The news today out of Newcastle is the club is hoping to get some decision this week, from their left-back Jose Enrique, on what he wants to do.
Jose Enrique – saga could end later this week – good
Ever since Andy Carroll was sold in January, Jose has been linked with a move away from Newcastle, and the team most likely to sign him is said to be Liverpool, where he could join up again with the 22 year-old Gateshead striker.
The player was again linked with a potential £8M move to Liverpool just over the weekend, but with Newcastle offering the player a terrific five year deal only recently it’s debatable whether he will get better personal terms on Merseyside.
Jose said he would only speak to Newcastle about a new contract when they were safe, and then that was changed to the end of the season.
But the Spanish I21 International now owes Newcastle an answer, and if he wants to seek pastures anew, then so be it.
He’s been a terrific player for Newcastle in his four years at the club, since he was signed by big Sam Allardyce for £6.2M from Villareal in August of 2007.
But if he now wants to leave Newcastle, the club needs to know that, so they can then plan for the future.
That will not stop Newcastle fans being very disappointed if Jose does leave the club this summer, and of course if he should decide to stay – he’ll be a hero on Tyneside.
