Yohan Cabaye Assured of More Signings

11:00 am, Monday, June 13th, 2011 by Neil Harrison · 78 Comments

New Toon signing Yohan Cabaye has stated today that the directors have assured him more players will be following him to Newcastle.

Cabaye -told Gervinho to join him at Newcastle

Here are the statements given today by the new Newcastle midfielder:

“I am going to play in the best championship in the world for a club who want to get back into Europe within a year and one who are building an ambitious team.

“I am the first recruit but I have discussed things with manager Alan Pardew and I know others will follow. The directors have assured me on this point.”

These are promising words from Cabaye that the club does plan to move this club upwards and onwards. Though as Yohan will definitely find out not everything that comes from the board is ironclad but we definitely believe that this is the plan going forward.

Now we just have to convince quality signings that their future is at Newcastle and that future is a bright one. We also hope that these signings are in fact quality and not just youngsters or squad players.  It does not good to just bring in quantity.  Newcastle need difference makers.  And that doesn’t necessarily mean big money but it does mean players that will add not just depth but excitement and ability to the squad.

These quotes do shed some light on what Alan Pardew is telling prospective signings.  I for one just can’t wait for the next one if it is someone like Yohan.

Whoever we are after needs to be wrapped up quickly ! The team needs a full pre season together so new players can settle quickly !! Zog n Taylor by end of week ! Ba and another striker within 8-9 days

hope our striker we are supossedly going to bid for is huntellar. as soon as we sold andy carrol I thought of him straight away. he plays a bit like carrol being physical and good in the air but with more skill

  • 8 toon009 // Jun 13, 2011 at 11:12 AM

It is such a bad idea to get Gervinho and ba. What will happen in Jan when they all leave for African cup?
    I would like only ba

  • 9 Eyeball81 // Jun 13, 2011 at 11:13 AM

alrite guys, good news to hear that new signings wl be made…however if we sell any players we will be back to square one…theres no point in getting players in but selling the likes of jose, barton and nolan…i’d love to be proved wrong mr pardew!

  • 10 Cardboy // Jun 13, 2011 at 11:14 AM

‘Europe within a year’ yes we’d all want and sign up for that. I like the ambitious talk now let’s match it with some more good signings, while building on quality we already have there.

  • 11 bobby jay // Jun 13, 2011 at 11:14 AM

Best could hold the fort for a couple of week during acon . Still think bendtner is worth a punt

  • 12 MacGyver // Jun 13, 2011 at 11:15 AM

this might sound obvious but the best clubs have the best strikers.

we have strikers that are at best average.

our priority should be strikers first and then other areas.

  • 13 NUFC_Richyg01 // Jun 13, 2011 at 11:15 AM

Dont you just hate it when someone claims “1st” and they are actually second or worse!

    Epic Fail!

  • 14 arcarius // Jun 13, 2011 at 11:15 AM

79 days til the transfer window closes, looooooong way to go

any guesses how many player we’ll actually end up signing?

  • 15 jayphoto // Jun 13, 2011 at 11:15 AM

toon009, shouldn’t be too much of a problem! Ba struggles to get into the senegal squad, he’s on the fringes! It’s 5 weeks, hopefully we’d have a strong enough squad to cope for those games! I’d happily lose gervinho for 5 weeks if it meant we saw him play 30 games for toon next season! great player, plays with a smile on his face too!

  • 16 Stuart // Jun 13, 2011 at 11:16 AM

    toon009

When the african cup of nations is on we’d have Jonas as backup for gervinho, gosling backup for tiote and Best/Long/whoever we sign up front as cover for Ba.

I reckon we have enough quality to cover them for the 4 or so games they would miss.

I dont think we’re going to get gervinho anyway though so it makes no difference lol.

