Jose Enrique’s future is still uncertain on Tyneside, but if the Spanish U21 International moves on this summer, then Newcastle will not be pursuing Cheikh M’Bengue – according to the Evening Chronicle today.
Cheikh M’Bengue – Newcastle will not increase £5M bid
The 22 year-old French U21 International looks a good player and Newcastle put in a £5M bid in mid-April, and although there were reports coming out of France that Newcastle increased that bid to £6M – the Chronicle is reporting that isn’t true.
It seems Newcastle have decided not to increase their initial offer, and will now look at other options should Enrique leave the club.
The Newcastle Journal this morning said that Newcastle would not be pursuing Senegal international left-back Boukary Drame, who we understand is a free agent this summer, since he signed a four year contract at Sochaux in 2007.
And he would appear to be better value than M’Bengue – so why would Newcastle not be interested in the 8 times capped Senegalese?
Newcastle fans would be happy enough if Jose Enrique agrees to stay on Tyneside, and maybe the reasonably good start in the transfer market may persuade the Spaniard that Newcastle have more ambition than it looked like last January.
That’s when the club were willing to sell their local young star – Andy Carroll – and that upset a number of Newcastle players, not to mention the fans, and probably upset Jose Enrique and Joey Barton the most.
Alan Pardew has always insisted he’ll do everything he can to keep Jose at the club, but Alan doesn’t have much influence with the contracts, as we all witnessed last week, when Newcastle said they would not offer Joey Barton a new contract.
That was a day after Alan has said he wanted Joey Barton to stay at Newcastle, so that was bad timing or good timiong, sin ce he prbabaly new the news would leak out the cloub were not offering him a new deal.
It seems to us that Mike Ashley and Derek LLambias are the two that make all the decisions on players and contracts at Newcastle.
It would still be good news and a nice surprise, if Jose agrees to stay at Newcastle – we hope he does.
Comments welcome.

Comment #81Toonb well 8 is pretty much what we paid isn’t it? I mean when you take into account that we got Ryan Taylor (whoop whoop thanks Kinnear) for 2mil so that’s what I mean we shouldn’t be paying any more than that it’s all tough negotiating with Ashley tho and he knows how to do it very well. You don’t get as rich as he is without that ruthless streak.
And what the hell are you on about new coach Pardew hasn’t even had a chance and by the noises he’s making I’m quite happy to give him that chance don’t be so bloody daft

Comment #88HAHAHA!!! Gorgonzola, much as I hate to say this, Keegan is one of the last people I’d want to see back at the club. That moment, my friend, has passed, as we’ve already seen once.
Do you not remember how the downward spiral of our relegation season kicked off???
GG – Well predicted.

Comment #90Wes Brown has just been told he can leave Manchester United. Ferguson is doing a overhaul of some sort in Manchester. Wes Brown will be a good addition to our club. Even though he is old, he can compete with Simpson on the right and teach him a thing or 2 when defending. Could be available for about 2.5mil. We should go all out for Brown.

Comment #91gorgonzola, putting up that link of the Newcastle-Barcelona game doesn’t really strengthen your argument. Chris wouldn’t have got us back to those heady days.

Comment #92I dunno, I guess I am just romanced by the good old days… The flesh ripping attack we had the hold no quarter approach…
I find we are missing that passion at least in the game not out of the fans… For example the last game pissing a three goal lead I was like bamboozled seeing them not really in the game. I dunno dont want to step on anybodies toes but why would King Kev be a bad idea?

Because he already had his chance here, he came back but couldn’t bring our club forward.
So far Pardew has done nothing wrong. I will judge his after this transfer window when he get HIS own team and i will see how we perform next season.

Comment #94can anybody read this? its from Le Figaro.

Comment #95well cause he kinda got forced out within a blink of an eye…and he had people like Denise Wise and Ashley dictate….probably the same fate awaiting Pardew.

Comment #96What about Gervinho? As the club northerner expected after his superb season (league and cup), he must now cope with time demands. Gervinho wants to go to Newcastle, while the departures of Adil Rami (Valencia) and Yohan Cabaye (Newcastle) were minuted. At the request meets the policy that wishes to implement the LOSC. Does he become the future reference of the championship of France, in view of the stadium? What are its goals in the Champions League? “We are obliged to maintain our position and to honor our championship, ” forward Rudy Garcia, still aware that it will be hard to beat this season. The early arrival of Benoit Pedretti, the probable signing of Ronny Rodelin Nantais, extensions of frames (Hazard, Mavuba, Landreau, Debuchy, Beria …) at least show a willingness to continue to reign on the national exchequer. But how will tackle the major Lille Europe? Hazard would keep a good thing.

The most important thing you should know from that articule is saying ”Gervinho wants to join Newcastle.” The rest doesn’t concern us.
But no quotes or proof to back it up whatsoever. Make what you wish out of it.

Comment #103gorgonzola, for me it’s simply a case of him spitting out his dummy. I was devastated when he walked out. I thought it was his right after the way he was treated. But then I thought if he hadn’t walked but stayed and fought from within. He would have achieved more than he could from without. How long would it have taken Keegan to prove that Wise had no idea about players? 2-3 months?

Why not Wes Brown? Ferguson has asked him to move on. And he could be available cheap. He’s definately worth having on the bench rather than Perch. Atleast Brown can aid Simpson’s development into a more all rounded quality right back. Simpson has what it takes, but he just needs to improve his defending side of the game and Brown can do that well.
He’s worth going for a bid. About 2mil for Wes Brown.

Wes Brown is Shit – only reason he has any profile is cos he has played for the mancs.
We could sign more up coming and better defenders than him and i assume he will be wanting a fair old weekly wage as well.
The lad has won everything (potentially bringing into question hunger and desire issues) look at all ex man utd players that leave they do very little at there new clubs – we have had a couple already thanks but no thanks
