Newcastle have received a £3M offer from relegated West Ham, for their captain Kevin Nolan.
Kevin Nolan – West Ham bid turned down
Newcastle have turned down the offer, and we’re not sure Kevin would be too delighted to be back playing in the Championship next season, and the London club probably couldn’t afford Kevin’s wages either.
So it would hardly be good for Kevin to take a drop down in both class and wages to join West Ham now, would it?
Newcastle signed Kevin for £4M from Bolton Wanderers in January of 2009, but the club was then relegated five months later.
The very fact that West Ham have bid for the player will alert some Premier League clubs, like Bolton, and we just cannot believe Newcastle will sell their captain – what’s going on here?
The Liverpudlian has just turned down an extension to his current deal at Newcastle, because he wanted a three year extension but Newcastle offered only a two year extension.
Kevin still has two years left on his current contract, so the sky’s not falling in – not yet anyway.
Surely something can be worked out between the club and the player, so we’re not going to see bids this summer for Kevin Nolan as well as for Joey Barton, because that’s exactly what will happen.
New West Ham manager Sam Allardyce wants his former Bolton captain to help the London side get back into the Premier League. at their very first attempt next season.
But we wonder what manager Alan Pardew thinks of all this – he’s identified Kevin Nolan as a key player for Newcastle in the years ahead – and the club cannot even agree a new deal for him?
And we’ll not even mention Joey Barton and Jose Enrique, who are two more top players at Newcastle who could leave soon, although Joey has said he will see out the one year left on his current deal.
Newcastle must retain their best players and both Kevin and Joey are great for the team spirit at the club too, and theyll be needed to help the new players that come in over the summer.
If Newcastle cannot tie down their best players this summer, then Newcastle fans will not be very happy, whoever the club manages to bring in over the summer.

Yeah, that’s what I thought. It’s reported in the papers that that it was Fat Ally’s first signing though.
chances are its just lazy journos because he used to be manager, he will probably get linked with a bunch of blackburn players as well, same as pardew did with southampton players. papers will be playing the precentages saying he will sign an ex player so they can reprint the article saying we told you so back on such and such a day. guess they couldnt be arsed to actually look at who was actually at the club when he was here though lol

£3m for a player who is going to be a fringe player next year, hopefully!
The fact that we have released Alan Smith a year early means that we probably had to pay him off. We have to stop being sentimental, players aren’t sentimental, they might saythey love the club etc etc but when the chance to better themselves comes they take it. We have to think the same. Sell Nolan by a younger more mobile attacking midfielder.

Comment #62Still don’t believe it T…iote. If he goes I’ll be surprised if not amazed – he still has the ability to knock in the goals at this level and as we’ve all seen, we’re a noticeably better team with Nolan in the midfield.
If they’ve bid recently, then chances are it hasn’t been accepted or rejected. Calm down lads, early doors.

Comment #63Nolan still has two years left on his contract, so it’s not as if he’s gonna walk away in Jan for nothing, the club showed with Steven Taylor that they will not be held to ransom over players contracts, irrespective of who they are unlike under the reign of Sheppard.
It’s now a waiting game until Nolan signs, because I can’t see a bigger club coming in for him and at the same time I can’t see him wanting to take a backward step.

Comment #69@boom boom: No but I’m sure you can appreciate the humour in a player being spun around. Plus, it’s a legit tackle – unlike De Jong, Parker got the ball.

Comment #70i really don’t understand the Barton and Nolan situation. Yes, a 3 year deal would offer greater security, but they’re not 33/34 and surely a two year deal on the same wages means they have scope to negotiate one big final payday before their careers end?
I understand where the club is coming from as we’ve been burnt in the past and it makes no sense to pay over the odds for something with no potential resale value.
For me the key thing is that they’re toon players next year as we will need to give cabaye etc time to settle in. If they do, as hoped, there will be no place for Barton Smith Nolan in the first team anyway and let’s face it, if we’re winning games we’ll not miss ’em

Cabaye Tiote in Centre midfield, Ben Arfa off the striker. Gosling on the bench. Nolan will be a sub next season, get 3m for him and buy younger, cheaper and more mobile player.

Comment #78It was Bullards knee I was thinking of.
“It was Parker who was involved in the challenge that left Bullard’s knee out of kilter with the rest of his leg. It was not Parker’s fault, but the sight so traumatised him it was not until the second half that he was back to anything like normal”.
Had to clear that, otherwise it would have driven me mad all day.
