There is news on talkSPORT today that Demba Ba agreed terms with Newcastle United on Friday evening.
Demba Ba – terms agreed and will join Newcastle?
And the further news is that the 6’3″ Senegal striker could even be joining Newcastle early next week, but of course we have no idea if this story is true.
However, the Newcastle Journal on Saturday said he was a real target of Newcastle’s, to replace departed striker Andy Carroll, so at least there’s a little bit of consistency there.
Demba Ba has played 10 times for Senegal with 3 goals and in the Premier League this year he played 13 times for relegated West Ham United, and scored a good 7 goals, and looked very good at the London club.
Demba Ba is now a free agent, thanks to him demanding a release clause in the West Ham contract he signed in January, that if West Ham were relegated he would become a free agent – and that’s exactly what has happened.
So the player would be a decent acquisition for Newcastle, but of course the one big doubt about the striker, is that he seems to have a bit of a knee problem.
As everybody now knows, the player failed a medical st Stoke City in January, and after that Stoke officials called the knee – a disaster waiting to happen.
At the time Ba was on the brink of a £6M move to the Potters from Hoffenheim, , but the deal dropped through after Stoke expressed concerns over the player’s fitness.
And the very same thing could happen at Newcastle, and the Magpies are going to want to give the player a very stringent medical, and even talk to the Stoke medical team, to ensure his knee is up to the physical requirements of the English Premier League.
In 116 games he has played for German club 1899 Hoffenheim and West Ham United he has scored 47 goals, and looks a natural when it comes to putting that ball in the back of the net, and he’s a very good header of the ball too.

Try benchmarking him with the league worst striker – Shola Ameobi.

Comment #48GG, do you think Rooney really wanted to move on, he’s idolised SAF ever since day1… I’m young but my interperetation is it was a ploy to reinforce Man United’s Commercial Image… that being,: being No.1, Getting the best players, keeping them and winning things… It’s an Image war that Liverpool are now involved in again, Chelsea too as it’s obvious, and Wenger is Setting the lead that Ashley is following

Comment #56the guy who says ba is signing, was the same guy who said that neil taylor was signing for us,before cwarr and the rest of the clowns jumped on the bandwagon,so he seems pretty reliable.
well more reliable than cwarr anyway.

Comment #57GG, do you think it’s that simple… I don’t want to dismiss that it’s not, but when there is this much money involved, don’t you think that there will be a more strategic game played… For a player to hand in a transfer request and then be utterly convinced by a persons word, within days, that all his expectations would be met… It just seems to me that the problems he seemed to have with Man UTD were solved by him protesting…
That doesn’t ring true with me

Comment #58ffs are people serious ?
how can you be happy with a striker that will be gone for a few months 2 seasons in a row due to african cup of nations and also who is one injury away from retiring.
if we get ba free transffer or not pardew and ashley will not be gtttin another striker as its already been said ben arfa will play of the striker and cabaye will be behind ben arfa in teh cam role
all these big names we supposdly put bids for is just to trick us into thinking we are tryna spend the money
pardew will hardley spend anything
with the excuse being its not thier fault top players dont want to come and they wont spend money.
we will lose 3 of our best and maybe 2 more in jan and pepole are happy due to names we are linked ot
ba fu***n ba
are people serious
his goin to be our hitman next season
f***n great

You seen Best goals? all tap ins no-one could miss but guess what you need players to put the ball in back of net its a job its called a Poacher.
For Ba he has played over 140 games getting 72 goals thats 1 goal in 2 games MAYBE you just havent seen enough of him scored tones of goals, and natural goalscorer! what you need to do is see the games where he scored his 42 goals and then come back and say he isnt a preditory striker?

Comment #60lil line-height is needed, not complaining mate and hope the surgery goes well. dont stress mr anxious Ed.
as for Demba ba. we are only into taking big risks, but there’s no risk like a tightly drawn up contract and no doubt fat AShly has one.
We Need a finisher desperately……damn who………sturridge for £15…… and blood the youngsters.

Comment #61Demba Ba will require a signing on fee and has “a degenerative knee problem” which could restrict his involvement in the team.

Comment #661. The blog is fine. Relax. It is actually better when you can see all the comments in one page. The font? well, not that big of a deal.
2. Ba as a replacement for A.C? That is a problem. We had a real bull (not disrespect to Jose) and his replacement is a bad knees player? He is good, but he should be brought in as a sub for the real A.C replacement (don’t know who that will be). What about the 35M? If Ba is free, and Cabaye is 4-5M, where are the other 30M going to go? Ok, wages, so where the other 20M are going to go?
And of course we still didn’t sell all the players we will sell this year. That could be anywhere from 0 to 16-19M
Anyway, all looks like bla bla right now. No real news and no real serious targets for 8-14M. Where are those creative CM and a real Striker?
Where is the LB? Where is a good winger or two? Where is the small striker? Where are the Subs for the CB position?
I know it is only the middle of June. But we heard that the club wants to start early no? I give it until the end of June and if there is nothing new, I am going to start feel like a real Newcastle fan again who only gets promises but nothing real.

I think people want a player like that only as a sub, not as the main striker. We cannot rely on an injury prone player in an injury prone team, to be the main striker, that is ludicrous. We need a strong striker who will be there 35-40 games a year, starting and scoring a goal every 2-3 games on average, this is the way we will move up.
Sturrige’s name is connected with those kind of stats I think. No?

Comment #69On 31 January 2011, Sturridge agreed to join Bolton Wanderers on a loan deal until the end of the season.[27] He made his debut, coming on as a substitute, two days later at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers, scoring his first goal in the process. [28] He followed this with another goal in the defeat to Tottenham Hotspur the following weekend, in which he made his first start,[29] before scoring his third goal in three games in the 2-0 victory over Everton.[30] When Sturridge scored the equaliser against Newcastle United in his fourth game, he became only the sixth player to score in his first four games for a club in the Premier League.[31] Sturridge continued to make an impact at Bolton, scoring eight goals in twelve appearances.

Comment #70A good acquisition if true, but please get another 1 decent strikers, at least Daniel Sturridge.
I don’t want to imagine the club gets 35mil for Andy Carroll and replaced him with oldie Kuqi and injury prone Ba. Please prove me wrong Mike.

Comment #73The problem is the Times New Roman font. It’s cack!
Use Arial, it’s so much smoother and easier to read.
About Demba Ba, i just hope we don’t buy another Owen. Injury prone to hell.
But I’m sure, under MA’s regime, that we’ll have some kind of clause and all that. We don’t do bad business anymore fortunatly 🙂 Or close to atleast.

Somehow i think the days were we’re spending 20 million is over. MA dont do those sort of deals cause he thinks they are overpriced. Which is right, the lad is hardly proven, just as Carrol was hardly proven. 35 mill for him was a fantasy price, and i’d never say no to that.
But maybe when we hit champions league, things could be different
