There has to be something going on at St. James’ Park that the fans are not aware of.
Jonas Gutierrez – Liverpool interest?
Otherwise why on earth would Newcastle sell their captain and top goalscorer Kevin Nolan to a second division club?
Kevin is undergoing a medical and is likely to sign for the east London club tonight, and link up once again with Sam Allardyce..
And there’s news today that Liverpool may try to take advantage of what seems an unsteady situation at the Tyneside club, by putting in a double bid for Jose Enrique and Jonas Gutierrez.
Jonas will not be happy that Jose Enrique is looking to leave Newcastle, and it seems the players may be keen to leave Newcastle, since captain Kevin Nolan will be leaving – for whatever reason.
Joey Barton has exacerbated the situation by saying on his twitter account there will be a mass exodus from Newcastle, but that’s like pouring gasoline on a raging fire.
We have no idea if the news is true that Liverpool will put in a double bid for Jose and Jonas, but it wouldn’t surprise us either.
But one thing that worries us greatly is that it’s OK bringing in top stars over the summer, but if we lose the core of the side in players like Nolan, Barton, Enrique and even Gutierrez, the spirit of the side will have left.
What will happen to the great team spirit at Newcastle we have no idea, but Newcastle owe their fans an explanation of just what they are doing in letting some of our best players leave the club.
But if history is any judge we’ll hear absolutely nothing, unless Alan Pardew wants to address the situation, but these moves have gone against what Pardew has wanted, since he was very anxious to keep both Barton and Nolan on Tyneside.
Comments welcome.

As much as I love Jonas, I don’t think liverpool would want him, they can afford much better.

Comment #9Every player at Newcastle has his price bar none as proved with Carroll. Is this bad news ? It all depends on replacements ! would I swap Nolan for Cabaye ? Yes. Would i swap Gutierrez for N’zogbia ? Yes . ….So lets not view this as an exodus but a period of transition and wait and see what the transfer market brings. Keep the faith !!

It’s never a case of replacing players in football – we need squad depth which we are systematically removing.
I would much prefer having Zoggy and Jonas rather than an absolute one or the other.

Comment #20I’m telling you, don’t criticize Pardew and the club until you see the players who have been brought in. Nolan’s been a good midfielder for us, but his legs have gone. In comes Cabaye, a determined, young midfielder, who’s playing for the French international side…

Comment #21Anxious is a bit of an overstatement. He said he would like to keep them, but I wouldn’t say he went out of his way to make sure that it happened. I think the supposed deals offered to Nolan and Joey were very fair considering their respective ages.
If you look at the situation subjectively, Joey, Jonas and Kevin were not getting any younger. If we are to think about our future, we do not want to be in a position where we have a lot of aging talent that we can’t shift because no one wants them. This is the perfect time to sell all three players as long as suitable replacements are found. Cabaye is a good start, and Gardner for the right price would be a good rotation player. Both would be on less wages than Joey and Kevin. I’m not knocking what either of them have done for the club, I’m just saying they aren’t irreplaceable. Jonas could easily be replaced by someone who would have far more impact on a game.
As for enrique, he obviously wants to go. Obviously that is a shame, but you can’t blame Ashley or Pardew for a choice that the player has made. They can’t keep an unhappy player. And what was the quoted figure? Like 12mil? If we get anywhere near that for a left back, then that is good business.

You mean the plastic fans of the football world? Don’t ever commend them on spitting their dummy out – it’s most certainly not a positive action.

Comment #24Looking at the transfers from 2006 to 2011 there is a lot of players that have had little or no re-sale value from big fees, it also includes the Andy Carroll money;
Viana lost 6.8m
Bowyer Free
Elliot Free
Boumsong lost 5.2m
Bernard Free
Bramble Free
Babayaro Free
Carr Free
Ramage Free
Cacapa Free
Owen Free
Luque ? Free
Not a definitive list and I haven’t time to look at all the values but the point is that there are some here that were not good enough, didn’t want to be here, too old, or the club didn’t get sell them when there was a value attached to their signature and it’s cost us millions.
As for the contracts these guys are on, you are talking telephone numbers, life changing. For some like who are on £60K a week that’s like winning the Lotto 4 times over when they sign a 5 year deal, it’s £15M in wages over the contract plus bonuses and sposorship.
When my employer was struggling I took a 37.5% pay cut to do my bit.

Team spirit isn’t everything and the best thing for it is to win. Now, all they have to do is get a team together that can do that. :s

Comment #26I hope Ashley knows he can definitely bring in players of high quality to replace those he is letting go. That is my main concern. We definitely can’t afford to pull a Carroll here and let our best players go and then sign either nobody or some cheap Championship player (is that what NTaylor is if Jose goes?). This looks extremely risky to the stability of the team. We are going to need a large number of high quality replacements the way things look. Graham Carr better be finding the right players for us or next season could be a disaster. Maybe this is why we aren’t playing any team of quality in the pre-season. Wouldn’t want to embarass the players and upset the supporters would we? Also having them off in the States keeps things quiet for a few weeks. This could turn out well with the right signings or it could be a complete disaster.

I wish more people were thinking like that. We have two months to build a team. If its not done on Sept 1st then we can start calling for MA’s head.
Until then let the club do their transfer business and see what happens.

Comment #29Remember Geremi guys ? At his peak at chelsea or so We thought. Great pedigree and his legs had gone. Same age as nolan is now . Nolan has been a good servant but he relied on Carrolls knock downs a lot. If cabaye can settle in We have a class replacement. And if We get them in early then the squad will be ready for the new season. HWTL

Comment #32Lets just wait and see who we get in. Jose dont want to be here, jonas has very little end product, nolan doesnt fit into the way AP wants to play and barton is a prick the way he going on!!! If hes that unhappy with whats going on why doesnt he just quit n walk out on his 60k a week wage because im sure theres a list as long as my arm willing to take him on!!! Oh but it wont be on the money he on here or would he get anywhere near the 50k he reckons he would of accepted for a new contract. So why doesnt he shut up and do what hes paid to. Instead of trying to run a club.

Comment #33Come on lets be serious here!! Yes we need quality players in but these are to move us on a level not to replace the supposed quality where letting go because if these players where on about are such quality players why wernt we finishing up in the european slots. Quality players help u get there. Average players having good seasons help you finish exactly where we did

Comment #38i still think this is down to pardew wanting the loudest voice in the dressing room all the “senior pro’s” who had the infamous meeting after hughton was sacked are being weeded out , cant have the players picking the team .or it could be that nolan doesnt fit pardews vision of fast fluent passing football … anyways , if ben arfa is fit then nolans on the bench

Comment #40GeordieLander I don’t know if you noticed we shed a few squad players Cabaye was to replace one of these we have not replaced Carroll yet, so your wrong it is an exodus until we replace what we have lost.
