Newcastle Have £10M Offer Accepted For Kevin Gameiro

11:10 am, Tuesday, May 31st, 2011 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 216 Comments

The Journal is reporting today that Newcastle have had a £10M offer accepted late last week for Kevin Gameiro.

Kevin Gameiro - top target of Newcastle

But we all know that Gameiro’s preference is Spain,  but his club Lorient are more than anxious  to do business with Newcastle, since they will get the £10M up front in cool cash.

The ability of Newcatsle to pay money up front in cash for all their transfer business this summer will be a huge positive for the club.

That’s one reason why they have quickly accepted Newcastle’s improved bid but now the club will need to persuade Kevin that Newcastle would be a good club for him.

His preference is to join a Spanish club and Valencia are in for him.

Seville and Paris-Saint Germain are also after the player, but they will not be able to pay the wages Newcastle will offer the player.

Kevin is still said to be open to moving to the Premier League, but let’s hope he’ll not just move to Newcastle for the extra money he can get, which has happened far too much in the past.

That’s one thing Newcastle have to be very wary about this summer, since the Newcastle team spirit remains of paramount importance.

And it seems that Newcastle will sign either Gameiro or Gervinho – but not both, but the Journal says Gameiro is Newcastle’s number one choice.

If they cannot persuade Gameiro to come to Tyneside, then they move for Gervinho and the fee again is expected to be around £10M.

That makes sense since Newcastle will not being in all the players they are currently pursuing, and there has to be a priority for which ones they will go for first.

That’s true in the striker hunt where today we are said to be after both Berbatov and Demba Ba, but other strikers such as Kevin Gamerio, Shane Long and even Daniel Sturridge are also on have also got Newcastle’s attention.

If Newcastle have 5 positions they are targeting, think of five columns with a priority order in each column.

And then Newcastle will go down each column and try to sign as high up the list as possible – starting at the top candidate – but only one player will be signed from each column.

Gameiro and Gervinho seem to be in the same column.

We would think Newcastle will sign two out-and-out strikers in the summer – but who those will turn out to be – we have no idea.

And Newcastle are expected to go in for another French winger – Charles N’Zogbia of Wigan – as their initial paltry bid of £5M was turned down.

So Newcastle seemingly have many different targets lined up at the moment – and the next step is to close one or two of the deals in process.

Comments welcome.

wtf not gervinho and gameiro why the hell not f**k n’zogbia get gameiro and gervinho

  • 7 Stuart // May 31, 2011 at 11:19 AM

I cant see us playing Gervinho up front as he’s a much better winger so theres no reason why we wouldnt be in for them both really.

I think we’ve got Gervinho in the bag, valencia wont be able to match our bid for Gameiro so unless another spanish team comes in for him we should have him aswell.

  • 8 GeordieToon89 // May 31, 2011 at 11:20 AM

a say get em both and get Barnetta aswel instead of Zogbia

  • 9 tweaked // May 31, 2011 at 11:20 AM

i would prefer gervinho and gameiro… nzog is a traiter and within halfway thru the season he’ll say I wanna move to a bigger club

  • 10 BonVoyageBenny // May 31, 2011 at 11:22 AM

I’d much prefer Gameiro and Gervinho than N’Zogbia and one of them.

  • 11 WWJBD // May 31, 2011 at 11:24 AM

Stuart the news going around is that we want to play Gervinho as a striker not a winger (I agree that its a dumb idea but we love dumb ideas in NUFC)

  • 12 CheickTiote // May 31, 2011 at 11:25 AM

Someone link me to Jose Enrique\s facebook page please.