  • 17 Troleibusiukas_LTU // Jun 13, 2011 at 11:16 AM

Great news, hope it will turn out to be true at the end of the summer. :) p.s if we get a winger, this will mean ferguson is on the bench again or he will play as a RB? and what about Raylor’s future? He is not keen on sitting on the bench either…

  • 18 Nufc_mo // Jun 13, 2011 at 11:17 AM

    IN:
    - Andre Schürrle 20 yr old (Winger/Striker)- 11million

    - Jonathan Soriano 25 year old (Forward) – 9mill

    - Matthias Zimmermann 18 year old (L/R fullback and DM) – 2mill

    - Neil taylor (Left Back back up) – 1.5mill

    Total Cost: 23million

    Out:
    - Nolan for a fee of atleast 8million+ only
    - Perch for whatever price we can get
    - Xisco for 1mill
    - Smith for 500,000

    :)

  • 19 Nufc_mo // Jun 13, 2011 at 11:19 AM

    23.5million =.=

  • 20 MacGyver // Jun 13, 2011 at 11:19 AM

  • 21 t00ntime // Jun 13, 2011 at 11:20 AM

So you don’t want a star winger cause every 4 years we lose him for 2/3 weeks?? I would rather have a good player like him than a player who is shit but doesn’t come from Africa

Besides if he plays right wing both raylor Barton and gosling can fill in for 3 weeks

  • 22 arcarius // Jun 13, 2011 at 11:20 AM

Thank God you’re not Graham Carr Nufc_mo
if not we’re gonna end up wasting that 25-30m by now,

  • 23 Nufc_mo // Jun 13, 2011 at 11:21 AM

I reckon Cabaye (if he becomes a hit) could become Captain in a few seasons… if we are truly building a french frontline..,

  • 24 Ericles // Jun 13, 2011 at 11:22 AM

Still think we should go for Zog asap before the mackems move in on him. Ba worth a shot too if his knee is not a problem. As for Gervinho – I think he will go with the wind and not sign for us. Would be great to have him but…well, we know how this club operates. Would like to see Forster given a chance for us too instead of farming him out elsewhere. What is wrong with showing some loyalty and confidence in our own local talent.? And let us make sure Lua Lua has a future with NUFC instead of losing him back to Brighton. It should not be Ashley and Llambias with hands on. No it should be hands off and let Pardew, Carver, Stone and Beardsley get on with the real job.

  • 25 P.I. // Jun 13, 2011 at 11:22 AM

    @Nufc_mo

Absolutely NO CHANCE IN HELL of getting £8M for Kev Nolan, so we may as well just say we have to keep him.

  • 26 arcarius // Jun 13, 2011 at 11:23 AM

    Those IMO can leave are

    - Smith
    - Perch
    - Ameobi
    - Guthrie AND Raylor – provided Nolan and Barton sign new contracts or us buying new midfielders AGAIN

  • 27 Nufc_mo // Jun 13, 2011 at 11:23 AM

Whose to say im not really Grahem carr :P

Hard to say its a waste….

Soriano 32 goals in 36 games, albeit barca B team

Shurrle 15 goals and 4 assist in 33 games and has a mean right foot. Only 20 years old….

Personally I dont think Graham Carr gets anywhere near enough praise, the work he’s doing finding that ben arfa, cabaye and tiote were available for a combined fee of around 12m, hes the best signing Newcastle have made in a while! forget the players

  • 31 Tommyy // Jun 13, 2011 at 11:27 AM

Anyone else a tad worried that if we do get in 3 – 4 top signings that A) We could lose that English core and graft from the starting 11, and B) Barton and Nolan could kick off if not starting and create a divide between them and foreign players?
Barton seems to be already at it posting snide twitter comments and it’s not even pre season.

  • 33 Nick 69 // Jun 13, 2011 at 11:28 AM

i used this site for like 3 years, and stopped last season because of 3 reasons.
    1) the whole, sad, pathetic FIRST!! crack,
2)people claiming the have ‘inside info’ or a ‘source’
    3) people coming out with ridiculous players they think we should sign, who are way way way out of our league.

