Newcastle Will Not Be Signing Seb Larsson

News today that Newcatsle have pulled out of the race to sign free agent Seb Larsson.

Seb Larsson – Newcastle have pulled out

In January Newcatsle were in negotiations with Larsson’s agent to sign the player, when Birmingham again decided he would not be allowed to leave Birmingham.

But if you are to believe the Sunday Sun today Newcastle are after better players than Sebastian, and will not pursue their interest.

That sounds like PR to us, and Seb was a good player and a great crosser of the ball.

But Sunderland, Blackburn and Stoke City are after the player and it’s a bit of a mystery to us why Newcastle have pulled out.

We were hoping he could be signed and take the place of Joey Barton on Newcastle’s right wing – if Joey does leave this summer, which seems more likely than not.

It could be that the way is now open for Sunderland to sign the player. 🙁

We had hoped Larsson would become a Newcastle player this summer, so we are disappointed at this news.

What do you think?

A good squad player but it seems we’re after bigger fish, he was rubbish when he played against us a few weeks ago so he went down in my estimation

very average – would have been ideal for bulking up the squad would demand 40k + as hes a free so not really value. also been on the lash all weekend but i did see we had put an improved bid in for m’bengue. hate to say it but i also told u all throu the week we were close to agreeing a deal for 6.7mill euros

Him not coming in suggests to me that we are going to rely on our young players to bulk up the squad for next year. We already have Raylor Lua Lua and Ferguson who can all step in to play rm/lm so we don’t really need him

Who is the “we” you refer to ed? Don’t see many posts representing expressing. Even for free he would represent at best third choice right sided MF. Hes no where near a replacement for Joey Barton either.

Seems a though were after “better players” on lower wages ?
I cant wait until the season starts if the rumours of Gervinho and Gameiro Cheikh Mbengue etc are to be believed.
If not, what would be the point of the rumours?
I wont get any more season ticket holders to renew, and wont make any want aways want to stay (Jose and Jonas).
I suppose it could be just journos making things up to sell papers, but to me (and I could be wrong) there are too many different sources with the same info for it to all be wrong.
If half of the rumours are true then were in for a bit of a roller-coaster next season and beyond.
I just cant wait to be a part of it !!!

Does this mean that gervinho is coming? A right sided player surely it was going to be either gervinho, Menez or Larsson.

Is this transfer news with cabaye, gervinho and Gameiro to good to be true?

Too good to be true ?
Time will tell, things in our favour
    – Getting in early before the money teams kick-start the fury with the big money signings
    – Having hard cash up front (this one is massive)
    – Our scouting system asking about availability for some players since last summer.
All in all, things look like they’re heading in the right direction , just hope its not too much too soon.

I’ve read a lot of articles on this site but just signed up so I could say my bit…WHAT DOES THIS SITE LOVE ABOUT SEB – I’M AN AVERAGE PLAYER AT MY ABSOLUTE BEST – LARSSON SO MUCH? i mean seriously this site has banged on about this guy for literally years! he’s got no pace…non…he’s little greedy sh@te as well. Granted i’ve seen worse but c’mon man let up he did nothing special and did not shine in a very poor birmingham team. I will make a similar comment every time this guy has a new article on this site from now on…just to make my point!

    Larsson has disappeared form-wise.
Ever since he strutted around when he was in demand, he’s been CRAP.
    Delighted we’ve pulled the plug.

Kevsy123 – my neighbor is Swedish and a big football supporter – so that’s one main reason I was hoping Seb would sign – we’d have another Newcastle supporter.
But you’re right – I’ve had about 100 articles on this guy in the last 4 years . 😀

…been more impressed with other names mentioned recently with the likes of gervinho, emana, gameiro, barnetta all have some real quality about there game….but most excited about cabaye if we get him for the reported £5m would be a steal in same bracket as the ben arfa or tiote deals…he’s class!

decent player seb is , he would be a great addition to the squad, people need to understand that we are not the Newcastle of old, and wont be able to attract the same players as before. I think at least half the PL would have him as a squad player , why not hes worth a punt

I dont see why we dont make a bid for “Berbatov”…. hes 30 yrs old and surely wont be playing for that much longer. He’d get us 15 to 20 goals per season and we could pick him up for about £10 – 12 million, bargin surely ??

I think it is a good call to leave him alone. I saw him when Birmingham came to SJP and although he played an alright game against us, he was confrontational with everyone on the pitch from the ref to our players, even his own team mates. There are other players out there who are better than him and who would carry on the feel good factor at Newcastle. Im was always worried he would be like Craig Bellamy back in the end of the Robson golden age, bringing disputes and friction to the dressing room… not what we need ever again!

I wanted him in. Clearly has crossing ability. I think it was more the team that made him look crap. They even made Hleb and Bentley look crap this year! Hopefully someone better comes instead though..

    Average player ……
Had had some good games, can cross nad scores goals. Definetly would be good squad member if not a first 11 regular.

If, as Ed says, we are after better fine – but if its we will not meet his demands (obviously high as there is no fee involved) then we may as well start looking at the bottom of the table as FatAsh is not interested in the team – only money

Actually hoping we would`nt sign him.
He`s a very average player and to bring him in for any reason other than as a backup, would show a lack of ambition !
I suggest we leave him to Sunderland, they are going nowhere!