  • 13 Nufc_mo // May 31, 2011 at 11:25 AM

Id much prefer we get linked with a rightback, then more news about Gervinho and gameiro.. if they come, they come… end off :/

  • 14 Bobtoon // May 31, 2011 at 11:26 AM

My eyes light up at the prospect of signing this lad, he is that good, but I wouldn’t want us to go down the road of having to beg anyone to play for us, like we always say, we only want players who want to play for NUFC and not just here for a pay packet a la Michael Owen

  • 15 nden85 // May 31, 2011 at 11:27 AM

at last i think we might just have a brilliant transfer window. where’s all those folk who were saying fat mike was going to pocket the cash?

  • 16 dickinsonjuniour // May 31, 2011 at 11:27 AM

bonvoyagebenny totally agree with you there and we should get gameiro and berbatov i think or gameiro and sturridge with a four midfield of benny cabaye tiote gervinho two frenchies on one side and the ivorian elites on the other and if not berbatov drogba the wolfpack of gervinho drogba tiote

  • 17 CHAPPA // May 31, 2011 at 11:28 AM

Kevin Gameiro is a class striker am hoping this lad ends up at newcastle..could easily wear the number 9 and become a loved player by fans

  • 18 jwheelie12 // May 31, 2011 at 11:29 AM

we want both apparently, Gervinho is a winger

  • 19 sammydolan // May 31, 2011 at 11:30 AM

I said fat mike would pocket cash…

BUT still waiting for some official unveiling…

  • 20 SWHITEY // May 31, 2011 at 11:31 AM

absolutely agree with tweaked. was only last season when wigan were strugglin and zog wanted off to birmingham. tbh, dont know much about both gam and gerv, but it strikes me if we need both a striker and winger these two would make sense so i question why we dont go for both. that aside still concerned neither have EPL experience and we are paying hefty money for either. wonder if we should pursue sturridge in addition, good young english player, dont even go there with berbatov. think pardew and ashley need to get real. lots of average players in the squad which need to go, we all know who they are so it will be interesting to see how transfers develop over the next couple of weeks

  • 21 Nufc_mo // May 31, 2011 at 11:31 AM

    @Dickinsonjuniour

    Drogba?!?!?!

Good sir, I place my palm on my face…Never gonna happen.

Its been good the past few days not having to listen to miserable tw@ts moaning on.

  • 23 Davies // May 31, 2011 at 11:32 AM

I’d still really like to see Sturridge come in. Gervinho’s a winger, so he shouldn’t be in the same category as Gameiro, even though he can play up front.

Those three would make me happy. I have VERY mixed feelings about Berbatov, but I wouldn’t grumble if he arrived.

  • 24 The Entertainers // May 31, 2011 at 11:36 AM

    Interesting development on Gervinho.

French press linking Lille with ASSE left winger Payet.
    Replacement for Gervinho ?

    Speculating granted, but interesting !

  • 25 bazzer // May 31, 2011 at 11:36 AM

Hasn’t Pardew already said that he’s going to play Ben Arfa off the front man next year? IMHO, he is going to be better than everyone that we have been linked to in that role, so makes sense that we prioritise that front man. I drool over them two, with Gervinho on the wing though.

  • 26 TBETTOON // May 31, 2011 at 11:38 AM

the club want gervinho, cabaye and gameiro all signed asap. All will be announced next wednesday 8th june. Statement of intent, if gameiro wont come, shane long and mevlut will be targetted. Berbatov and Ba are not wanted by nufc

  • 27 Brutooon // May 31, 2011 at 11:38 AM

    Our Target Strikers:
    Ganiero
    Ba
    Berbatov
Gervinho (although he is a winger)

    Ameobi WHO??????????

  • 28 Novocastrian // May 31, 2011 at 11:39 AM

I think Gervinho would be a better signing. He looks exciting on the ball, and has a decent record in terms of goals and assists. I’d safely put a decent bet on now that Gameiro will be the next Xisco/Luque.

  • 29 Novocastrian // May 31, 2011 at 11:41 AM

Yes, I agree with a previous comment that Sturridge would be a fantastic signing.

Massively off topic like, but say we lose our starting keeper and then our sub (either to injury or red card) during a match, who out of the regular 11 would stand in? Just debating it at work like….