Iv been back using the site for the last couple of days and see there is still just as much of this bollocks floating about as ever, it really spoils a good website.

Wish people would just grow up, be realistic and have decent crack about the toon – like MOST of you do – then we wouldn’t be the laughing stock of football we are to other fans around the country

Eastander – lol, no just winds me up seeing people seriously thinking we’re gonna be signing people like Benzema, Higuain, Falcao, Lavezzi etc. And it winds me up even more when people say they have inside knowledge and others get wound up and disappointed when it doesn’t happen

  • 48 Davies // Jun 13, 2011 at 11:39 AM

Nick 69 – If you don’t like the blog, you really don’t have to read it. Nobody’s forcing you.

I don’t really get on with the whole “1st” thing, but some of the bloggers seem to enjoy, so who are we to criticise?

Regarding speculation of “ridiculous” players, that’s why some of us come on here. Of course we won’t be signing Messi or Ronaldo, but I enjoy the speculation.

Finally, I’d be grateful if you could let me know exactly what it is that is so grown up about following a football team. Many of us have been supporting the toon since we were kids, and for me, it’s the only thing that hasn’t changed in my life. I have no intention of growing up in this regard. I think it would it would rob me of any of the pleasure I get from being a toon supporter.

“Finally, I’d be grateful if you could let me know exactly what it is that is so grown up about following a football team. Well said mate, quite profound.I’m much the same and I think we all see the transfer windows as a bit of soap opera, some escapism.
Who wants to be ‘grown up’ about it on a faceless blog board anyway? Where’s the fun in admitting we’ll sign a load of uninteresting players and fight relegation as a result all next year?
Much better to say we would like to see Benzema in black and white next season, even if we know deep down that it won’t happen in a month of sundays.
About as likely as finding a decent looking bird in Scumsville.

  • 55 Markaccus // Jun 13, 2011 at 11:55 AM

That was a joke by cwarr, I thought toon fans had a sense of humour. All this abuse towards people who may or may not know things is pathetic. Venting frustration when things don’t happen straight away. I’m sure we all want to know, but we must be patient!

  • 58 Nick 69 // Jun 13, 2011 at 12:06 PM

Davies- i didnt mean grow up as far as supporting the toon goes, that was refering the whole 1st thing, its pathetic.

I know nobody is forcing me, that is why I havent used the site for over a year after enjoying it for 3 years before that. I enjoy speculation myself, but realistic specualtion, not absurd players who wouldnt ever consider signing for us, that is exactly the kind of thing that gets the rest of the country calling us deluded, as I said, MOST people on here come for some serious crack about the toon, then there are the others who come on to wind people up with ‘inside info’ and ridiculous rumours

  • 59 NathanH NUFC // Jun 13, 2011 at 12:08 PM

    N’Zogbia/Gervinho – 10M
    Gomez (VERY Optimistic) – 20M
    Naylor – 1M
    Cabaye – 4.3M
    Ba – Free

35.3M – Although I highly doubt Gomez, if we DID bring in these players a trophy is surely worth a go?

  • 60 Nick 69 // Jun 13, 2011 at 12:10 PM

P.I – if you see the future of Newcastle United as a bit of fun and a ‘soap opera’ then thats up to you, I however take it seriously.

And as far as a bit of escapism goes, and unrealistic signings, i’ll stick to Football Manager for that lol

  • 61 Burni // Jun 13, 2011 at 12:20 PM

Good news this! I know pardew and ashley have the capability to go back on what they have told wor cabaye but im not sure if that will be the case! Ive said since carroll was sold that i think the money will be reinvested and im still sure it will! I know we will NOT spend 35m on transfer fees but i imagine we will get a few more players of cabayes, tiotes, ben arfas ilk and a few frees and tbh i would be happy. People have to remember that wages will cost millions too! Someone said earlier that carr has been the best signing for us in a long time and i couldnt agree more! and yeah juggalo you n’alf look like a tit mate :-D

  • 62 Davies // Jun 13, 2011 at 12:32 PM

Fairplay Nick. I have only two niggles with blogs (not just this one) and the first is the sam as one of yours; the inside information thing. By all means speculate, just don’t tell me that it comes from the club. It’s pointless really. The other niggle is all of the idiotic arguing and falling out over who’s a better player, or whether or not we’re a well run club. These arguments are also pointless, and often contain my pet hate, the use of the word “FACT!” at the end of an opinion based rant.

