there and saw what happened but the Express are just playing games here.