  • 40 Stuart // May 31, 2011 at 11:48 AM

Im assuming seen as though we havent heard anything from craigcoozey that none of the players have actually been to Newcastle yet to discuss their transfers as he usually gets his information from a mate at a hotel the club uses.

  • 47 bazzer // May 31, 2011 at 11:51 AM

If I was Pardew prioritising the strikers, I would only have one question to answer “who can get me 20 goals a season, every season” because I think thats what we need to get us to top 10. For those who we have been linked to (just the strikers) , I would go for :

    Gameiro
    Sturridge
    Ba
    Hoillet
    Berbatov

  • 48 WWJBD // May 31, 2011 at 11:52 AM

  • 49 Jan Stavik // May 31, 2011 at 11:52 AM

Who the f… is Jalavic. We’re after proper players, not some Scottish pub league players.

Ba, Gamerio and Zogbia, that’s some exciting signings! Add a decent midfielder, and we’re one of the 10 teams that can challenge for the European spots next season.

  • 50 toonruz // May 31, 2011 at 11:53 AM

    PEDRO— VILLA— MESSI
    n well play
    ZOGGY–GERRY–BENNY

where we dont play a 1 out and out strikers but we play 3 good finishers and rotate the 3 around, that front 3 with thier movement, pace and skill wud make it impossible for defenders to mark

I am gutted that Scholes has reitred

  • 58 Rotonda heights // May 31, 2011 at 11:59 AM

I really hope we can Gervinho and Gameiro together. I know just one would be great, but I’m getting greedy now !!

If we really are looking to play football rather than hoof ball to a target man, then Gameiro in front of Ben Arfa and Gervinho and A.N.OTHER on the other wing would be fantastic.

If not Gameiro, Sturridge is the obvious other candidate if we are going to do our version of Barcelona.

  • 59 colwell // May 31, 2011 at 12:00 PM

I think we should try and get Ba on a free. He`s taken too the league well and has the height that If our targets come off we will need in games. The average height in our team will be about 4ft 2 lol.

Sturridge we haven`t been linked with him yet he`s in most peoples teams? He out scored the whole of Chelsea front line at the end of the season, WHY would they sell?

Guys, PLEASE stop believe these attention seekers on Twitter.

Cayabe has NOT signed yet – “verbal agreements” mean sh!t all.

Gervinho and Zog have not signed either. It’s complete nonsense. Cwarr claims that we’ve “just signed Gervinho” every few days.

You’re all setting yourselves up for falls. These guys cover all bases, so that when deals don’t happen they can say it fell through due to unforseen circumstances.

  • 62 Nufc_mo // May 31, 2011 at 12:04 PM

“would like to move to Newcastle” – Implies that he would LIKE (look up the definition of like if your having problems) to join Us. It doesnt mean he is going to.

I for one would LIKE to play for Newcastle.

“made the decision to join Newcastle,” – Implies that there is an agreement between both the clubs and the player that he WILL be coming to Newcastle and play for us Next season.

    There is a clear difference.

  • 93 geordiefinn // May 31, 2011 at 12:23 PM

I don’t want gameiro.. Newcastle is not his first choice, we should only target players whose first choice is Newcastle. Not sure about Gervinho, but right now Newcastle seems to be his 1st choice…I’d rather sign Sturridge or Erdinc (or even both) as a striker and then Gervinho on right wing.

  • 95 Magpietillidie22 // May 31, 2011 at 12:24 PM

    ToonDownSouth

No its not “exactly” what you said. You said the manager said cabaye would like to join Newcastle, like off the cuff comment.

    It wasnt.

He said Cabaye has chosen to join Newcastle. The choice is done. We met a get out clause which the manager also confirmed and agreed terms with him. Done deal unless we pull out.

The reason we are not announcing anything yet is based on two reasons.

    1. the deal cannot be officially confirmed until the correct period of transfers. Legal.

