Newcastle’s Best Players On Offer This Summer

Newcastle let it be known yesterday, for whatever reason, that they are willing to sell their captain Kevin Nolan to the first club who comes up with £6M.

Kevin Nolan – Newcastle will sell their captain – why?

We don’t understand Mike Ashley, and why he would want to sell one of his best players this summer, especially since Kevin is the captain and has scored 30 goals for Newcastle over these last two seasons.

But that’s the enigma that owns Newcastle United at he moment, and to us it’s yet another weird decision by Londoner Mike Ashley.

But you cannot blame other clubs for now being interested in Nolan, and West Ham have already bid £3M for Kevin, but he would hardly want to take a step down to the Championship next season, even if it meant joining up again with big Sam Allardyce.

Fulham have registered an interest in the player today, as new manager Martin Jol has around £20M to spend in the transfer market this summer, and £6M for Kevin would be a great deal for the London club.

But whether they could match Nolan’s wages could be a problem.

The news is in The Sun, so it could be a made up story – the thinking being that Martin Jol has £20M to spend and Kevin Nolan is available – so why not put the story out – it could even be true.

If Nolan is moving out, then we have to think Newcastle have some other top central midfielders lined up in the summer.

Alan Pardew has already said he will play Ben Arfa as the withdrawn striker next season, and central midfielder Yohan Cabaye should be signed today – so where does the captain play next season is a good question.

But that’s not the way to look at it, because one thing Alan Pardew has to do this summer is to build competition for places at Newcastle, and surely not lose his best players – who are oprven performaers in the Premier League.

But that seems to be what will likely happen,  with Kevin Nolan and Jose Enrique likely to move out, and Joey Barton too – if Newcastle can persuade Barton to move on, just one year before his contract runs out on Tyneside.

It just seems such a weird situation at Newcastle at the moment, but maybe it’s just us.

Alan Pardew made it known when he came in last December, that he wanted to get the best players signed up to stay at the club – those players principally being Andy Carroll, Joey Barton, Jose Enrique, Cheick Tiote and Joey Barton.

But there’s a decent possibility that only Cheick will still be at the club come September.

Why is that?

    Quite simple really Ed.

    Nolan has 2yrs contract left.

So you have a few options.

    1. Bow to player pressure and give him the contract he wants.

    2. Allow his current deal to expire and him walk away for nothing.

    3. Allow him to get into the last year of his deal and leave for £1-2M.

    4. Put a price on his head now and get £6M and get another big earner off the wage bill.

Now I know which option I would go for!!!

did newcastle let it be known yesterday? thought it was just paper talk at the moment. he still has 2 years left on his deal and unless he has asked for a transfer because of poor contract negogiations (again only papers to go off) i dont think he will leave this summer.

That “£6M” never came out of Newcastle, it came from the papers, namely “The Daily Mail”

Its not rocket science,MA will sell anyone who is on big wages Nolan.Barton,Collo,Enrique.He will also sell Tiotte if someone offers £20,and replace them with cheaper options ie Taylor from Swansea. This is our future,we only have to look at past transfer windows for proof.

you never know who we might get in as a replacement, if we could get some more players with good engines and dribbling skills like tiote, who can do that short pass and move game like arsenal and barca then we will all be happy next season.

it will be sad to see kevin go as he puts the effort in and can definatly poach a goal or two but he isnt the most creative of players i have ever seen and he certainly isnt the greatest at link up play.

would love to see someone like charlie adam who can spray passes to anywhere on the pitch and i also would think we have a chance with adam johnson but we still have about 3 weeks before we can even put an offer in for those players.

For gods sake £6m for Nolan is good business.

The fact that only Fulham and West Ham have tabled interest shows this.

As long as we strengthen with the money it’s sensible. Of course we won’t know until after the window shuts if Cashley is going to cough up…..although I’m quietly optimistic. Please god.

    Cabaye goes against your theory.

Also Ben Arfa and Tiote came in for very low transfer fees, so its not all about big money deals.

We dont have a shot at Adam Johnson.
CIty want Bayern to dish out 17million for Jermained boateng, a player they signed for 10.4mill and never played

God only knows how much they want for Johnson.

The Nolan to Fulham story has as much substance as the Nolan to West Ham story or the £6M for Kevin Nolan story.

It came from the Daily Star!

    @Gorgonzola

How many players have we sold so far? 0
How many have we (Supposedly) signed? 2

Mehdi Abeid (One for the future)
Cabaye (seemingly destined to be in a black and white shirt next season)

If your going by the logic that “every player of ours that is linked to another club is going to be sold” Then going by the same principles, every player we are linked with is going to be ours.

Stop worrying and wait till news regarding ins and outs are OFFICIAL.

I see this as a re-focussing of the team.

Nolan’s been a great servant to the club, but lets face it – he’s not going to last forever, I’ll be sorry to see him go as much as the next chap but I CAN see ashleys thinking.

How many times have we bought high and sold low? And where has that gotten us?

It’s a sign of a well-functioning club where it generates it’s own wealth from within, and sentiment aside, that’s the only way we’re going to get to where we want to be.

It’s a similar situation to Hughton: thanks for a great job, we want to go another way now.

Try to be “cold” about it – it makes sense IF they can find a improved replacement (if not then they’ll just look stupid)

On an aside: I think we should be back in for parker. Nolan +£5m / parker swap – deal.
