Mevlüt Erdinç on Newcastle Radar

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew has confirmed today what many Newcastle fans had speculated over the past few days that the Magpies are definitely interested in Paris Saint-Germain striker Mevlüt Erdinç.

Mevlüt Erdinç – On Newcastle’s Radar

Here is what Alan told the Journal this morning:

“Erding has always been on our radar. He’s a very good player and that is all I will say at the moment.”

We mentioned Erdinç a few days ago as a possible target but we’re not too high on him coming to Tyneside as they’re are better options out there. If Newcastle are in fact able to get Demba Ba then Erdinç could be a decent acquisition for the club.

Pardew also mentioned that a new signing is imminent:

“We should have another signing finished in the next few days, and we will able to confirm that one as well.”

I think most Newcastle fans would be delighted if that was Ba (as long as he passes his medical) but it could also be Swansea left back Neil Taylor.

With news yesterday that Enrique is not talking to Newcastle about a new contract, Neil Taylor would be a welcome addition. But only if another Left Back was brought in as well as Taylor is not ready to fill Enrique’s shoes just yet.

Here it is Toonruz, Lets say your telling the truth(for now) it’s a done deal and all the rest of it. Are you willing to put your rep on the line and say if Gervinho is not a Newcastle player by the end of the transfer window, you will admit you were wrong and never come back on this blog again. Put your money where your mouth is, so to speak.

interesting to see how much we are paying PSG for him.

sadly with news that lille are opening talks with arsenal is pretty much telling us to forget about gervinho.

he’s shite, cannot score and is not creative at all. live in Paris and been to a quite a few PSG matches over the last season(s).
PSG must be laughing their balls off: got (toon’s top target) Calimero and can offload Erding (to the toon)…
    simply not good enough…

Erding seems like a bit of a gamble (his record was similar to Shola’s last season), but if Carr has been involved in this, and he almost certainly has, I’ll look forward to seeing what he can do with the service HBA, Cabeye, Jonas, Barton, Nolan (if they’restill here) can provide him with.

    Good luck ross.
Interesting couple of things: in january erding was well wanted by many on this blog, now he is linked, some are now saying no good! Talk about fickle!
Gervinho had agreed terms with nufc, the whole club apparently thought they had him, and then last min he stalls things (advisors anyway) and now arsenal are going to land him. I don’t think the people who said it was a done deal are in the wrong, since it obviously looked that way

I take that as a no from you then, Rudy. Like I said, I do think it’s a gamble. Perhaps Carr/Pardew see something in him that could be improved by playing at the toon?

Erding career record is 53 in 155 games, that’s better than 1 in 3. Can’t judge him on one season!

    Think you mean Gameiro…

Erding had a poor season, but he has been very highly rated in the three seasons prior to that. He had a very good scoring record until his blip, too. Willing to give him a chance as long as we don’t pay over the odds for him.

The only reason fans have gone from wanting Erding to turning their noses up at him is because they got deluded and thought the “mystery” striker was going to be someone ridiculous like Gomez, Higuain, Benzema…

@Davies: he has a tremendous work rate though, the absolute contrast of Hoarau, who’s like a stature.
@MykToonFan: yes it’s Gameiro, was just joking around. well he is as big as Calimero! 🙂
if he go’s back to his scoring days, why not. but a gamble, especially for that price …

Been doing a bit of thinking about realistic players who I’d like to see at Newcastle. No one really stood out other than Gabby Agbonlahor. He’s strong, pacey, and knows where the net is. Worth about 8M, Villa will ask for 12.
Otherwise, in terms of strikers, Derdiyok, Arnautovi? or Kießling would be worth a punt, and winger-wise, T. Barnetta of Basel or T. Kroos of Bayern?

@myk. My thoughts exactly, toon fans seem to want players who are out of reach, at least for a couple of years till we re establish ourselves.
Pards wants 3 players by end of next week, and then another 2 at least by end of window. Realistically who would it be.
Zog, erding, ba, n taylor and CB

Think I will go with Carr’s knowledge on the player rather than a few fans who have seen brief glimpse’s of him and are going of his stats. Some on here live in a fantasy world when it comes to players, like MykToonFan said we have no chance of the top top strikers and others seem to be listing players that turn good in football manger.

You know something people, I think we have been spoiled with regards to strikers ever since a certain Mr A Shearer played for us. Since his retirement there has been no-one that can come even close to his scoring prowess. These days we are going to have to look to having 2 strikers with reasonable scoring records and rely on some scoring mid-fielders to help the cause. How I wish we had an A. Shearer cloning machine.
