23-year-old Newcastle goalkeeper Tim Krul will always remember his full debut for the Dutch side last Saturday, in a creditable 0-0 draw in Brazil.
Tim Krul – in action on Saturday night in Brazil
To keep a clean sheet against one of the best attacking International sides in the world is no mean feat, and Krul looked accomplished throughout the game and made one or two stunning saves.
Tim made great saves from Brazilian stars Robinho and Neymar, and it was in front of 48,000 fans in Goiana, and Tim frustrated the Brazilians, as witnessed by the home side being booed off the field at the end of the game.
Obviously a good job done by the losing World Cup finalists, Holland.
To say Krul did his first team chances no harm at Newcastle with such a brilliant display is an understatement.
And in our poll on who should be number one goalkeeper at Newcastle next season Tim is leading with 47%, followed by Fraser Forster on 24% and current number one, 36 year-old Steve Harper, on 21% with 8% not sure.
Tim may get another chance on Wednesday night, when the Dutch take on Uruguay in Montevideo, the team they defeated in last year’s World Cup semi-final.
Number one goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg and Michel Vorm are both out injured, and Dutch coach Van Marwijk may decide to give one of the other two goalkeepers in the squad – Cillessen ( NEC) or Jelle ten Rouwelaar (NAC), a start against Uruguay.
A delighted Krul has this to say after his debut:
“This is like a dream come true for me. Making your debut like this gives a fantastic feeling,”
“It was an amazing evening and I am very happy. It went really well, although I admit that I had some luck as well when Erik Pieters cleared a ball off the goal-line.”
“Keeping a clean sheet against Brazil is quite something.”
Van Marwijk usually only picks two goalkeepers in his Ditch squad, so Tim will now be hoping he can edge out Vorm when Holland selects their future squads.
Tim will have done himself no harm at all on Saturday, with what was a tremendous International debut by the Newcastle goalkeeper, and he is still improving of course.

Comment #3He did his chances no harm no.
Is he better and more consistant than Harps? Im not sure.
Is he better than Foster? Im not sure either because he player in a ‘lower’ league last season.
Goal keeper selection is impacted by the players infront of them, we seem to fall to pieces when Tiote is not in the team.

Comment #7He’s going to be a top class ‘keeper, although now he’s in the running for an international place, he’s going to be a little more assertive in trying to claim a firstteam spot. Just hope we can hang onto him.

Comment #9Unconfirmed news: Apparently a Lancashire regional paper is saying that Bolton will lose out if Chelsea accept 12m bid for Sturridge from NUFC.
Just read this on Nufcfans on twitter. I repeat this is UNCONFIRMED. Nice if it’s true though!

Comment #10Is Neil Taylor not going to be a back up for Enrique (should he stay) we’ve been absolutely desperate for cover for years and by all accounts this lad is pretty decent so for £1 million. I wouldn’t say no so long as obviously he isn’t the replacement because that would unleash the Hulk in me!!

You ever considered that we’ve convinced Enrique to stay and Taylor is cover.
I say that because the same day we dropped out of the running for M’Burger from france was the day Enrique was supposed to be being offered his new contract.

Comment #12More bullshit journalism was shown to be just that;
Swansea City agreed a £3.5m fee with Watford for striker Danny Graham. BBC.
Amazingly, he did not come to NUFC as claimed by Sky Sports, and this even proved AP denial was correct.

Comment #16Which street was that toon tom mate I just walked down Northumberland Street and heard nothing so I want to find your street it sounds more interesting!!! Ha ha good work by the club if that is true I hope Enrique does stay he’s key to Jonas and Collo staying in my opinion and like I say Taylor is supposed to be highly rated and is only 22 so it would make excellent sense to sign him and use him as back up. Looks like we may finally see some sensible transfers to cover needed areas!

Taylor is a top top defender. Just because he’s cheap and you haven’t heard of him, does not mean the contrary.
archeomag,
To be fair, all Sky said is that we were interested wasn’t it? There is no proof that that wasn’t the case.
On topic, Krul isn’t in the running for first choice for Holland. They left out 2/3 goalkeepers with the intention of giving youngsters some experience. He’s not a stupid lad, he will know that no matter what happens, he’ll be our 1st choice for the 2012/2013 season.
Forster isn’t as great as people assume. Talk to Celtic fans, he’s not as great as lots of people on here make out.

Comment #18If this Jose story is true and he has signed a new deal, I think we must be trying for a European spot next season, It is possibly a clause in a few of our new players contracts too, If we don’t get a Euro spot this coming season or next then a release clause activates and the players can talk to other teams, A release minimum fee will probably also be in place. No proof of any of this but it would probably help us attract the players who want Euro football. Ashley could be going for broke these next two seasons. Who knows.

Comment #19Milzzy Rascal – hahaha a dont really post on here either mate but thought would post that dunno if anyone just seen that on sky sports about Zog and Taylor but told ya lol they will only sell Zog for 9m to a top 4 club but 12m+ to a rival club Wigan are a joke like lol cant do that a dont think his value should stay at 9m for everyone they just gunna be greedy cunts about this lol but like a said on another article N’Zogbia if he wants to leave he will just stick a request in.
If we go sign Gervinho lads do you reckon he will play as a forward or a winger cause for some reason I can see him playing as a lone striker with Ben Arfa one side and someone another any thoughts lads?

Comment #25toonfan76 – yer that min fee release we all hearing about a think will be true so if we dont get a Euro spot then he can talk to people cause Pardew said he wnats top 10 fin this season but deep down a think he wants Europe and getting all these players linked with us and maybe signing like Gervinho and Cabaye doesnt send a message to me saying top 10 it says a wont Europe then build on that cause a think Pardew thinking if can get these players in who says we cant get Europe but that might be only me thou.

Comment #27Runaway, I know it’s annoying. I have as little faith in Ashley as you.
But full backs are generally the least important area of the team. They’re always on the lowest wages – Jose is the 2nd highest paid in the PL!
Hopefully it would be as cover, but I wouldn’t be too upset if he was our choice. We need to keep some of our English speaking players! Aha

I’m pretty certain Benny will get the 10 shirt – surely routledge is on his way out?
As for new signings, I think that depends on what happens with Joey. I really hope Pardew has the balls to say – Look, I am not dropping Joey from the team.
I’m not sure if we’ll get a number 9. It has to be earned. Though whether Pards understands that I’m not sure. Although Hughton did, and look what happened to his prized #9.

Comment #35Krul is a top keeper!
Not only that, he could develop to become the No 1 keeper in the Dutch National side!
The thread was about Krul and not about other prospective signings lads eh!
Happy Birthday Thump! Hope you get want you want like?
With Krul doing so well at International Level, how long is it going to be before another club comes sniffing around!
We need to put a realistic price on him coz if the Fat Ash gets a high enough offer then you just know that Krul will be on his way out! Sold!

Comment #36Happy birthday, Thump. Hope MA gets you something nice (though I wouldn’t hold my breath!).
Regarding the article, I think Krul is more in Pardew’s thinking than Forster at the moment. Pretty sure FF will be playing on loan at another club next season; hopefully one of the promoted teams, so we can have proper look at him.
Anyone got anything interesting to share today?

Comment #40Haha. I love how on this blog as soon as a player has any kind of success people suddenly start talking about them being sold!
Fat Ash hasnt made this club a selling club, and if the transfer rumours are to be believed we’re after a higher class of player than we have been since he took over. I think he’s just been getting us financially sound enough to make a proper push for europe.
