What’s Going On With Newcastle’s Kevin Nolan?

Worrying news today that Newcastle captain Kevin Nolan may be considering his future at Newcastle United.

Kevin Nolan – delay in contract negotiations?

The news coming through is that the Tyneside club have so far refused to open talks again on a new deal.

We should stress that this could be just a complete false alarm, but the Mirror is reporting today that sources close to Kevin think the Newcastle captain is being treated unfairly.

But a few weeks back we were told his new contract was almost ready to be signed, and Alan Pardew said there was just one or two details to be ironed out.

Kevin will not have been helped by the news last weekend that Joey Barton would not be offered a new deal to stay on Tyneside, although Kevin still has a full two years left on his existing contract, whereas Joey’s runs out next summer.

We have to hope this is all just paper talk, and one thing Newcastle must maintain when the new players come in over the summer, is their tremendous team spirit.

Kevin helped create that team spirit two years ago when the club were on its knees,  after being relegated from the English Premier League.

Kevin is hoping to get a new deal for four years that will potentially keep him at Newcastle until 2015, when he will be 32.

We hope this is just paper talk – and wouldn’t it be good news if both Nolan and Barton do get new contracts to stay at the club – but we’ll not even mention Jose Enrique – that saga has gone on far too long.

We hope that Alan Pardew will say something on this situation tomorrow, since if Newcastle lose Kevin Nolan, it  would be insane.

Comments welcome.

Blame the club. If Nolan and Barton leaves the club, I hope NUFC will lose all the tops players and relegate back to the Championship. The club never learn from its mistakes.

We are not going to give contract to our Captain and Vice Captain who have contributed to keeping our club in the premier league with good leadership.

    Well done Ashley.

ochytoon ….. it wasn’t funny when people first started doing it and it isn’t now. Cockend.
Nolan has still got 2 years left on his contract so there is no hurry to get him extended

Its OK as long as the replacments are in place (and better of course) prior to them leaving.

Whilst Nolan has played well since he came his best days are behind him – although he could turn out to be another Gary Speed !!

Asbo on the other hand has a few good games and should not be courted – especially if he follows his stated intention of sitting out the remainder of his contract and walking free next summer

hope it is paper talk! However, from reading some previous posts, that is what some posters on here want…. everyone wants new signings like gervinho and cabaye in the squad and ben arfa when he’s back but by doing that they rip the core of the squad out in favour of untried players (exception of ben arfa)

Dont get me wrong Nolan and Barton may not be the most exciting, skillful and pacey players everyone wants but they get the job done.

ochytoon, one of the great thing about living in the free world is your right to say what you like (free speech). Unfortunately, this also protects peoples right to talk a load of balls.
