The Newcastle Journal is reporting today that either Kevin Gameiro of Lorient or Gervinho of Lille will sign for Newcastle soon.
Cheikh M’Bengue – will replace Enrique if Jose leaves
At least they are consistent in saying that only one of the two will be signed, so it remains to be seen if the club can persuade Kevin to join Newcastle with Kevin preferring to play his football in Spain.
Apparently Gameiro is first choice over Gervinho – according to the Journal.
Newcastle have already agreed a £10M deal with Lorient, which will be paid in cash, and with Gervinho saying he will announce which club he will join this week – push is coming to shove – and maybe we’ll know which player will join Newcastle by the end of this week.
Newcastle are also interested in Toulouse left-back Cheikh M’Bengue, and Newcastle recently made an improved £6M for the player.
With Enrique’s advisers supposedly meeting with Newcastle officials this week on a new contract, we will soon know what the deal is on Enrique, so to speak.
Jose’s soap opera has gone on far too long, and he needs to make a decision soon, and if he decides to move on it looks like Newcastle will quickly bring in the 22 year-old French U21 left back.
But it’s looking like Liverpool may not be able to offer Enrique as good a deal as Newcastle will – so that could make things even more interesting.
But we don’t think Jose will necessarily be a big miss if he leaves, because Cheikh looks a good player, and Newcastle also have young Shane Ferguson, who has shown he is very competent anywhere on the left side of the pitch.
Also French International and Lille midfielder, 25 year-old Yohan Cabaye, will complete his move to Newcastle when he returns from international duty next week.
Things are starting to move fairly nicely for Newcastle in this summer’s transfer market.
