Worrying news today that Newcastle captain Kevin Nolan may be considering his future at Newcastle United.
Kevin Nolan – delay in contract negotiations?
The news coming through is that the Tyneside club have so far refused to open talks again on a new deal.
We should stress that this could be just a complete false alarm, but the Mirror is reporting today that sources close to Kevin think the Newcastle captain is being treated unfairly.
But a few weeks back we were told his new contract was almost ready to be signed, and Alan Pardew said there was just one or two details to be ironed out.
Kevin will not have been helped by the news last weekend that Joey Barton would not be offered a new deal to stay on Tyneside, although Kevin still has a full two years left on his existing contract, whereas Joey’s runs out next summer.
We have to hope this is all just paper talk, and one thing Newcastle must maintain when the new players come in over the summer, is their tremendous team spirit.
Kevin helped create that team spirit two years ago when the club were on its knees, after being relegated from the English Premier League.
Kevin is hoping to get a new deal for four years that will potentially keep him at Newcastle until 2015, when he will be 32.
We hope this is just paper talk – and wouldn’t it be good news if both Nolan and Barton do get new contracts to stay at the club – but we’ll not even mention Jose Enrique – that saga has gone on far too long.
We hope that Alan Pardew will say something on this situation tomorrow, since if Newcastle lose Kevin Nolan, it would be insane.
