We know Newcastle like to get a bargain – but when are they going to put in a decent bid for French International winger Charles N’Zogbia?
Charles N’Zogbia – second bid rejected
Newcastle got £6M plus Ryan Taylor for the 25 year-old 30 months ago, and if anything the lad has improved in his time at Wigan.
So Newcastle got £6M or £7M for him, depending how you price in Ryan Taylor, and the news today is that Newcastle have had a second bid for Charles turned down.
This time the bid was £6M, and it follows an initial bid late last week that was said to be £5M.
Wigan are said to want close to £10M for the Frenchman, and he may be worth close to that, and Charles could certainly provide both penetration and goal scoring ability down either the right wing or left wing at Newcastle.
Although he doesn’t like to play at the back, the Frenchman can also perform well at left back – when he has to – although his skill is better used up front.
Newcastle may be trying to get either N’Zogbia or a 20 year-old Canadian youngster we have been linked with recently – David Hoilett of Blackburn Rovers.
20 year-old David Hoilett Jr – of Blackburn Rovers
Just like Newcastle have done with Kevin Gameiro and Gervinho, they will go after both, but will only sign one of them – it’s now looking like Gervinho – Newcastle may be after either Charles N’Zogbia or David Hoilett and will take the one they can get the better deal for.
Of course N’Zogbia is much more of the finished product, but Hoilett has looked a young and classy player for Rovers this season, and the lad scored 6 goals in 28 appearances for Blackburn last season, when they just avoided relegation.
There’s some reports today that Hoilett may even want to leave Blackburn, but we have no idea if that’s just made up, to make it sound more interesting. 😀
Steve Kean hopes to visit Hoilett and his family in Ontario in a couple of weeks, and Newcastle presumably will also want to talk to the player, if they get permission from Rovers.
We still think N’Zogbia would be a decent buy for Newcastle, but it may be that if the Magpies can’t get a good deal, they may give up on Charles, as they did today on French left-back Cheikh M’Bengue
Newcastle had a £5M offer turned down by his French club Toulouse in mid-April, and have decided not to raise that offer, despite reports late last week in France that they had gone in with an improved £6M offer.
Well – what do you think – N’Zogbia or Hoilett – or perhaps even both?
