The Journal is reporting today that Newcastle have had a £10M offer accepted late last week for Kevin Gameiro.
Kevin Gameiro - top target of Newcastle
But we all know that Gameiro’s preference is Spain, but his club Lorient are more than anxious to do business with Newcastle, since they will get the £10M up front in cool cash.
The ability of Newcatsle to pay money up front in cash for all their transfer business this summer will be a huge positive for the club.
That’s one reason why they have quickly accepted Newcastle’s improved bid but now the club will need to persuade Kevin that Newcastle would be a good club for him.
His preference is to join a Spanish club and Valencia are in for him.
Seville and Paris-Saint Germain are also after the player, but they will not be able to pay the wages Newcastle will offer the player.
Kevin is still said to be open to moving to the Premier League, but let’s hope he’ll not just move to Newcastle for the extra money he can get, which has happened far too much in the past.
That’s one thing Newcastle have to be very wary about this summer, since the Newcastle team spirit remains of paramount importance.
And it seems that Newcastle will sign either Gameiro or Gervinho – but not both, but the Journal says Gameiro is Newcastle’s number one choice.
If they cannot persuade Gameiro to come to Tyneside, then they move for Gervinho and the fee again is expected to be around £10M.
That makes sense since Newcastle will not being in all the players they are currently pursuing, and there has to be a priority for which ones they will go for first.
That’s true in the striker hunt where today we are said to be after both Berbatov and Demba Ba, but other strikers such as Kevin Gamerio, Shane Long and even Daniel Sturridge are also on have also got Newcastle’s attention.
If Newcastle have 5 positions they are targeting, think of five columns with a priority order in each column.
And then Newcastle will go down each column and try to sign as high up the list as possible – starting at the top candidate – but only one player will be signed from each column.
Gameiro and Gervinho seem to be in the same column.
We would think Newcastle will sign two out-and-out strikers in the summer – but who those will turn out to be – we have no idea.
And Newcastle are expected to go in for another French winger – Charles N’Zogbia of Wigan – as their initial paltry bid of £5M was turned down.
So Newcastle seemingly have many different targets lined up at the moment – and the next step is to close one or two of the deals in process.
Comments welcome.

7 Stuart // May 31, 2011 at 11:19 AM
I cant see us playing Gervinho up front as he’s a much better winger so theres no reason why we wouldnt be in for them both really.
I think we’ve got Gervinho in the bag, valencia wont be able to match our bid for Gameiro so unless another spanish team comes in for him we should have him aswell.
8 GeordieToon89 // May 31, 2011 at 11:20 AM

I’d much prefer Gameiro and Gervinho than N’Zogbia and one of them.

Stuart the news going around is that we want to play Gervinho as a striker not a winger (I agree that its a dumb idea but we love dumb ideas in NUFC)

My eyes light up at the prospect of signing this lad, he is that good, but I wouldn’t want us to go down the road of having to beg anyone to play for us, like we always say, we only want players who want to play for NUFC and not just here for a pay packet a la Michael Owen

absolutely agree with tweaked. was only last season when wigan were strugglin and zog wanted off to birmingham. tbh, dont know much about both gam and gerv, but it strikes me if we need both a striker and winger these two would make sense so i question why we dont go for both. that aside still concerned neither have EPL experience and we are paying hefty money for either. wonder if we should pursue sturridge in addition, good young english player, dont even go there with berbatov. think pardew and ashley need to get real. lots of average players in the squad which need to go, we all know who they are so it will be interesting to see how transfers develop over the next couple of weeks

I’d still really like to see Sturridge come in. Gervinho’s a winger, so he shouldn’t be in the same category as Gameiro, even though he can play up front.
Those three would make me happy. I have VERY mixed feelings about Berbatov, but I wouldn’t grumble if he arrived.
24 The Entertainers // May 31, 2011 at 11:36 AM

25 bazzer // May 31, 2011 at 11:36 AM
Hasn’t Pardew already said that he’s going to play Ben Arfa off the front man next year? IMHO, he is going to be better than everyone that we have been linked to in that role, so makes sense that we prioritise that front man. I drool over them two, with Gervinho on the wing though.
26 TBETTOON // May 31, 2011 at 11:38 AM

Gameiro
Sturridge

I really hope we can Gervinho and Gameiro together. I know just one would be great, but I’m getting greedy now !!
If we really are looking to play football rather than hoof ball to a target man, then Gameiro in front of Ben Arfa and Gervinho and A.N.OTHER on the other wing would be fantastic.
If not Gameiro, Sturridge is the obvious other candidate if we are going to do our version of Barcelona.
59 colwell // May 31, 2011 at 12:00 PM
I think we should try and get Ba on a free. He`s taken too the league well and has the height that If our targets come off we will need in games. The average height in our team will be about 4ft 2 lol.

