One of the players that Newcastle could be interested in is Klaas-Jan Huntelaar currently of Schalke 04.
Huntelaar-Club career has gone wayward of late
Huntelaar was the darling of Dutch football back when he starred for Ajax where he scored an amazing 76 goals in 92 appearances for the Amsterdam Club. That included two back to back seasons of 36 goals each. That was in the underwhelming Eredivisie but an impressive tally nonetheless.
He then made his big money move to Real Madrid in the dreaded January transfer window in 2009. At Madrid, he lasted only half a season before moving to AC Milan and then Schalke 04 this past season.
His scoring ratio dropped dramatically in the more competitive La Liga, Serie A, and Bundesliga as he managed only 27 goals in 84 games over the past 2 1/2 seasons. Though for a player switching leagues three times in such a short span that in not an embarrassing total.
Huntelaar could be available in the range of £10-12mil and would be a great capture for that amount of money. He is only 27 and is a Dutch International who still scores prolifically for his country. However I think this move would be doubtful since it would be his fourth league in as many years.
Though the past is the best predictor of future events. And I wouldn’t put it past Newcastle to be interested in a player with Huntelaar’s pedigree. What do you think?

Comment #5Could be a good signing, despite his dip in goals I’ve always thought he’d do well in the PL.
Would prefer a bid for Sturridge but if the price quoted in the papers is true, there is no way he’ll be coming here.

Comment #6He’d definately be a gamble but may be worth the risk. 27? Wow thought he was still 24-ish. He also seems to be a player that needs to be comfortable and treated well/ pampered to get the best out of him but if you can get him in form then he seems certain to score goals.
P.S. Ha! No annoying ‘first’-ers!

Sturridge would be my preferred Judas replacement as well but I can’t see it happening.

Comment #9Sturridge is not a target. Ashley might spend at max, half of how much Chelsea’s evaluation of Sturridge is on a single player (20 mil).
K-J-H would be a good signing, but I too think it is unrealistic, even though he has “supposedly” been a target of ours for quite some time.
Thanks for the update Neil. Hope we can sign a player to make Ed get back to 100% faster.

Comment #10would love to see him at the toon but realistically how much??? more then fat ash is prepared to pay, could see him do well in the EPL and if so could make a resale very inviting for the money grabbing monster.

Comment #11sadly, Ashley seems only interested in players younger than 26, so Huntelaar doesn’t really fit in to his transfer policy..

I’ve always thought Hunterlaar was a great player. Don’t know why he didn’t succeed at Milan and Schalke. I’d definitely take him. He’s a good target man and great finisher.

Comment #15His ability is very questionable, his touch is poor, he is rather slow, and isnt that strong. granted scored a few but he would be too expensive, transfer fee and wages and he wouldnt be worth it we need someone quick/powerful and bangs in goals 1 every 2 games atleast like Ba/Gamiero/Gervinho/Long
Plus is 27(28) in August and as we know thats too old just ask Barton, if we are looking at Ideye Brown he is 22 and thats age we should look at. Plus Ideyes ratio is 2.3
Just isnt worth it.
GREAT TO HEAR ED’S FINE 😀

Always the do this, when they hear NUFC are interested guess what, Sunderland/Spurs/Everton/Liverpool are SOMEHOW interested too, either they just nick who we scout or its just paper rumour thinking they “MAY” Want that player too.

Didnt hear him signing or any Twitter rumours, maybe its just wishfull thinking from the news we were in contact with him and he agreed terms (so) the Sunday Mirror said.

Comment #33What’s striking is how quickly Real, AC, and Shalke made up their minds, admitted their mistake and moved him on. No drawn-out situations like we had with Viana, Luque and now Xisco where we drag it on and on until the player’s stock has gone through the floor and nobody wants to take him off your books.
And I’m surprised, too, how many nutters on here would have Ashley blow our total striker budget on this bloke who at 27 has failed spectacularly to make any impression outside Holland.

Comment #35I like Huntelaar, but I don’t think he is our perfect #9, there are many more better candidates like Edinson Cavani, Pazzini, Matri, Vucinic, etc. They have proven themself in Seria A (toughest defenses in the world).
It’s all just how much Ashley want to spend for 1 player. I think even Balloteli is still much better than Huntelaar.

Comment #40I think he would be an ideal target man for us.
The fact that he failed in Madrid, Milan and Schalke 04 doesn’t really mean that he is not good enough for us. Just look at the Dutch team. Is he on their list now? You get what I mean.
I know it, the Dutch national team manager knows it. Klaas-Jan Huntelaar is a top class finisher.
He was unfortunate in Madrid because in that season, the team was sort of changing “fashion” for the sake of amusing their chairman and supporters. Most Dutch players in Madrid were out of favour. It didn’t matter how good they were back then.
In Milan, again, if you watch Serie A and read their news regularly you would know. It’s all about politics and their favouring white Italian players instead of foreigners. That’s why he lost his position to Marco Borriello despite being more profilic and creative in scoring goals. You can see Huntelaar’s goals whilst he were in Milan. The one that particularly strikes me was when he scored 2 goals in 2 minutes + extra time as a late replacement for another player.
He didn’t get enough supply of balls when he was there.
He is a top finisher. If he were our striker last season, we would have been on the top 6 of the league table. We created many chances for our strikers, only that they were NOT good enough, excepting Andy and Leon..
Look at Andy now…and if he didn’t leave us, he would be the top scorer in the EPL last season…
Hope we can get Huntelaar in.