Anyhoo, my targets for the summer are Benzema, Hulk, Messi and Rooney. I have an inside source that tells me all of these will be signed in the next 3 hours, so it has to be happening. FACT!

Newcastle United Star Edges Close to £8.5m Liverpool Move as Manager Admits Contract Talks Go Nowhere

Look’s like Jose is hot to trot down to the Binmen

And he is still waiting on an offer from Ashley !

Seems just like the Joey Barton And Kevin Nolan situation..

Ashley surround’s himself with yes men.
And he seems to have no respect for the supporters..wont matter to him that some of the best players at the club are sold…money is king

Sometimes you have to speculate to grow …Get it right on the pitch and everything else follows..

We are going to loose one of the best left back’s in the world for a paltry £8.5M

He is willing to stay for a fair wage but Ashley wont give him one..we loose Again.

Nolan and Barton might be away soon..two of our best players ..leaders ,,and you need men like them ..

We are going nowhere with this Shi**y way of running things .

Geordiedoonsouth (71)…..if we rid ourselves of JB, KN and Jose (who doesn’t seem to have been offered the “much improved contract”) then things won’t be okay…because it will mean we have then sold off all of the players(including AC) who have been the mainstay of our team in the last two seasons and gave some backbone and self-respect back to the club after the disaster of relegation….even if we bring in decent replacements “at least as good” this would mean we were standing still at best…at worst, it would probably mean we had a load of foreigners/strangers who don’t know what it really means to wear the 2 stripes! Need I remind you we had quite a lot of talented wasters 2 years ago who didn’t want to know when things get tough and the weather worsens?

  • 76 moonraker // Jun 13, 2011 at 9:03 PM

I think Dalglish is either getting some bad advice or else he’s lost his marbles paying all that money for Henderson like!
I know he’s a Mackem, therefore I’m looking for faults but I just can’t see him being worth 20mil. In fact if he’s worth 20mil then Barton’s worth 40 and we know his shortcomings.

Also, as every week goes by do you get the impression that AC is on a hiding to nothing? The press are on his case already; that’s cos they know he aint worth 35 mil.

What we need to do now is sign a top european (cos the English players are overpriced), and him to score a few goals and Dalglish is gonna look really stupid. The scousers revere him but we know he is fallible.

If we keep signing good players like Cabaye we could finish above them next season. Pity we gonna lose Jose like but if we get a fair wedge that’s ok. One thing about Ashley’s regime; they wont be giving him away or be held to ransom. Howay the Lads :-)

  • 77 moonraker // Jun 13, 2011 at 9:16 PM

    toon 4 life @ 72

there’s no way Berbatov will be coming to Newcastle great talent though he is. If Fergie dont rate him above MO for the european cup final he’s got issues of some kind! We can do without them.

We need young hungry players who have something to prove not prima donnas. Been there, had them, end of!

  • 78 DoctorZelig // Jun 13, 2011 at 9:58 PM

We should try to sign proven champions.

We signed Tioté last year. Undoubtedly one of our best signings for years. He had just proven a champion for Twente i believe…

Now we have signed Cabaye, also just a champion with Lille….

We need to build a winning mentality in the squad. Filling it with players that knows how to win Trophies. It does not matter if the players from a smaller league not that I would call the french or dutch league small, but compared to the EPL they just are.

We need winners!!! In Tioté and Cabaye we got them but we need more. Team them up with our own tallents so they can learn from them and we will be on the path to success…
