There’s some good stories in the local Sunday Sun today on the transfer front, and one of them says Newcastle are to make a mega offer for a top International striker, after losing out on Kevin Gameiro.
Mario Gomez – are Newcastle after this striker?
It turns out that Kevin is staying in France and agreed terms with PSG yesterday, but that probably says something of his ambition to be satisfied to play in the French League. – but of course that’s his choice and his right.
The news is that Newcastle will now move for a top International striker, who has a top record in one of Europe’s Leagues, and of course the big question is – who could that be?
The striker is not Demba Ba or Ivory Coast winger/striker Gervinho – although the Sunday Sun is reporting they are still interested in both players – but from all the news we would have seen last week, we would have thought we have no chance on Gervinho.
But there is news today that new signing Yohan Cabaye is pleading with his former team -mate to join him at Newcastle.
We are starting to warm to Yohan – he seems a great guy and already seems fully committed to the Magpies.
One striker that comes to mind immediately is Bayern Munich’s Mario Gomez, who Newcastle have been interested in for more than a couple of years now – and he certainly fits the description.
In 289 club games the 6’3″ German striker has scored a massive 162 goals, and he also has 19 goals for Germany in 46 appearances.
But with Newcastle losing out on Gameiro and maybe Gervinho, the club have cash burning a hole in their pocket, and we have to hope they will be bringing in at least two top players this summer for big transfer fees.
The fee needed for the striker is said to be in 8 figures, so that’s £10M or more, and as might have been expected, other clubs are also interested.
Who do you think this striker could be ?
Comments always welcome.

Comment #81geordilad… When he says “with allot of money” i would guess that that northern club lies in the northwest rather than the northeast and my guess would be man city signing Aguero

I think it will be Mevlut Erding from PSG.
He definitely will be leaving the club after they bought Gameiro.

Comment #87Lads at the end of the day, the club are gonna keep their cards close to their chest, Speculation is great and it helps us pass the day at work but in all honesty I wouldnt be suprised if we signed someone under the radar, ashley likes to do that so nobody picks up on their targets

Comment #88Got a feeling we have done a shrewd piece of business with psg to ensure they sign gamiero in order for us to have erding could be and probably am wrong but… this way they get a return on erding and theyve got cover.. it makes sense doesnt it?!

Comment #91i think it could be cisse, he’s got a good goalscoring record at all clubs but liverfool, i don’t think he got a proper chance there. he’s deffo going to be leaving after all the racist abuse he got, and he would be a more realistic target than gomez and cheaper, probably get him for 5-8 mil.

Comment #93i think that it will of they.
my options:
1: lukas podolski.
2: ola toivonen.
3.nicklas bendtner.
4.huntelar
5: gonzalo higuain( is very unrealistic)
6:emannuel adebayor.
i hope be gonzalo higuain, but, is very unrealistic, if sign to lukas podolski and nicklas bendtner or only lukas podolski would be very happy.

Comment #94Hey, just a quick intro, im new on this site. I’m not actually from Newcastle or even UK for that matter, Im actually from Singapore but trust me I bleed black and white just like any of you.
I doubt it’s gonna be Gomez, it just does’t make sense. Its very likely gonna be Erding from PSG who I really have’t seen too much of but if we could wrap up the deal for around 7mil for him I’d be happy to welcome him at St James’s. I really do hope N’Zogbia signs for us too, he’s a great player who wants to play for us. Hope Ashley and DW can kiss and make up….

Comment #96The article has plenty of clues – similar age and scoring record to Gameiro, from a top club in a European league that’s a favorite hunting ground for NUFC. That favorite hunting ground part would appear to rule out Gomez. The only player I’ve heard about or can think of who fits all the clues is Erding.
