Newcastle Could Lose Both Nolan And Barton This Summer

More surprising news today from Newcastle is that captain Kevin Nolan has rejected a new deal at Newcastle United.

Kevin Nolan – Newcastle must keep their captain

So we wonder what exactly is going on with some players at Newcastle as a week ago Joey Barton wasn’t even offered a new deal at Newcastle, and now Kevin has turned his deal down.

So we suppose now Newcastle will need to decide whether they will increase their offer.

Newcastle have had a terrific team spirit in the side these last two years, and that’s been due to the two current leaders on Tyneside – both Liverpudlians as it turns out – Kevin Nolan and Joey Barton.

It’s all very well bringing in some top players this summer, but if Newcastle mess up and lose both Barton and Nolan, then what happens to our great team spirit?

We are more than a little concerned that Newcastle may not be playing fair with the two players, who did so much to ensure Newcastle had an excellent first season back in the Premier League.

And both lads just love the club and the area – so where is the problem – for heaven’s sake.

Answers in the comments below please – because I just don’t understand what’s going on.

Comments very welcome.

It would be a bad news, but I can’t blame the board for protecting their money. I hope they do stay for one more season to make sure a smooth transition for the club tho

I think the main problem with Nolan is that while he is a very good player and a top captain, he is not mobile enough for Pardew’s new team.

NOBODY KNOWS ANYTHING BECAUSE NEITHER NOLAN NOR THE CLUB HAVE SAID OWT.

Jesus H. Christ. Stop getting yourselves (you included Ed) in such a tizzy over non-stories based on no facts, substance or source.

Something still stinks with them 2 arseholes in charge, them 2 lads are the core of the team, the graft, the passion and are also a massive reason we are back where we belong. That commitment should have been rewarded but was it Fu@k, they don’t even want more money, no massive deals or owt just what they deserve. And them 2 ball bags in charge are taking the piss, it doesn’t matter who we get in, players like Joey and Kev need to be there. Joey should still be a starter and Kev used to push on or hold up the last half hour of a game when needed.

I’ve posted the same on another article, but I think that Ashley and Lambias (and possibly even Pardew), are worried about the power that these two have in the dressing room.
When Pardew became manager he had to ‘win’ them over. I don’t know if this is a good thing or a bad thing, but I think it certainly plays on the managements mind that two (or three if you include smith) are the ones ‘running’ the team.

    @Deeeeeeeano

How do you know they don’t want massive deals?

Maybe they’ve seen the support they’ve received from the fans and have used it as leverage against the board?

Joey seems distinctly calm given his usual disposition… you’d have expected him to have kicked up more of a fuss. Not reject rumours to his boyhood club and say he will stay next season…

Can we all just agree, that we don’t have a clue what’s going on… and in this case… there’s no door to lay any blame at… not yet anyway…

nolan will be 30 next year and still got a year left of his co ntract..hes probably on 50k a year and wont take a decrease after that….
personal its fair a player over 30 isnt paid more than 30k….if he has a cracking season next year..he will be offered more.

Also… you’re saying we should further reward already heavily rewarded players… FOR DOING THEIR JOBS.

I think they’ve seen the dip in form of Mike Williamson which coincided with his 5 year contract. As soon as he secured his future, his foot came off the gas.

They’ll be worried that Barton & Nolan will become the new Owen, Duff, Carr et al. They want them to have the fear – the fear that their future is NOT secure unless they continue to do their jobs.

tbh look at every1 starting line ups they rite on here,, no1 has them init n at the end of the day its because with gameiro,, gervinho,, cabaye,, tiote n benny we’ll be playing fast skillful football n in all honesty wen was the last time nolan turned a defender inside out lol,, a dnt wanna see them leave tho they shud stay but IF newcastle bring in more younger english gritty players AND born leaders then unfortunately there wil be no room for them,, but to me nolan and barton have been invaluable n as a newcastle fan all never forget how they helped get us up and steadied the ship,, if it wernt for these 2 we wudnt be able to bring gervinho n cabaye in so,, thanks lads

cor some people will do anything to bash ashley…
i’ve come on here after matches and there’s people slating nolan wanting him to go.
as for barton he’s been bad mouthing ashley to everyone who will listen and after everything ashley’s done for him, i can’t blame him withdrawing the contract offer to him.
i’d rather just wait until the end of the window see who we’ve brought in and then decide whether to keep them on..considering nolan is hardly the most mobile he probably won’t fit into pardew’s new fluid team. so what’s the point giving him a bumper 5yr deal to sit on the bench?

I’d like to see them both stay, but if they don’t sign new contracts I don’t think it will be the end of the world (as long as we bring in new players).
    1. As was mentioned before, they were both in the squad when we went down (where was the incredible team spirit then? Did they tell MO what a lazy money grabber he was back then?)
    2. Neither of them are spring chickens, so sooner or later we’ll lose them anyways… will that bring about the end Newcastle United?
No one or two players, for however good they are on and/or off the pitch are bigger than the club.

On one hand we have Alan Smith who is on high wages with a year to run and almost impossible to unload, but fans want rid.

On the other hand the same fans are saying give Barton and Nolan long contracts on high wages.

If you want a well run club you have to play hardball with the agents. There the ones manipulating the media which in turn manipulates the fans.

The agents are playing us off against the club to get a bigger slice of what their clients are offered.
