It looks like we have finally got a real interview with Gervinho’s agent, and thanks to our readers for posting the link in the comments.
Gervinho – should decide which club later this week
One of Arsenal’s top football blogs – Arseblog News – has posted an interview with Gervinho’s agent Seb Boisseau today.
This is what he told Arseblog News:
“It is difficult for me to discuss the situation because it is confidential, but it is true that many clubs in England have contacted us concerning the availability of Gervinho.”
“But we have not only spoken to clubs in England, but also Italy, Germany, Spain and France. The player wants to leave Lille and his priority is a move to England.”
“However, it is difficult for me to speak about one club for the player. He wants to leave and has contacts with England, and he is determined to play in the Premier League next season.”
Wonder if one of his contacts in England is a certain Cheick Tiote?
When Arsenal was heavily linked with Gervinho yesterday, we did some looking back to 2009, and Arsenal were interested in the player before he finally moved to Lille two years ago from Le Mans, and at that time Gervinho was quoted as saying it would be a dream move for him to move to Arsenal.
And a report back around that time said the North London club had been long-time admirers of Gervinho, and Arsenal had even tabled an offer whilst he was playing in Belgium in the 2006/07 season for Beveren, whom he left for Le Mans in 2007.
Arseblog News asked if indeed it would be a dream move for his client to move to Arsenal, and this is what Seb Boisseau said:
“I do not know,” “For the moment he wants to think about Arsenal, Manchester City, and other clubs.”
” It is difficult for me to comment, as you have good information and sometimes wrong information, but it is not good for me to comment, or for the clubs, or for Lille. “
“For the moment it is confidential, and we will wait until Gervinho makes an agreement with one club.” “I think a decision will be made regarding his future by the end of the week.”
We assume Newcastle are linked in with the “other clubs”, but it’s obvious the agent cannot say too much at the moment.
Gervinho will announce which club he is joining before the end of the week, since the Ivory Coast African Cup of Nations qualifiers are now over, and that’s what the agent says above – in any case.
Not sure Newcastle can compete with Arsenal and Manchester City, if those clubs are serious, which looks to be the case if you believe the Daily Mail report this morning.

Comment #8I think he has also said that he wants to move to a club where he will be playing first team football. He’ll probably get that and Champs League football at Arsenal and is the right age and value for Wenger to go for.
Reckon we’ve lost out on this one…

Comment #9There is no chance that a footballer like Gervinho who has stated that he wants to play in the Champions League will come to Newcastle unless none of the ‘big’ clubs buy him.
Sorry but we need to lower our expectations as to the type of player we will attract.

Comment #12Posted that earlier the Jose link with Barcelona, now its on Talksport plus others, i hope its not true although if they pay 15M atleast we wont see him week in week out at Liverpool scum or Man United Scum or EPL.
IF arsenal come in for him or even MAN CITY, i heard they are after him and contact there is Yaya and Kolo Toure, or Arsenal its Emmanuel Eboue.
and us its Tiote we all have a player he would know, and if he chooses between those 3 clubs it would be Arsenal then City then Us.

Comment #17Fair play to Enrique if he was to go to Barcelona.
If he did, I would be really proud that we played a huge huge role in getting him there.
Although, to be fair, his passing is cack.

Comment #21Ashley will offer Simpson a long term contract because he’s 24, even though he’s not very good but won’t offer one to Barton and Nolan, both 28, who are absolutely vital to our team and amongst our best players.

The problem is that this blog is very popular now. Look at the viewing stats, they’re incredible.
But that means we get more illiterate kids, more people looking for a keyboard war, and more Sunderland fans bored because their team will forever be in our shadow.
But I know what you mean. When I first joined this blog there were far less trouble makers, and debating was a lot more fun!

Comment #28The only good news by NUFC is that of the new pitch that is being prepared for next season. Let’s just hope the likes of Gervinho, Gameiro, Cabaye, and many others are playing on it!

None have been right about anything at all! But when they’re wrong about stuff – which happens constantly – no one notices!

Comment #31Ah well – back to the puncture outfit! Who can blame Jose going to Barcelona if they come in for him? On this one we
cannot compete. Question is will the club get a good deal or just Ashley? Same for Gervinho if Arsenal and Man City go in with bids. Have Barca got a spare LB good enough for us in part-exchange? Today has been a bad joke.

Comment #33Just have to wait & see where he goes – Think he would be mad to join City unless it’s for the money as he won’t start every game there. Gooners & ourselves can offer that ofcourse. We do have the edge when it comes to payment to Lille as we will pay cash straight away, not sure if other clubs can? I have a feeling Arsenal might win out due to Champs league footy but hope Tiote can use his influence to sway his mate to join us!

Comment #36Why would Gervinho’s agent give an exclusive interview to one of Arsenal’s Blog sites and no-one else?!
1) It could be genuine
2) It could be a clever way of everyone interested to go to their site and push their ratings
3) Maybe i’m just doubting its credibility to retain that small hope of seeing Gervinho in a toon shirt!
Ps @coutso… agreed!

Comment #38Very few prem league forwards can score 20+ goals in 38 league games. Gameiro might get close but doubt Gervinho would get near. Suggest we keep our cash for a couple of defenders and give the number 9 shirt to Steven Taylor. Bet he’d get at least 20 goals per season. Supermac was an average full back converted to a great centre forward. Let history be repeated.
