There is news today linking Newcastle with Rangers’ Algerian defender Madjid Bougherra.
Madjid Bougherra – wants to play in Premier League
We would be surprised if Newcastle are interested in the center-back, who turns 29 in October, and still has one year left on his contract at Rangers.
This is what Bougherra said today:
“My focus is still on the Premier League. I played there for six months with Charlton and want to go back as six months isn’t a long time.” “I don’t want any trouble between me and the club. I want any move to be easy.”
The 6’3″ center-back played at Sheffield Wednesday and Charlton Athletic, before moving to Rangers three years ago, and he has 47 caps for Algeria.
Arsene Wenger, who is desperate for some solid central defenders this summer, is also said to be interested in the player, who played extremely well for Algeria in last year’s FIFA World Cup.
Bougherra has played around 80 times for the Scottish Champions, but it looks he has his mind set on moving south of the border, and playing in the best league in the world.
You can hardly blame him for that, and this is not the first time the player has been linked with Newcastle.
But we’d be very surprised if the Magpies are now interested in this player, with three top center-backs – Steven Taylor, Mike Williamson and Fabricio Coloccini at the club.
If Newcastle do bring in another center-back this summer, we would expect it to be someone a lot younger.
What do you think?
