There is news on talkSPORT today that Demba Ba agreed terms with Newcastle United on Friday evening.
Demba Ba – terms agreed and will join Newcastle?
And the further news is that the 6’3″ Senegal striker could even be joining Newcastle early next week, but of course we have no idea if this story is true.
However, the Newcastle Journal on Saturday said he was a real target of Newcastle’s, to replace departed striker Andy Carroll, so at least there’s a little bit of consistency there.
Demba Ba has played 10 times for Senegal with 3 goals and in the Premier League this year he played 13 times for relegated West Ham United, and scored a good 7 goals, and looked very good at the London club.
Demba Ba is now a free agent, thanks to him demanding a release clause in the West Ham contract he signed in January, that if West Ham were relegated he would become a free agent – and that’s exactly what has happened.
So the player would be a decent acquisition for Newcastle, but of course the one big doubt about the striker, is that he seems to have a bit of a knee problem.
As everybody now knows, the player failed a medical st Stoke City in January, and after that Stoke officials called the knee – a disaster waiting to happen.
At the time Ba was on the brink of a £6M move to the Potters from Hoffenheim, , but the deal dropped through after Stoke expressed concerns over the player’s fitness.
And the very same thing could happen at Newcastle, and the Magpies are going to want to give the player a very stringent medical, and even talk to the Stoke medical team, to ensure his knee is up to the physical requirements of the English Premier League.
In 116 games he has played for German club 1899 Hoffenheim and West Ham United he has scored 47 goals, and looks a natural when it comes to putting that ball in the back of the net, and he’s a very good header of the ball too.

Comment #8Also people banging on about Ba’s injury. Do you really think that MA is stupid enough to not get something put into his contract to do with injury baring in mind the fact he took over a club with Owen on the books and knowing how much he cost the club

Comment #9@DanNUFC me neither, it looks fine to me.
as for Ba, he is an interesting one. perhaps any sort of knee problem could be negated if we gave him a contract with an option to terminate if anything should happen as a result of that specific problem? I do think he would score goals for us, given the chance.

Comment #16I personally think Ba would be a brilliant signing. I’ve been a supporter ov mike Ashley from the start , and I’m sure he wouldn’t allow Ba’s agent to take NUFC for mugs, any deal that’s done will be just as much in the clubs favor as the players. Imagine ben arfa playing behind Ba . Zog, Tiote, Cabaye, Gutierrez . In midfield . That’s a recipe for europe right there

He’s failed a couple of medicals before now, anyone know what the story is, has he got glass knees ?

Jun 12, 2011 at 12:19 AM
Comment #19Glass knees or no glass knees, he seems to be keen on joining us if he’s met people from the club, so on that basis I’d rather him over gervinho or gamiero. Players should want to crawl through fire to play for our glorious club, no pussyfoot around waiting to see if a better offer comes along. Just ask Charles NZogbia how good Newcastle is !!!!

Comment #20archaeomag, not glass but could pop at any time. Solution. Have a clause. Something along the lines of immediate end of contract in the case of this happening.

Comment #21I haven’t noticed anything different on the blog other than the number of comments per page :-s that cwarr claims ba is a done deal, the next minute he says he is having a medical on Monday. If Ba is having a medical on Monday with his history record it is far from a done deal. I’m pretty sure he said zog and gervinho had signed but now it’s only a verbal agreement. Graham carrs middle name is William maybe this joker on twatter knows this and has simply changed moved the w. Started to become very sceptical lately.
As for ba yes he has a similar record to Best and Best’s record is the reason why he deserves to remain in toon. I know I would much rather have either ba on the books who stands a chance of being in the first eleven and has some quality instead of a player like Alan smith who receives a hefty wage for doing sweat fa. Don’t forget routledge should also be on his way out which could raise 1-2 million which will hopefully go in the kitty

Comment #22Ba would be great for £2m (signing on fee). Then if we could get Sturridge on a season-long loan, with a non-committal fixed price of £15m, that would be fantastic. If we could muster together something like this:
Cabaye – £4.5m
Ba – £2m (signing on fee)
Naylor – £1m
Zog – £10m
Sturridge – Loan
Dispensing of:
Routledge – £1.5m
Perch – £500k
Smith – free
Ranger – £1m
Xisco – free
We’d be equipped for an assault on the Euro spots and a crack at a domestic cup! 😀

Comment #24Smooth moves shola – Great name haha. I agree re the Sturridge loan deal, it would be beneficial to both clubs as Sturridge could turn round and say no after a year loan and chelsea get an improved player or if it doesn’t work out we are not lumbered with him

Totally agree that best needs to stay. I spoke to him when he was shopping in the metrocentre with his missus, n the guy is class personified. He’s very humble about his status as a prem league player and I think his levels of self belief and determination will make him a nuisance to prem defenders all next season. If we get Ba I can see Best coming on to replace him quite a bit next season to protect his glass/suspect knee !! Feel so positive about this summer for NUFC

Comment #31SmS, I hate the Idea of loans. Even if it’s Sturridge. If we make Europe I want it to be with NUFC players and not loans. Thinking about it daffy. It wasn’tz Slumberland who finished 1 point above us it was loan players.

Comment #33comparing AMEOBI and Demba BA
1) Ameobi played 28 games and score 6 league goals.
2) Demba Ba played 12 games and score 7 league goals. considering West Ham got a midfield where only scott parker provide those good balls.

Comment #34Seems like I’m alone in this one but….
I think he’s massively overrated. Personally I don’t think people have seen him play and I don’t think he’s gonna be the consistant goalscorer we desperatly need. The only reason I’d have him is because he’s free.
Here’s the goals he’s scored for west ham, I honestly think 60% of the time the defence was crap, then 30% he was lucky, 10% skill lol

Comment #37GG – you’d say otherwise if he blasted us to a top 5 finish, I’m sure 😉 . If the deal could be drawn out as I and Andy said, even if he left after achieving that (very unlikely), it would leave us sitting pretty with £15m and in a very desirable position. No lose situation. All hypothetical of course….

Comment #38Yeah Jonas is right footed yet constantly gets moaned about for his crossing on his weaker foot. Fair enough he’s had a while to practice but I think he deserves a stint on the right wing to see if he does any better. after seeing Ferguson play I would have put my faith in him on the left wing and Jonas on the right towards the end of last season. Hopefully this season we will buy a genuine left footed winger and give Jonas a chance on the right. Barring Naylor and Mbengue we haven’t been linked with any defenders which I find strange considering the amount of goals we leaked. If it wasn’t for those 4 or 5 high scoring goals then our goal difference would have been shocking. In an ideal world I would like a replacement/competition for lb and rb and then another CB to make up for sol leaving.

Comment #40Saw someone mention on an earlier article that sky bet have us as favourites to sign ba, they also have us as favourites to sign Carlton Cole. hopefully they don’t know anything and are just reacting to bets placed. has anyone jotted down the players we have in the squad at the minute? I have and its very clear what positions we lack in. I think switching Jonas to the right would bring us a bit more balance to the side
