Newcastle Reported Interest In Ghana International Midfielder

News today that Newcastle United may be interested in Getafe midfielder Derek Boateng.

Derek Boaeing – Ghana International midfielder

However, the 6′ tall defensive midfielder turned 28 last month,  and doesn’t fit into the general profile of players Newcastle are likely to sign this summer – young players who can still improve on Tyneside.

Boateng was signed in the summer of 2009 by Getafe for €1M, from German club FC Köln, and he could probably be signed for around that amount in the summer.

Boateng started his career back in 1993 with the Liberty Professional based in his home town Accra, Ghana, and he moved to Greek club Kalamata in 1999.

Derek has played 22 times for Ghana and started out as a striker or winger, but as he has become older, he has dropped back and now plays in central midfield.

This is a report in the Sun and we have no idea if its true.

But if Newcastle are willing to let captain Kevin Nolan leave in the summer, you have to think that Newcastle have some central midfield players already lined up – in addition to Frenchman Yohan Cabaye, who will sign for the club tomorrow.

The Sun is reporting that Bolton Wanderers are also keen on the 28-year-old, who apparently wants to leave who is believed to wanting to leave the Madrid based club.

Apparently Wigan Athletic, Sunderland and Stoke City. are interested in the player, but their report says Newcastle are the favorites to sign the player.

We shall see.

What do you think?

Had to get one first in.

Looks like were trying for a few midfielders, which is our strongest department. I think the push should be for strikers, Nolan (midfield) top scorer last season just reinforces that fact. Nice to see we are being linked with players so early though.

To be fair, Fabregas would cost the whole 40!

I can’t see there being any substance behind the Enrique/Barcelona talk.

TalkSPORT have the reporting quality of a cabbage, coupled with the fact that Enrique’s biggest weakness is his passing, and constantly giving away the ball!

ED – congratulations, you win! The prize for most re-hashed NUFC articles from newsnow.co.uk.

You also get a special prize for most typos, and misinformation; of course this happens when you are pushing out so many hackneyed and hurried articles in the hope of generating more banner revenue.

Spell check and a quick once over would be awesome for those readers who aren’t text-speak, illiterate gangsta rap types.

Exactly that’s why I said “rubbish”. This story is not true.

On the topic of signings just read a tweet from crazykirk77 Sam Kirk:

“Newcastle 2 sign cabaye and gervinho 2moro. Ameobi and 7million 4N’zogbia and enrique to barca for 14 mill! Very good source @nufcfans”

haha don’t have a clue who he is, and certainly not saying its true but hey after all the negativity today, here’s to hoping.

It’s hard to find an article on any transfer rumor, without the line

“Liverpool & Newcastle United are also rumored to be interested”.

Even goalkeepers, which I think it’s safe to say we’re sorted for!

    Barras,

Getting rid of Ameobi, in a deal to sign a quality, fast, skillful attacking player.

Well that’s just too good to possibly be true. Newcastle just don’t do business that would make me that happy. Ever.

If this is the sort of players we’re looking at then we might as well give Smith a new longer contract.

This player is NOOO good, he plays as a DM and I’ve seen him various times playing for Ghana and he plays a similar role as Cheick but he isn’t as skilled.

And then he woke up again and realised that was a dream. So really it was dream within a dream. Pahahah sorry I won’t go all ‘Inception’ on your ass.

On the topic though if Enrique does go to whoever then surely that on top of the Carroll sale is enough for Ashley to not sell Barton or Nolan, at least for this year. I really hope I’m right.

The Chronicle are saying there is no truth in this story and we’re not interested.

I hope Martinez doesn’t join Villa because he’ll definitely try to sign N’Zogbia. And apparently Sunderland think they can sign him now with all the money they have.

I don’t know why we’re waiting when he’s obviously keen to join us. We should just offer £12m now.

I Think that rumour is fabricated don’t get me wrong but I think we could have a slight chance of getting N’Zogbia for £9m + Ameobi or Lovenkrands.

There both Wigan sort of players, and if they sell Rodellega (think I mis-spelt that) then that improves our chances.

Good point, the best deals are usually the ones you don’t hear about until they are done.

Tomorrow should be a more informative day with pardew back and cabaye in town (hopefully).

I know what you mean. Looks like Martinez is going to Villa, which I would say pretty much guarantees Zog will go there.

We know that Lerner is willing to splash the cash, and seeing as Young will go to United for about 20m – and Zog is much much better! – I can’t see any other outcome.