It wasnt.
He said Cabaye has chosen to join Newcastle. The choice is done. We met a get out clause which the manager also confirmed and agreed terms with him. Done deal unless we pull out.
The reason we are not announcing anything yet is based on two reasons.
1. the deal cannot be officially confirmed until the correct period of transfers. Legal.
2. The club does all its business behind closed doors. Even if that business becomes public, Mike Ashley will not allow comment on things until he gives the go ahead. We all know and moan about this lol. Its not news. Plus Id rather hear when its done, signed, sealed and legally dusted.

106 colwell // May 31, 2011 at 12:29 PM
Height is deffo not a factor but on the other hand I wouldn`t even try to compare us to what Barca do lol.
Barcelona don`t have to play teams like Stoke,Wolves,Blackburn etc who play awful high ball football and win everything in the air and just make endless dangerous tackles.
Barce have Messi who is like 4 players in 1 anyway we don`t.
I don`t want a team of giants but a little height would help just to give us another option. Pretty football won`t work all the time. Arsenal for example.
107 GeordieToon89 // May 31, 2011 at 12:31 PM
well if Gemeiro does come down tomorrow or whenever hopefully we show him the stadium and not the training ground haha as the training grounds abit of a tip with the pitches getting undersoil heating n tht ha

Angryman, toonbelmonter & GeordieToon, thank you for showing some intelligence on here, it appears to be lacking today.
I’ve been posting on here a long time now, and never got into an argument, so I wont now. I have a Uni exam in four hours, so I’m going to go eat and watch some tv
All I’m trying to say, is anyone who has supported this club for more than a year should know that it’s very very risky to get your hopes up with this club. Especially over rumors with little known backing.
112 Nufc_mo // May 31, 2011 at 12:33 PM
@Angryman
I wouldnt know whats being said over twitter, only what i hear regurgitated here… Don’t really use twitter… only signed up the other day to keep up to date with the Barton situtation… and even then i havent logged on in a few days
@Toondownsouth
i wasnt nit picking at anything. I was showing you that the quote did not prove your point as the context it is in suggest that the Cabaye deal has been done, whereas the term Like suggest that he only has aspirations? (cant think of another word atm) to join the club and no agreement has occured.

Haha SWP hes awful!!!
114 GeordieToon89 // May 31, 2011 at 12:33 PM
De Gea has said himself that he hasnt agreed to a move, thats why tht deal isnt confirmed.. Cabaye said himself tht he’s agreed to come to us.. also the new Atletico Madrid president has said he still would like to keep De Gea
115 ToonDownSouth // May 31, 2011 at 12:34 PM

Oh Dear Bills-son,
Think you lost the plot there bonny lad.
You have become very forgetful??
i can recall at least three of us on here were shouted down by you at the begining of the January transfer window, how Super Mike would surprise us all by bringing in some super dooper players to help Big AC.
Oh aye you did you fibber!!
And whats with the laugh, are we losing the plot somewhat Billys sonner???
Bit of a loon like ye arent ya!

Galatasaray officially signed Elmander on monday is this due to being a different country?
If so why has the N`zogbia deal not been announced?
118 colwell // May 31, 2011 at 12:36 PM
Surely if you can announce players in England then the done deal for N`Zogbia should have been completed?

also can someone who says we cant announce transfers till window opens how come Man Utd signed Lindegaard in november last year he got announced and was training with man utd until January but he couldnt play in any games at any level until window opened.. we can announce signings they just cant be registered to play in a game as they dont become official until window opens

No problem mate, no argument, its a discussion board. I just think right now (since Ashley made his initial mistakes) the fans are split and he is our very own marmite.
People will back him or fight him without any thought on any and all subjects.
Trust me If he cocks up I dont stand behind him but I just think everything adds up at the moment. Not just these twitter sources, its everywhere in the media.
All i know is we will see come the new season for final opinions but right now I believe the interest in these players and the active approach shown by the club. But thats just me
122 ashington-geordie // May 31, 2011 at 12:37 PM
Everybody is so gullible when it comes to our transfers. Cwarr07 on twitter who has reliable sources, and knew about the cabaye deal the day before it was announced, has ALREADY RUBBISHED THE BERBATOV AND BS RUMOURS. 125 Nufc_mo // May 31, 2011 at 12:38 PM
@Toonbelmonter
Today is the first ive heard of Vaughan being announced, and maybe i was slightly misinformed about the information regarding announcments
But here is your explanation from Magpietillidie22
“2. The club does all its business behind closed doors. Even if that business becomes public, Mike Ashley will not allow comment on things until he gives the go ahead. We all know and moan about this lol. Its not news. Plus Id rather hear when its done, signed, sealed and legally dusted.”
Did the club come out and confirm the signing of Abeid? To my knowledge they did not… but he is now a Magpie. Its exactly the same as Cabaye.
126 Nufc_mo // May 31, 2011 at 12:38 PM

