It seems that Arsenal are moving in to try to sign Newcastle target Kevin Gameiro.
Kevin Gameiro – Arsenal in pole position now?
That makes some sense for Arsenal, because Kevin is a good striker, and Arsenal need somebody other than Robin van Persie, to put the ball in the net next season.
And he’s French of course, which you have to be to sign for Arsene Wenger – don’t you? 😀
But it’s looking more and more like Kevin Gameiro will not be arriving on Tyneside, as he prefers to play his football in Spain and also wants to play in Europe next season.
Arsenal could quickly be in in pole position if they match Newcastle’s bid of £10M, which has already been accepted by his French club Lorient.
The news yesterday was that Valencia were interested in the player, but bid only £6M, and surely Lorient will want some club to match Newcastle’s fee for their top striker, or at least close to it.
You cannot say Newcastle have not splashed some money around in this transfer window so far this summer, but have only secured 25 year-old skilled French midfielder Yohan Cabaye so far, and he should be signing for Newcastle next week.
The local Newcastle papers are saying Newcastle will try to get Gameiro or Gervinho, but not both.
We think Gervinho must now be the more likely acquisition, and we’re just hoping he will choose Newcastle next week, following the International games this weekend.
Of course the Ivory Coast International winger has also said he wants to join a club competing in Europe next season.
