The Journal is reporting today that Newcastle have had a £10M offer accepted late last week for Kevin Gameiro.
Kevin Gameiro – top target of Newcastle
But we all know that Gameiro’s preference is Spain, but his club Lorient are more than anxious to do business with Newcastle, since they will get the £10M up front in cool cash.
The ability of Newcatsle to pay money up front in cash for all their transfer business this summer will be a huge positive for the club.
That’s one reason why they have quickly accepted Newcastle’s improved bid but now the club will need to persuade Kevin that Newcastle would be a good club for him.
His preference is to join a Spanish club and Valencia are in for him.
Seville and Paris-Saint Germain are also after the player, but they will not be able to pay the wages Newcastle will offer the player.
Kevin is still said to be open to moving to the Premier League, but let’s hope he’ll not just move to Newcastle for the extra money he can get, which has happened far too much in the past.
That’s one thing Newcastle have to be very wary about this summer, since the Newcastle team spirit remains of paramount importance.
And it seems that Newcastle will sign either Gameiro or Gervinho – but not both, but the Journal says Gameiro is Newcastle’s number one choice.
If they cannot persuade Gameiro to come to Tyneside, then they move for Gervinho and the fee again is expected to be around £10M.
That makes sense since Newcastle will not being in all the players they are currently pursuing, and there has to be a priority for which ones they will go for first.
That’s true in the striker hunt where today we are said to be after both Berbatov and Demba Ba, but other strikers such as Kevin Gamerio, Shane Long and even Daniel Sturridge are also on have also got Newcastle’s attention.
If Newcastle have 5 positions they are targeting, think of five columns with a priority order in each column.
And then Newcastle will go down each column and try to sign as high up the list as possible – starting at the top candidate – but only one player will be signed from each column.
Gameiro and Gervinho seem to be in the same column.
We would think Newcastle will sign two out-and-out strikers in the summer – but who those will turn out to be – we have no idea.
And Newcastle are expected to go in for another French winger – Charles N’Zogbia of Wigan – as their initial paltry bid of £5M was turned down.
So Newcastle seemingly have many different targets lined up at the moment – and the next step is to close one or two of the deals in process.
Comments welcome.

Comment #47If I was Pardew prioritising the strikers, I would only have one question to answer “who can get me 20 goals a season, every season” because I think thats what we need to get us to top 10. For those who we have been linked to (just the strikers) , I would go for :
Gameiro
Sturridge
Ba
Hoillet
Berbatov

Comment #49Who the f… is Jalavic. We’re after proper players, not some Scottish pub league players.
Ba, Gamerio and Zogbia, that’s some exciting signings! Add a decent midfielder, and we’re one of the 10 teams that can challenge for the European spots next season.

Comment #58I really hope we can Gervinho and Gameiro together. I know just one would be great, but I’m getting greedy now !!
If we really are looking to play football rather than hoof ball to a target man, then Gameiro in front of Ben Arfa and Gervinho and A.N.OTHER on the other wing would be fantastic.
If not Gameiro, Sturridge is the obvious other candidate if we are going to do our version of Barcelona.

Comment #59I think we should try and get Ba on a free. He`s taken too the league well and has the height that If our targets come off we will need in games. The average height in our team will be about 4ft 2 lol.
Sturridge we haven`t been linked with him yet he`s in most peoples teams? He out scored the whole of Chelsea front line at the end of the season, WHY would they sell?

Comment #61Guys, PLEASE stop believe these attention seekers on Twitter.
Cayabe has NOT signed yet – “verbal agreements” mean sh!t all.
Gervinho and Zog have not signed either. It’s complete nonsense. Cwarr claims that we’ve “just signed Gervinho” every few days.
You’re all setting yourselves up for falls. These guys cover all bases, so that when deals don’t happen they can say it fell through due to unforseen circumstances.

Surely Roman can tell a very talented player when he see`s one just can`t see him letting him go.
To me Sturridge would work better than Gamerio. He`s proven and at 6ft2 offers both pace in behind and heading ability. PERFECT!

Any sane man Can tell Sturridge is a talented player… However Abromavich is no Sane man.
Signing an out of Form Striker for 50million is not something a Sane person would do…
He offerred Cresp a house, a private jet and more Money to stay at Chelsea…
He is a rich billionaire who wants only the best for Chelsea… and his definition of (the best) is international Superstars..

What’s your point?
And I know Angryman, it’s ridiculous. Clearly a massive attention seeker.
The fact is that he’s told thousands of Geordies that we have signed Gervinho and Zog, and that is certainly not true. As if no press outlets would even get a sniff of it.
Though I’m just as uninclined to believe the Journal

height doesn’t matter. Look at barcelona I don’t think the ball went in the air once. Look at barca’s corners all taken short and work the ball and create space