    2. The club does all its business behind closed doors. Even if that business becomes public, Mike Ashley will not allow comment on things until he gives the go ahead. We all know and moan about this lol. Its not news. Plus Id rather hear when its done, signed, sealed and legally dusted.

Read my posts. Is that not my exact point?

Also, you’re “legal” but is not actually true. As Geordietoon said, Vaughan has been announced already, just not registered. And last year, Barcelona announced the signing of David Villa very early on, whilst the season was ongoing.

  • 101 bills-son // May 31, 2011 at 12:27 PM

Angryman the Angry fan – the laughs are on you pal. I said nothing about spending loadsa dosh in the Jan window. Nothing at all.

My stance has always been that Ashley would spend the bulk of the AC £35M and spend it well.

You and the rest of Ashle hating bigots said he wouldn’t. And I’m goung to be proved right.

  • 106 colwell // May 31, 2011 at 12:29 PM

Height is deffo not a factor but on the other hand I wouldn`t even try to compare us to what Barca do lol.

Barcelona don`t have to play teams like Stoke,Wolves,Blackburn etc who play awful high ball football and win everything in the air and just make endless dangerous tackles.

Barce have Messi who is like 4 players in 1 anyway we don`t.

I don`t want a team of giants but a little height would help just to give us another option. Pretty football won`t work all the time. Arsenal for example.

  • 107 GeordieToon89 // May 31, 2011 at 12:31 PM

Angryman, toonbelmonter & GeordieToon, thank you for showing some intelligence on here, it appears to be lacking today.

I’ve been posting on here a long time now, and never got into an argument, so I wont now. I have a Uni exam in four hours, so I’m going to go eat and watch some tv ;)

All I’m trying to say, is anyone who has supported this club for more than a year should know that it’s very very risky to get your hopes up with this club. Especially over rumors with little known backing.

  • 112 Nufc_mo // May 31, 2011 at 12:33 PM

    @Angryman

I wouldnt know whats being said over twitter, only what i hear regurgitated here… Don’t really use twitter… only signed up the other day to keep up to date with the Barton situtation… and even then i havent logged on in a few days

    @Toondownsouth

i wasnt nit picking at anything. I was showing you that the quote did not prove your point as the context it is in suggest that the Cabaye deal has been done, whereas the term Like suggest that he only has aspirations? (cant think of another word atm) to join the club and no agreement has occured.

  • 118 colwell // May 31, 2011 at 12:36 PM

No problem mate, no argument, its a discussion board. I just think right now (since Ashley made his initial mistakes) the fans are split and he is our very own marmite.

People will back him or fight him without any thought on any and all subjects.

Trust me If he cocks up I dont stand behind him but I just think everything adds up at the moment. Not just these twitter sources, its everywhere in the media.

All i know is we will see come the new season for final opinions but right now I believe the interest in these players and the active approach shown by the club. But thats just me

  • 122 ashington-geordie // May 31, 2011 at 12:37 PM

    @Toonbelmonter

Today is the first ive heard of Vaughan being announced, and maybe i was slightly misinformed about the information regarding announcments

But here is your explanation from Magpietillidie22

“2. The club does all its business behind closed doors. Even if that business becomes public, Mike Ashley will not allow comment on things until he gives the go ahead. We all know and moan about this lol. Its not news. Plus Id rather hear when its done, signed, sealed and legally dusted.”

Did the club come out and confirm the signing of Abeid? To my knowledge they did not… but he is now a Magpie. Its exactly the same as Cabaye.

  • 128 09nufc09 // May 31, 2011 at 12:39 PM

You cant sign players from abroad until 6th june, you can sign players from pl championship ect from the end of the last game.
‘if the players we were being linked with on twitter were reliable then the press would of picked up on it’ from were im sitting we were being linked with gervinho, gameiro and nzog on twitter and who are we being linked with in the local press??
Cabaye will be announced on the 6th june along with anyone else we have signed from abroad, nzog deal can be done at anytime from the last game.

