It seems there are at least four clubs chasing former Newcastle winger Charles N”Zogbia.
Chales N’Zogbia – would love to return to Newcastle
But the £12M fee placed on him by his club Wigan yesterday, for clubs not in the Champions League seems high. Apparently £9M is being asked if a club is in the Champions League which to us seems daft, but of course it could be another made up story.
In our poll on the home page 52% think that is too high and he wouldn’t be worth that fee – with 41% thinking it would be a good deal and the other 7% undecided.
Liverpool, Aston Villa and Sunderland join Newcatsle in the chase for the French International winger, and apparently Charles is also thinking of seeing out his contract at Wigan and becoming a free agent next summer, but we don’t think that will happen.
Wigan will want to cash in on him this summer, and around £10M is too much for the small club to pass up.
Charles turned 25 on May 28th, and is currently on vacation across here in the US, and maybe he’ll back over next month, as a new player for Newcastle, on their three match US tour.
The news is that Newcastle are still firmly in the chase, and maybe even the favorites to sign the 25 year-old.
It seems like Charles enjoyed his time at Newcatsle and retains a strong personal attraction to both the club and the area
It seems that N’Zogbia’s advisers are even keen on him moving back to Newcastle, with a source close to the player saying this to the Newcastle Journal:
“Charles never really wanted to leave. It was then manager Joe Kinnear he fell out with, not Newcastle.”
“He has kept in touch with several of his former team-mates and told them he would love to go back.”
“And while he has never worked for Alan Pardew, he knows his No 2 John Carver very well.”
“He thoroughly enjoyed his time there, loves the city and would jump at the chance of pulling on the shirt again.”
“Of course, Charles will consider all his options but there’s a strong emotional pull about returning to Newcastle.”
Indeed John Carver may be able to persuade the lad to return to Newcastle, because John was also Assistant Manager to Bobby Robson when Charles was signed back in the summer of 2004 from Le Havre as an 18 year-old.
£12M to us seems a little high, but there’s also a difference between what Wigan want for the player and what they’ll get.
It seems he’ll probably leave for around £10M or less, and since we sold him to Wigan for £6M plus Ryan Taylor 30 months ago, that’s not a bad price to pay for a very good winger who can score goals.
