Newcastle To Make Huge Offer for International Striker

There’s some good stories in the local Sunday Sun today on the transfer front,  and one of them says Newcastle are to make a mega offer for a top International striker, after losing out on Kevin Gameiro.

Mario Gomez – are Newcastle after this striker?

It turns out that Kevin is staying in France and agreed terms with PSG yesterday, but that probably says something of his ambition to be satisfied to play in the French League. – but of course that’s his choice and his right.

The news is that Newcastle will now move for a top International striker,  who has a top record in one of Europe’s Leagues, and of course the big question is – who could that be?

The striker is not Demba Ba or Ivory Coast winger/striker Gervinho – although the Sunday Sun is reporting they are still interested in both players – but from all the news we would have seen last week, we would have thought we have no chance on Gervinho.

But there is news today  that new signing Yohan Cabaye is pleading with his former team -mate to join him at Newcastle.

We are starting to warm to Yohan – he seems a great guy and already seems fully committed to the Magpies.

One striker that comes to mind immediately is Bayern Munich’s Mario Gomez, who Newcastle have been interested in for more than a couple of years now – and he certainly fits the description.

In 289 club games the 6’3″ German striker has scored a massive 162 goals, and he also has 19 goals for Germany in 46 appearances.

But with Newcastle losing out on Gameiro and maybe Gervinho, the club have cash burning a hole in their pocket, and we have to hope they will be bringing in at least two top players this summer for big transfer fees.

The fee needed for the striker is said to be in 8 figures, so that’s £10M or more, and as might have been expected, other clubs are also interested.

Who do you think this striker could be ?

Comments always welcome.

International Strikers i reckon we have half a chance of getting

    1.Loic Remy

    2.Jonathan Soriano

3.Bojan (in a swap for enrique only, cant see Barca selling him for straight cash)

4.Park Chu Young (If he doesnt have to do National Service)

5,Vedad Ibiševi? from Hoffenheim 43 goals in 113 appearences 26 years old

6.Chinedu Obasi also from Hoffenheim Nigerian striker/winger with 25 goals in 74 appearences (signed n 2007 so should have 2 years on his contract left) 25 years old

So 1 right article from the Sunday Shite means they are a credible source now?

Jog on Mr…T. If you dont like any of my opinions keep it to yourself. Everytime you start an argument with me, it puts me to sleep, and disrupts the discussion on the board.

Would love Moussa Sow, but would be amazed if we get him, Mario Gomez is a top player, all the player that you guys have mentioned on here would greatly improve our squad.

Now slate me if you want but, I would love to see Shane Long come here

If Gervinho doesnt sign, i reckon we have a slight chance of Going after Obasi, Cant recall Newcastle being linked/signing any players from the Bundesliga.

Obasi is afterall a similar type of player to Gervinho, both can play as a striker/ Winger, and are in their mid twenties.

    Lille won’t sell Sow
Bojan wants to stay at Barca to fight for a place
Higgy won’t drop down that many levels to us same with Benny
    Gomez I highly doubt

Anyone else I can realistically rule out? Not being miserable being realistic

Moussa Sow should be a priority; not sure if we’re in a position to get him, but my money is on him.

Gervinho is not a striker in the English sense of the word; Remy could be a long shot.

Neither Soriano nor Ruiz scores enough goals. Rather we went for Ricky Van Wolfswinkel or Osvaldo.

As long as we dont go for Carlton Cole. Id rather bring Andy Cole back from retirement.
I think Gomez would be quality or Daniel Sturridge both would a great move. A bit of experience and youth just what we need.
