John Carver Excited About Pre-Season

Alan Pardew returns to Newcastle tomorrow, and his staff will also be arriving back soon, to get ready for pre-season training on July 4th.

Gervinho – a Newcastle target this summer

Assistant manager John Carver seems to be looking forward to this pre-season,  and he says everybody else at the club is too.

It’s great to have John back at his home town club, because it gives us all a link back to the Bobby Robson days,  when Newcastle were a top four side in the Premier League and took part in the European Champions League.

Bobby was also terrific as the Newcastle manager of course, and was respected throughout the football world, and he often said that managing Newcastle was his dream job.

This is what John told the Newcastle press corps today:

“I’ve never known a bunch of players and a backroom team that are so keen to get back to work.”“The one thing that stuck out during the last few weeks of training was that the lads were already talking about the new season.”

“Everybody was looking forward to a well-earned break after the season just gone – everybody from the manager to the players and all of the backroom staff here and the people behind the scenes.”

“But the hunger and enthusiasm here is second to none, and everybody is geared up for the challenge that lies in wait.” “When you have that desire to succeed, coming into train becomes a pleasure for the players and everybody is looking forward to that.”

“We have our tour of America coming up as well, and trips like that are excellent when it comes to players bonding.”

“As a coaching team it is not ideal to come in mid-season like we did at the turn of the year but, with a pre-season of hard work ahead, we can look to kick on and build on last year.”

It certainly seems to be an exciting time for Newcastle fans this summer, because if the news is to be believed,  Newcastle have already made several good offers for some very good players.

And it seems at least one signing will be announced tomorrow, when Yohan Cabaye will sign on for the Magpies, and this lad could become a great buy at only €5M.

It would also be terrific if there was a surprise, and an Ivory Coast winger was also unveiled on Tyneside tomorrow.

Here’s hoping. 😀

Imagine how much Pardew is going to talk when he comes back.

Apparently we’re willing to let Leon Best go for £3m. We’re letting all our players go and won’t have a squad at this rate.

ToonDownSouth – To be honest mate, i miss him talking lol, at least we knew where we stood with dealings and rumours! On topic, i think he could be excited because he knows we are bringing decent talent in to the club.

And to be fair, would you rather he said “We’re not aiming for wins. I’d just like a couple of draws against West Brom and Birmingham”.

Tell me you guys aren’t believing that a local Coventry paper knows how much we would sell Best for.

Haha. Best would not be for sale at under 10m surely – his wages are ridiculously low, and his goal/game ratio for us has been excellent.

Barry Vension – I take it you don’t like strikers who score 6 goals in 11 games in the premiership… darned scoring strikers,,, they make my blood boil! Let’s flutter 15mil on someone who many or may not adapt to this league, and flog off our known quantities to the first buyer.

Can I just ask – why is everyone so excited about Gervinho,,, not saying he aint all that, but what are you all going on?

Bit like Arfa – one spectacular goal and he’s been talked about like the best player in our history,,, he was also withdrawn against wolves for not being able to make an impression… just saying.

Free Giveaways – There is nothing concrete on that it’s just paper talk. Do you really believe everything you read on the papers??

Don’t jump the gun on crap and wait and see at the end of August what the club has done and then we’ll all know where this club is heading.

All this paper talk of players leaving, theyre under contract, barton is still seen by many as being a problem case and Nolan still has two years left on his contract….and being brutally honest…neither of them will get a better club than us!!

Best is our number 1 striker!

He saw a chance and he took it when AC left.

We are weak in the striker area.

Why would we be selling him?

boater- having watched best first hand i can tell you that is overall play is very poor. Bad runs, not able to hold it up and bring people into play. He needs to have people put it on a plate for him and then he can finish it. As a sub he’s ok but we need better all round players if we hope to improve.

Everyone is so impatient. Of course we would like to see the players we have been linked with sign yesterday but these are mega millions deals and aren’t going to be completed just because fans are getting impatient. All of the ruckus is being drummed up by the media and not Pardew or the club. The players themselves will not be in great hurry either until they are absolutely sure that the deal offered is the right one for them. Difficult it is to understand, NUFC is not the most important thing in the minds of players on the market just now. I think we’ll end up getting some of our targets and turned down by others. If we are unsuccessful then I’m pretty sure it won’t be for the want of trying by Pardew and Ashley. Ashley in particular, and for all his faults, didn’t get to where he is today by trying to close out deals inappropriately.

I wouldn’t take under 10 for Best, as he is our best striker.

6 in 11 games did someone say? I’d be willing to place a bet that if we bought Gameiro or Gervinho or Messi, they wouldn’t do that!

Granted, three against West Ham is like throwing stones at the disabled

agree WWJBD, best showed he could put a shift in when he got a regular game and had a good scoring record at that time, so would be the one i would want to keep hold of the most. he does seem to have been injured alot since he signed though dont knolw if it always the same injury or just bad luck with different things? also werent birmingham linked with shola around the time carrol left? would prefer that personally providing we get a couple of strikers in otherwise we’ll have to keep what we have, theres a thought 😉

    Jose Enrique,
    Alan Smith,
    Joey Barton,
    Kevin Nolan.
