It was bound to happen, and another reason why Sir Alex Ferguson will now very likely ban his players from using Twitter.
Michael Owen – he still sometimes puts the Red Devils shirt on – apparently
Michael Owen has made some rather stupid and inflammatory comments on his twitter account, and one of them was that winning the Premier League was one of his greatest accomplishments.
That from a fringe player who only reached the 10 appearances level to get a medal – thanks to Alex Ferguson bringing him on a few times for a few minutes in the last games of the season, including at St. James Park, so Owen could reach that target.
And he started how many Premier League games last season – that’s right – one to be exact.
Michael Owen has come under increasing criticism in the last few days, for signing a new 12 month contract at United, when he hardly ever plays for the side, and that’s probably why he has so much time on his hands to count his money and be on Twitter.
But he has also made it clear he prefers to be on the bench for a side like Manchester United, than starting very game for a mediocre side – what a poor attitude that is.
Michael has made Newcastle fans furious with his latest hit on the club via Twitter. hen he said:
“Prefer playing less often in a top team than every game in a poor team. Been there and didn’t enjoy it.”
Since he’s played at Liverpool, Real Madrid, Newcastle United and Manchester United, that was a clear shot at the Newcastle club, and our site has had fans protesting that rather cheap shot. against a club that paid £16M for him and gave him £133K/week.
He cost Newcastle over £43M for the four years he was on Tyneside – with his transfer fee and wages – and he comes back with a cheap shot like that?
And last night Newcastle Managing Director Derek Llambias couldn’t take it any more, and blasted back at the former Liverpool star, who no longer is good enough to make the England squad:
“I’m very disappointed. Under Kevin Keegan’s management he was offered a one-year extension at £140K a week which he did not take. He was already on £133K. His time here cost £40-odd million, about £1.3M per goal.”
Maybe that was why Owen was soundly booed, when he was brought on against Newcastle late in the game at St. James’ Park on 19th April, so he could make those 10 appearances and get his medal.
He was booed soundly by Geordie fans, because he became the picture boy of Newcastle’s relegation season – he simply couldn’t care less and couldn’t even make the starting team – and he was the captain!
Newcastle had the 6th highest wage bill in the Premier League that season – and we still went down – because we found out most of the highly paid stars couldn’t give a dam when push came to shove.
Since those “stars” have been unloaded, Newcastle have made a rather startling come back and won the Championship in 2010, with a massive 102 points, and could have finished in 9th position in the PL last season, if the lads hadn’t conceded three goals in the last 30 minutes of the season to throw two points away against West Brom.
It just wasn’t to be.
Former Newcastle United Chairman Freddy Shepherd, who paid around £16M for the player from Real Madrid in August of 2005, blasted Michael Owen last night:
“We might have been a poor team but we made him a rich man. He spent more time ferrying between Cheshire and Tyneside in his £3.5M helicopter.”
We know Owen must have a lot of idle time on his hands during a season – but surely Alex Ferguson will now stop him from making these childish comments – Michael may be resigned to just counting his money – he’s said to be worth £40M.
Shouldn’t he be thanking Newcastle for that?
A little advice to Michael Owen – shut up and grow up – please.
Comments welcome.

Comment #2He need to shut his gob he’s getting too big for his boots sounds arrogant and if he really cared about our club at the time I think he should give back some of his millions to the club as he only played 79 games for us in 4year thats an average of 20 games a season that’s not good enough Michael and he’s gone backwards since ……

Comment #9I have been reading this blog for a number of years and very seldom make any comment in fact only when i feel extremely p…ed off with something, how you have got the nerve to make any snide little pathetic comments about nufc is not only beyond me but any decent citizen in this country, your the most overrated excuse for a footballer there ever was, is and will be to come, you had a face like a smacked arse when you played for us,you really looked hopeless, you didnt put an ounce of effort in as far as im concerned, daylight robbery at its utmost, but we will get the last laugh as you will go down in history as a bench warmer that no club really wanted and one of the most unprofessional greedy footballers not only nufc but the world has ever seen, if you were anything of a man you should apologize immediately, you vile excuse of a human.

His pay as you play deal probably has a clause in it so that if he is “fit to play” he gets paid.

Comment #22Freaking pr1ck, when he wanted out of real, nobody wanted to give him that opportunity..except us, when we got relegated, he couldn’t wait a day or two to jump on his heli and get out to plan some marketing spam for other clubs to sign him. Comment #26Owen’s been a free loader since leaving Liverpool. NUFC got nothing for their money basically. He is another good example of what is wrong with football. When finished playing, Seb B. at FIFA could probably use someone like him.

anyways
I reckon Aly Cissokho would be a good replacement for Enrique…. Plays for Lyon and debuted for the france national team last year…
Described as a “sprightly left-back with good speed and stamina”
Might be a bit costly though… signed a 5 year contract back in 2009 for a fee of 15million Euro’s from Porto…

Comment #30I can’t believe I used to defend this guy during pub ‘debates’. Time to eat my words again, I do hope the little turd doesn’t hurt himself picking up his inflated ego. If he ends up on the pitch at SJP next season in NUFC – Manyoo fixture there will be a riot. I do hope Sir Alex has the good sense to leave him back at their place.
