It seems that Ivory Coast star Gervinho has now decided which club he will join, and it’s a club in the English Premier League.
Gervinho – will join English club
This is what Gervinho told Sky Sports today:
“My mind is made up, I am leaving,” “I have made my mind up. I will soon meet the club and let them know.”
“But they understand my feelings that I want to prove myself in a top league in Europe.”
“My agents are moving things as I want, people know where my future lies, it is in England.”
Clubs interested in the player have included Arsenal, Liverpool and Newcastle United, although Manchester City were also credited with an interest, although that report is now looking like it may have no foundation.
Newcastle were favored to be in with a decent chance of getting the player only last weekend, but since then Arsenal have made a strong move for the player, who has said he wants European Champions League football next season, and if that is a strong requirement, Newcastle will not get him.
The truth is that Arsenal now have to be the favorites to sign the player, and they have been interested in him since way back in 2007, when he was just 20, and still playing for the Royal Sporting Club of Beveren (Beveren for short), in the Belgium second division.
But there’s still a chance, albeit a slight chance, that he could arrive on Tyneside, and join his Ivory Coast team-mate Cheick Tiote.
French International midfielder Yohan Cabaye is due on Tyneside on Friday, and it would be nice if a certain Ivory Coast winger/striker was also introduced as a new signing for Newcastle at that time. 😀
You never know, and I now believe in miracles, because I watched the second half of the Newcastle – Arsenal game in February.
Newcastle now need a second miracle to capture Gervinho – and it seems it’s against Arsenal – it’s de ja vu all over again!
Howay The Lads!!
