We heard yesterday that Swansea’s Neil Taylor was keen to talk to Newcastle, after the Tyneside club lodged a £1M bid for the 22 year-old Welsh left-back earlier this week.
Neil Taylor – next one through the door?
Wrexham manager Dean Saunders is in no doubt that a move to Newcastle United would greatly benefit the Swansea defender, and of course Wrexham will also profit from any deal for the player.
Wrexham sold Taylor to Swansea last summer for a fee of £150K plus 10% of any future profit if Swansea do sell him.
This is what Dean Sanders, a former first team coach at Newcastle, said today:
“It’s a great move for him because Newcastle – I’ve been there obviously as assistant manager – is a brilliant club,”
“Swansea is a great club as well, but hopefully things turn out right for Neil. He’s got a great attitude and he’s always worked hard.”
“It was great move for him to go to Swansea,” “He’ll find it a lot easier to play that type of football than in the Conference where he’s getting balls banged on top of him all the time.”
“In the Football League they play a bit more football and they play even more football in the Premiership.”
“If he goes for £1m we’ve got a 10% sell on so that will be a good deal all round for everybody.”
Dean Saunders moved to Newcastle United in September of 2004, and became first-team coach under Graeme Souness, but left in February of 2006, when Souness was sacked and replaced by Glenn Roeder.
Swansea will be sorry to lose their player but the news id there is a £1M release clause in the Welshman’s contract, which Newcastle are taking advantage of.
Taylor started his career at Manchester City as a boy, and moved to Wrexham in 2007, and he played 85 times with 3 goals for the Welsh side.
He moved to Swansea only last summer, and was one of the most improved players in the Championship last season, as he made 32 appearances for the side, after starting the season on the bench at Swansea.
But if Neil does sign on next week, when he returns from his vacation in Spain, that will probably mean that Jose Enrique will be leaving.
We don’t know why Newcastle would sign Taylor if Jose is staying, when the club already have young Shane Ferguson as back-up to Jose.
But it will be another good deal for Newcastle, and maybe he will be brought in even if Jose stays at the club – to increase competition for places on Tyneside.
Sounds good to us.

Comment #7Ferguson could be a LB in a few years when he’s bulked up abit, too lightweight atm. More suited to LW until hes abit older.

Comment #8Hes like a cross between Enrique and Gavin Henson.
I hope that today, when Cabaye is announced, we also announce that Enrique has signed a new deal.

Comment #10This guy for backup would be perfect. Young and energetic.
Shane Ferguson is LM, he shouldnt be left back. Too weak to handle the physical side of attack.

Comment #17sorry stuart :p i’m not his biggest fan anyways, he’s strong and gets the ball back but his crossings horrible, and the number of times he’s won it back and then lost it in the second half of last season i’ve lost count, plus those long balls over the top which have gone out of play down the left wing… i think i’ve received more of them than the strikers

Comment #24If you look around the premiership all teams outside the top four are looking to loose players to the top teams, that’s how it works, you have the money, you get the players. Top players want the money and the glory of the champs league etc, that’s why they play football. Realistically we were never in the hunt for Gamerio or his mate, they said from day one they wanted European football, it was just kept alive by journo’s and deluded fans who think everybody should sign for the toon cos its the best team in the world. The reality is we have just been promoted and need to stabilize the club, keep our best players and add to the squad. Lets face it we could not hang on to a 3-0 lead last game of the season, we need to strengthen as its obvious to me the team is not good enough at the moment. Thankfully we will have HBA and Gosling to pick from next term, we could have used the, last season no doubt. Also Cabaye is to sign today so its a better start than in the last few years.

Yes M8, its been that way ever since I started supporting the club back in the 60’s. That’s why we have to pay over the odds for players both great and average. Notice too that we also have in the past gone for players with a less than perfect past but were great players, but perhaps attitudes/baggage etc. Only a few came good really Ginola and Tino spring to mind but I am sure some would argue against that, but that’s football its open to interpretation.