  • 141 ToonDownSouth // May 31, 2011 at 12:47 PM

mo, would you not like N’Zog? I know he was a bit of a kn0b, but he is premiership proven.

In the whole of Europes top five leagues, only Messi attempted more dribbles than him haha. Clearly they were far more effective, else Wigan wouldn’t have just stayed up!

Magpietillidie, I’m far from an Ashley hater as well, and I know that if we do get some decent deals in early, it’ll be partly down to his good business acumen.

Unfortunately I think sacking Hughton and selling Carroll (regardless of the back story) was probably the last straw for a lot of people.

    GeordieToon

lol come on man… thats not how it works for christ sake.

    Look heres a reality check.

Clubs work in different ways. Legally clubs cannot officially announce an international player until a transfer period (6th June) OR unless they are out of contract.

However some clubs, whether it is the one selling or the one buying may decide it would be good press to announce it before hand. Thats up to the club. But I think anyone who has been a NUFC fan since Ashley arrived knows the guy does not communicate well and definitely communicates on HIS terms at HIS choice of time….

    Now lets be sensible lol

French transfer window opens on 9th June so no transfers can be made official until then and only pre-agreements made
We are apparantly after both Gervhino and Gamiero, the former is more of a winger and not an out and out striker while the latter is a striker
We are not after BA whilst Berbatov is clearly paper talk, no way would Ashley buy a 30 year old for 7.5 million and 80k a week
    Shane Long a possibility

No point signing a proven player for 10mill then only selling him for 11mill a few seasons later…

Ashley is a proven Gambler and will take the risk of a 5mill unproven talent from abroad in hopes that in a few seasons his price will double, if not triple..

Whilst in the mean time we enjoy flair football.

isnt Gameiro an out and out striker?

  • 187 JackButler // May 31, 2011 at 1:12 PM

  • 191 Nufc_mo // May 31, 2011 at 1:14 PM

    @GeordieToon89

A foreign team release clause or a 15mill release clause… That should get Dalglish to start throwing money around :P

There are rumours though that Liverpool are all but ready to pull out… and I fear they may go for M’Bengue :(

  • 192 toonruz // May 31, 2011 at 1:14 PM

    Nappa
    well support barca

  • 193 Nappa // May 31, 2011 at 1:14 PM

f off im a geordie you cheeky twats

  • 194 Nufc_mo // May 31, 2011 at 1:16 PM

    @Nappa

Maybe because we are not a group of idiots who only support a club if they win?

Heck at the age of 6 i was smart enough to convert from being a Manc Fan to a Nufc Fan. I grew up watching the flair football under Bobby Robson and have never regretted my decision to support the Black and White.

What would disappoint me is if we played the same crap we played under Fat Sam.

  • 195 GeordieToon89 // May 31, 2011 at 1:16 PM

they can have M’Bengue is Enrique signs this new deal a dont mind we mayaswel sign Oscar Wendt on a free just for backup he aint the best but hes good enough for back up and never know might be more suited to this league

  • 196 toonbelmonter(barnetta4nufc) // May 31, 2011 at 1:16 PM

Stuart haha fair play then I dont tend to mock the afflicted

And anyone that did the smallest amount of research into comparing Sunderland to Newcastle in footballing terms would understand just how afflicted the mackems are….I dont mock them because I pity them too much it’d be like kicking a dog with only two legs

  • 199 GeordieToon89 // May 31, 2011 at 1:17 PM

  • 216 kingkev9 // May 31, 2011 at 5:19 PM

Don’t see what NAPPA has said that is so wrong!? What has Ashley done since he has been here to make people think he will spend all this money? As for £35million from Carroll, that is not his, he didn’t bring Carroll through the academy, he was there long before Ashley.

For all the Ashley lovers please add up the values of all of the players he has sold or bought……………..
