23-year-old Newcastle goalkeeper Tim Krul will always remember his full debut for the Dutch side last Saturday, in a creditable 0-0 draw in Brazil.
Tim Krul – in action on Saturday night in Brazil
To keep a clean sheet against one of the best attacking International sides in the world is no mean feat, and Krul looked accomplished throughout the game and made one or two stunning saves.
Tim made great saves from Brazilian stars Robinho and Neymar, and it was in front of 48,000 fans in Goiana, and Tim frustrated the Brazilians, as witnessed by the home side being booed off the field at the end of the game.
Obviously a good job done by the losing World Cup finalists, Holland.
To say Krul did his first team chances no harm at Newcastle with such a brilliant display is an understatement.
And in our poll on who should be number one goalkeeper at Newcastle next season Tim is leading with 47%, followed by Fraser Forster on 24% and current number one, 36 year-old Steve Harper, on 21% with 8% not sure.
Tim may get another chance on Wednesday night, when the Dutch take on Uruguay in Montevideo, the team they defeated in last year’s World Cup semi-final.
Number one goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg and Michel Vorm are both out injured, and Dutch coach Van Marwijk may decide to give one of the other two goalkeepers in the squad – Cillessen ( NEC) or Jelle ten Rouwelaar (NAC), a start against Uruguay.
A delighted Krul has this to say after his debut:
“This is like a dream come true for me. Making your debut like this gives a fantastic feeling,”
“It was an amazing evening and I am very happy. It went really well, although I admit that I had some luck as well when Erik Pieters cleared a ball off the goal-line.”
“Keeping a clean sheet against Brazil is quite something.”
Van Marwijk usually only picks two goalkeepers in his Ditch squad, so Tim will now be hoping he can edge out Vorm when Holland selects their future squads.
Tim will have done himself no harm at all on Saturday, with what was a tremendous International debut by the Newcastle goalkeeper, and he is still improving of course.

Looks a good team,
Can,t see Nolan or Jonas on there though. Have they been sold in your cunning plan?
Also, i,m still not so sure about insomnia, though would maybe be willing to take him back!
Ranger has also been binned according to you!

If we had the attacking players aaronjd suggested to do think Nolan and Jonas would deserve a place in the team?
I have to say, if that was our lineup next season Nolan and Jonas would have to be on the bench.

Comment #46I think Nolans influence is important, but more in the dressing room. Really can’t see room for him with benny back and cabaye bought. I think
N’zog will return, and id rather see him
On the left than jonas. Think most would agree. Be good to have some real quality on the bench for a change. A fresh pair of legs in the form of jonas coming on at the 70 min point could cause havoc to some tired defences in my opinion! Same with Nolan, when we’re trailing by a goal, bringing Nolan on last half hour could spur us on greatly. Also Nolan isn’t getting any younger, the last 30 mins might suit him more.

Comment #48I agree with what your saying Stuart.
Its just difficult to see what team we are going to have come the start of the new season.
There is so much bull around at the moment about prospective comings and goings.
There are also a number of our youth players who are supposed to be good enouth to step-up to the first team!
We all need to be patient and wait and see! These are exiting times, are they not?

Comment #49NEWEXPATMAGPIE – “The thread was about Krul and not about other prospective signings lads eh”
Agree – let’s not turn it into a thread about all the other (possible) comings and goings.
Also – it’s one thing to speculate on our full strength team for next season and find you don’t have room for some important players, but remember – on average, how many players did we have out injured?
Must have been close to half a team.
