We thought this summer’s transfer market could be an exciting one for Newcastle fans.
Alan Pardew – wants some bargains this summer
And from what’s happened so far, that could turn out to be very true, with Newcastle already bagging Johan Cabaye from Lille for a low price of just £4.3M.
And there seems little doubt that Newcastle have done a tremendous amount of work this year, in getting fully prepared for the upcoming transfer market.
The club have already put in bids for a least 5 players, and presumably have had two already accepted – for Cabaye and a £10M offer accepted by Lorient for French International striker Kevin Gameiro.
The news is the club are not talking to Kevin Gameiro and his agent and trying to persuade the lad to come to Tyneside.
The Newcastle Chronicle is reporting today that Newcastle are also planning moves for some of European football’s top up-and-coming young stars.
It would be good to bring in some top young players, because they are usually very good value for money, but there is also news today that Newcastle are after some established stars like Dimitar Berbatov and Demba Ba.
Newcastle may think that £7.5M for the Bulgarian star striker is just too good a deal to turn down for a world class striker, and the news is they have met that Red Devils valuation of the player, which Newcastle can also pay in cool cash.
We are hoping these reports are true- but the truth is you never really know.
One reason Mike Ashley has insisted on Newcastle being in good financial shape, is that he wants to be able to pay cash up front for all transfers, and of course the £35M Newcastle got for Andy Carroll – £30M in cash – will help with that effort big time this summer.
Mike rightly gets criticized for some of the things he does on Tyneside, but this paying cash up front for transfers will see every club in Europe wanting to do business with the Magpies.
That has to be good for the club.
And Pardew is looking for some top bargains this summer too:
“There are bargains out there,” “Look at Javier Hernandez at Manchester United, he was their player of the year. Six million pounds.”
“You’ve got to be clever, and on the transfer front, I think we’ve got enough going on to suggest another Cheick could arrive.”
“Hopefully it will because they’re very, very rare, to get a player who can make that sort of impact in his first year.”
A combination of mature talent plus some top young players would be a great mix for Newcastle to bring in this summer, but from the level of activity in the market so far from the club, we could well see five top players arrive this summer.
Comments welcome.

Comment #1Surely he would’ve been better mentioning Tiote. He was the 2nd best bargain of the season imo just behind Odemwingie

Comment #12Exactly NottsGeordie when you buy players like Gameiro you have expectations when we signed Tiote we had none and he blew us away….THAT is what I am looking forward to next season to be blown away again 😀
I have hopes for Cabaye could be exciting if that deal comes off

Comment #207.5 mill for a 30 year old, moody striker on high wages, who dosent turn up if its to cold, smoker, good luck team spirit, no sell on value doubt it struridge represents better value for money than berbatov, and gamerio hes unproven in the PL might be a flop to big a risk in my book remember stafan guirach, hugo viana, albert lugkie, xisco kid we have been burned bad in the past a soft touch.

Comment #21Has the club actually OFFICIALLY announced ANY SIGNINGS at all yet?
I hate to be a party pooper of sorts and I’m as excited as anyone but if Cabaye has signed, or will sign on the 1/6/11 then why haven’t the club said so?

Comment #23Still don’t know what Jose wants to do, do we? I know the chance is slim, but there’s no point assuming anything when his advisor is talking with the board. We will know in a few hours, hopefully.
I would like to see Nolan and Barton staying, but it won’t be end of world if they leave. Having said that, I would prefer them to leave after next season to make sure of a settled squad for the new campaign.

Comment #24If Berbatov really wants to wear the Newcastle No9 shirt he might be persuaded to come to play for us.
Pardew might be able to relight Ashley’s fire and get him to throw a few extra million into the club?

Comment #25Let’s hope we sign Enrique to a new contract. That would be immense. I think the club with the positive news they are making would encourage him that we are going places. I am positive that we will get Gervinho and Gamiero. As well as Cabaye, Enrique would be mad to leave with his mates Collo and Jonas here. With Ben Arfa joinging his French pals and the three amigos, something special ould be brewing…hopefully.

Comment #33HEY GUYS PARDEW TODAY HAS SAID:
“This summer will give me an opportunity to bring in some aspects of the squad that I think are missing,” said Pardew. “That’s pace, athleticism and quality.
“Although we have that in the squad, we need more of it. Those three areas are the areas that I’m targeting to improve.
“It’s about attracting as many good players as we can. I don’t think you need to look at our squad very long to work out that we need somebody who can open up a defence, whether that’s by taking a player on or producing a magical pass, or one of each. That kind of area is where I am going.”
That’s EXACTLY what we need! It’s looking really promising 🙂 And we’ve apparantly already signed Yohan Cabaye and will be revealed on June 6th.
Happy days ahead 🙂

Comment #34as for berbatov:
– 30 y.o.
– lazy (actually cant run cos he smokes 2 packs a day)
– is on huge wages
– totaly inconsistent (1 match he scores 5 on in the next he misses 5 sitters)
– he scored 20 yes..but in 7 matches..in others he was just useless
– another man utd reject..like we havent signed enough of them..& they were all good..in CHAMPIONSHIP.

Comment #35Its taken two years but maybe, just maybe people are starting to realise that Mike Ashley IS the man to take NUFC forward. Running the club properly, making money, buying the right calibre players for reasonable money. £35M for a player they were offered £3M the previous year from Stoke is brilliant business, especially when 5-6 players will come in and make this club even stronger. In 3 years we will be back to where we were 15 years ago, providing Ashley stays, mark my words

Comment #38Am i the only one who does not want berbatov? He has only scored so many goals this season because his supply was so good, alot of his goals have been tap ins, it also helps when you score 5 against a team that should have been relegated this season. the last few games i have saw him in hes been the worst player on the pitch, did you see his miss against city? He would cost a fortune in wages and is the wrong side of 30. I would rather we bought gameiro.

this was my very first year of supporting the Magpies on a full time basis (previously had a “yeah whatever” attitude) and I for one was absolutely chuffed by what I saw each and every game, yes even when we lost. That’s all a part of football folks!
However, the biggest disappointment for me this year didn’t come from the owner (who I’ve been led to believe is a “fill in the blanks with whatever insulting negative obscenity you can think of” man).
Nor did it come from the manager (“lap dog mouthpiece” etc.etc.etc.)
Not even from the players who went out every week and played their very hardest for the club, sometime successfully, sometimes not.
No the biggest disappointment for me this year came from the loud mouthed, opinionated, bigotted people on this blog who proclaim to be fans of the best club IN THE WORLD!
Constructive criticism is always welcome. Whingeing, bitching, sulking, complaining, insulting, attacking have no place here.
If you support, then SUPPORT!
Club, Manager, Players, Fans, Ed, Each Other!
Lastly thank you Ed for bringing the news (wrong or otherwise) to me each day. I’ve enjoyed reading every article written and I appreciate your tiresome efforts. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my first year and look forward to many more.
C’mon the Toon!