127 Magpietillidie22 // May 31, 2011 at 12:39 PM
Colwell.
Elmander was a free agent lol
And N’zogbia FEE has alledgedly been agreed. He himself is holiday. But i havent claimed we have signed him anyway. We are talking about Cabaye here arent we?
128 09nufc09 // May 31, 2011 at 12:39 PM
You cant sign players from abroad until 6th june, you can sign players from pl championship ect from the end of the last game.
‘if the players we were being linked with on twitter were reliable then the press would of picked up on it’ from were im sitting we were being linked with gervinho, gameiro and nzog on twitter and who are we being linked with in the local press??
Cabaye will be announced on the 6th june along with anyone else we have signed from abroad, nzog deal can be done at anytime from the last game.
129 toonbelmonter(barnetta4nufc) // May 31, 2011 at 12:40 PM

141 ToonDownSouth // May 31, 2011 at 12:47 PM
mo, would you not like N’Zog? I know he was a bit of a kn0b, but he is premiership proven.
In the whole of Europes top five leagues, only Messi attempted more dribbles than him haha. Clearly they were far more effective, else Wigan wouldn’t have just stayed up!
Magpietillidie, I’m far from an Ashley hater as well, and I know that if we do get some decent deals in early, it’ll be partly down to his good business acumen.
Unfortunately I think sacking Hughton and selling Carroll (regardless of the back story) was probably the last straw for a lot of people.

147 Magpietillidie22 // May 31, 2011 at 12:50 PM
GeordieToon
lol come on man… thats not how it works for christ sake.
Look heres a reality check.
Clubs work in different ways. Legally clubs cannot officially announce an international player until a transfer period (6th June) OR unless they are out of contract.
However some clubs, whether it is the one selling or the one buying may decide it would be good press to announce it before hand. Thats up to the club. But I think anyone who has been a NUFC fan since Ashley arrived knows the guy does not communicate well and definitely communicates on HIS terms at HIS choice of time….
Now lets be sensible lol

He comes off (to me atleast) as a player who will come for the money (apparantly we are offering a 60k contract) and then leave to what he percieves is a bigger club….
Don’t trust the player in all honesty… if he was to snub a club like liverpool/Arsenal to still join Newcastle, i may change my opinion…

157 GeordieToon89 // May 31, 2011 at 12:56 PM
Darren Bent could be on the move from Aston Villa. Recent rumours about Ashley Young and Stewart Downing leaving could give Bent thoughts about a move, which would allert Newcastle, Fulham and Arsenal.

Yeah I said the same thing about Gameiro. If a player says he really wants spain move then you should say ok fair play and move on.
If valencia dont come calling and we sign him as his 2nd choice lol he’d leave us at the drop of a hat for the next Spanish interest shown lol
161 stevep // May 31, 2011 at 12:58 PM
French transfer window opens on 9th June so no transfers can be made official until then and only pre-agreements made
We are apparantly after both Gervhino and Gamiero, the former is more of a winger and not an out and out striker while the latter is a striker
We are not after BA whilst Berbatov is clearly paper talk, no way would Ashley buy a 30 year old for 7.5 million and 80k a week
Shane Long a possibility
Zogs will depend on agreeing a fee as the player himself would welcome a move back to toon – wigan need to remember he can leave for free at end of next season!

No point signing a proven player for 10mill then only selling him for 11mill a few seasons later…
Ashley is a proven Gambler and will take the risk of a 5mill unproven talent from abroad in hopes that in a few seasons his price will double, if not triple..

Don’t see what NAPPA has said that is so wrong!? What has Ashley done since he has been here to make people think he will spend all this money? As for £35million from Carroll, that is not his, he didn’t bring Carroll through the academy, he was there long before Ashley.
For all the Ashley lovers please add up the values of all of the players he has sold or bought……………..
