Barcelona To Bid £12M For Newcastle’s Jose Enrique?

As we reported yesterday,  European club Champions Barcelona are interested in Newcastle left back Jose Enrique.

Jose Enrique – huge opportunity if Barcelona after him

Jose has become the surprise target of Barcelona after negotiations for 21 year-old Sporting Gijon’s Spanish U21 International Jose Angel broke down.

The news is that the European champions want to sign three or four new players this summer, and Jose Enrique is now a potential target, after playing so well for Newcastle in the Premier League last season.

Liverpool, Manchester United, AC Milan and Bayern Munich have all been reported to be interested in Jose in the past, with Liverpool the favorites.

But it looks like Liverpool will make a £8M take-it-or-leave-it offer for the player this week, and Newcastle will most  likely leave it.

There is news today that Liverpool are weighing up a move for left backs Nacho Montreal, 25, of Osasuna who has 4 caps for Spain, or Lyon’s Aly Cissokho, 23, who has one full French cap, and each player is valued at around £9M. We suppose that’s in case Newcastle turn down their offer for Jose.

If Barcelona make a bid, the news coming from Spain today. is they could try to wrap up a deal with Newcastle by offering £12M for the Spaniard, and Newcastle would take that in a NY minute, for a player who has only one year left on his contract.

Newcastle have already bid £1M for Swansea’s 22 year-old vastly  improved left-back Neil Taylor, and it’s likely they could complete that deal when the player returns from his vacation in Spain next week.

It seems like Jose Enrique will want to leave Newcastle in the summer,  and the Tyneside club will be looking to maximize the fee they get for a player who has been on Tyneside for four seasons,  and given Newcastle great service at left-back over that period.

We don’t think many people would begrudge Jose getting a huge opportunity back in his home country, with a chance to play  for the best club side in the world right now – a team that simply outclassed Manchester United in the second half of the European Champions League Final, 11 days ago.

I’d rather he goes there than Liverpool.

    Latest Gervinho quotes;

“My mind is made up, I am leaving,” Gervinho told skysports.com.

Gervinho has just one-year left on his current deal, which means Lille are likely to cash in on him this summer.

“I have made my mind up. I will soon meet the club and let them know, but they understand my feelings that I want to prove myself in a top league in Europe.”

“My agents are moving things as I want, people know where my future lies, it is in England.”

Would be good money seeing as he’s in last year of his contract and an ideal move for him to further his career. If he was to go I’d be delighted for him and we get enough to get in another 1/2 good lbs

So Gervinho has narrowed it town for England and a club. Fingers firmly crossed but if reports are true and cesc is off i reckon he’ll go to arsenal as nasri will go inside and gervinho on the left. Hopefully not

Hope it is to us, there is alot of talk of him going to City. Not to sure, think it could be Agent hyping for bigger transfer. But when neither city or Arsenal have made an official bid (i think). Gervinho has said well nobody else has, the Toon it is.

    Well thats what im hoping.

My concern with Gervinho is African Cup of Nations.

Would we not loose him during the season?

I dont see why he would go to City, apart from a pay cheque and to sit on the bench next to Shay.

If he goes to City, then he is not the type of player we want anyway.

I think, realistically it is between us and Arsenal.

BUT, Arsenal may hinge on the Fabrigas deal going through.

Gervinho is not expensive enough for City, they only pay 20+. I’m guessing Gunners, but hoping for the Toon.

Gamerio is probably signing for Valencia, unfortunately.

The 12M supposedly about to be offered by Barca for Jose nicely matches the amount Wigan want for N’Zogbia. Our fat shopkeeper will love that. Assuming he is actually willing to pay Zog’s wages of course. Why let Smith go on a free? Couldn’t we at least get 1M for him as he has a year to go on his contract? Surely a Championship team would pay that. Don’t know that Neil Taylor will be as capable as Jose so we downgrade at LB. Starting to not believe all the early hype about spending the Carroll money. As NUFC.com say Del boy and Ashley are bringing in their own plan and since they know nothing at all about football it is the supporters who will lose as usual.

I would not mind Enrique – N’Zogbia swap to be fair.

Letting Smith go for nowt saves 1 yrs wages without having to wait to see if someone is daft enough to offer a Mil for him.

Agreed, GG. He’s on daft wages like.

Admittedly as much as I’ve slagged him off in the past, I’ll be a bit sad seeing him go. He mightn’t be the most technically adapt, fastest or most powerful player but he’s stuck by us and gave 100% – fair play to the lad.

I guess so GG but still would like to bring in a bit from Smith considering what we have wasted in wages to him over the last few years. Still best to get him off the books. Wonder what we will do about Xisco? Shocking waste of money. He must laugh every time he sees his pay packet. Does the poison dwarf have an email address? We should flood him with thank yous for signing Xisco and all the other wonderful things he did for the club.
