News today that Newcastle have launched a bid of £6M for 24 year-old PSG striker Mevlüt Erdinç.
Mevlüt Erdinç – PSG Turkish striker
The 5’11” Turkish International striker has been linked with Newcastle since last summer, when then manager Chris Hughton tried to bring him to the Tyneside club.
And then only last Sunday, when PSG finally captured Lorient striker, Kevin Gameiro, a top Newcastle target, it seems the Magpies switched their attentions to Erdinc.
While Newcastle were obviously disappointed at not getting what looked like their top striker target in Gameiro, Alan Pardew on Sunday said the club was after another top International striker, and it seems to be Erdinc.
The offer for Erdinc, who has played 70 times for PSG with 28 goals, is now being considered by the French club.
Mevlut joined Souchaux back in 2003, and came through their Academy and finally played 84 times for the French club with 25 goals, before joining PSG in 2009, for a reported €9M, which is around £8M.
The striker played for all the Turkish youth sides, and has 10 full caps for Turkey with one goal.
With Yohan Cabaye already signed, we expect Senegal striker Demba Ba, a free agent, and Neil Taylor for around £1M, to be signed within the next week or so, and then a striker and a winger seem to be the top priorities.
Comments welcome.

Comment #1If we get him & Ba plus NZogbia & Taylor we will have a strong squad depending on Nolan, Barton & Enrique staying or going. Depending what happens in the next 5-6 weeks I’m looking forward to next season.

Comment #6Another day and no real news!
Wish we had another transfer confirmed just for something to talk about! I hope the rumour about Barnetta is true though, really rate that lad.
As for Gervinho, can we finally agree he’s not coming? Apparently he’s agreed terms with Arsehole.

Comment #8Would prefer:
Demba Ba
Shane Long
Ryan Bertrand if Enrique leaves
Kyle Walker or Nathaniel Clyne
N’zogbia
PS i don’t see Enrique getting both better wages & CL football elsewhere so i believe he will end up staying.

I think we’re going to play 4-2-3-1 next season with Tiote and Cabaye sat in the middle, two wingers pushing up and HBA as withdrawn striker.
That would be our best formation I reckon like.

Comment #11I’d like to see us bring in:

Comment #14Anton, I’d say simmo is alot better going forward than he is defending like. Got a few assists last season from bombing up the wing.
Yet whenever he’s asked to defend he backs off too much and is abit suspect.

Comment #18Qatar Holding have a 70% stake in PSG, they don’t own them out-right!!
I don’t think Ba will be coming either if the rumours are true that he wants £2m for his fee.. 😮 thats riduculas imo….
Erding is a good player but I think we may also be looking at another striker too, someone who’s not ben mentioned & this Erding rumour is covering it up somewhat, I mean, the club said they were going to spend a 8-figure sum on an International striker & £6m isn’t 8-figures, well not when I went to school anyways.. so I think its smoke & mirrors for someone else also to come to us…
I doubt we’ll also get Zogs either as Cessepool are now sniffing around him but not sure if him & Carroll will play happy familes anymore, so could be a twist in that story imo.. 🙂

Comment #20Reports in the Journo today say that interest in N Zogbia has cooled…………… big shock that !!
Perhaps a fee of about 9+million has made Fat Ash shite his pants.
Like i have said time and again we will not pay more than 6-8 million for a player while Ashley is in charge of this club.
Amazing how our supposed top targets were Gervinho Gameiro and we dont get them but supriseingly dont go after other players with similar fees and ability .
Instead our targets drop down to level c players – Why oh why have we not got other top targets ??? something just doesnt ring true about our supposed targets me thinks
Mediocrity again for next season boys

Comment #21On talksport last night they had their french correspondant on and he said he will def be leaving, he had big rep when they signed him and they expected big things but PSG struggled and he was made to be scapegoat, said he needs change of scenery to get back on track. Sounds like he will have something to prove which is always a good thing.

That team is bang on my thoughts too shape wise (4-5-1) but I have an inkling that Enrique will stay.
Tiote playing the anchor role with Cabaye feeding the striker/HBA in his roaming position.
Like JimmyMac said, I think he’ll struggle to get better wages/CL football which is why he’s trying to stall now.
Clubs know his situation but nobody other than Liverpool with their pathetic bid have even enquired?

I can see PSG accepting a couple of million less than they paid because
(a) fees are usually paid in installments where as we will be paying in one fat sum upfront
(b) Theyve just signed Gamiero (probably on a half now half in installments agreement) and we can basically ensure the first instalment they gave Lorient is made back instantly, with a further million quid extra.
Im quite excited to see this lad in black and white, people talk about his goal scoring record but it’s not as bad as some people are making out. The way I see it, I dont think Hernandez’s record this season at Man Utd was spectacular? think he scored 16, but it was his alround play and commitment which had everyone raving. Rooney scored 11 this season. By the sounds of it Erding has pace, skill, and is called the Turkish Tank. He plays on the shoulder of defenders (just like Hernandez) so theres no reason why he cant be a success at Newcastle. I think playing alongside a forward who’s more physical and can flick on is important too, so Ba seems a perfect strike partner to me.
Also, remember when Bellamy signed? I can recall thinking he’d be a flop, and i dont think he had an amazing goals per game record at the time, but he helped turn is into a very dangerous attacking force, running the channels and playing on the shoulder.
To all the doubters I say keep the faith. If Pardew rates him so highly then chances are hes also a Graham Carr recommendation. If we’re trying for him and reckon he can do the business thats good enough for me, atleast its not a long shot on Danny Grayham or like when we signed Kuqi!
Ba and Erding would be a fantastic step up for us surely that is as plain as black and white? But i know some people are never happy and always think that in every deal the fat man is trying to screw us over.
We cant sign the likes on Benzema and even Gervinho YET. Ba and Erding are some of the best available players out there. We’ll be pushing for Europe if we got Nzogbia aswell, no doubt in my mind about that.
GEET IT UP YA!

Comment #29Ba is proberby the most important as we need a target man who will get 15+ goals next season.
I heard from a mate who is a West Ham fan that they have contacted newcastle about Shola and he refused to speak to them.
Can believe the club would even consider any offer for our only recognised target man, this shows that everyone is for sale for a profit!

Comment #32also I highly doubt Martin is going anywhere and if he is it’ll be to the likes of Madrid
He’s the new Zidane according to the original, who also advised clubs to leave him at Sochaux for a few more so that he can reach his full potential.

Comment #38Think they would sell him for less than they paid as they over paid in the first place due to the fact that Sochaux didn’t want to sell at all, and least not to another french club! Its a different ownership at PSG to the 1 that signed him also, the new qatari owners were looking at buying Man Utd, thats an indication of their wealth!
he’s not going to play first team football next season after they’ve signed the new darling of french football Gamiero! I’d imagine they’ll be competition from other teams for him though, he’s a very tidy player!

Comment #39Yes. Welcome back Ed; Legend!
@tiotal football
I’d snap West Ham’s hands off if they’d bid for Shola, but clearly the lad doesnt want to leave Newcastle and the north east. Fair play!
My understanding of that would be we sign Ba, they sign Shola as his replacement. Job done. And in any case, Best played quite well in the limited number of games he had to suggest he’s atleast as good a target man as Shola. He won’t his fair share of stuff in the air and worked hard, which is more than Shola usually does.
But hey, if Ameobi wants to stay its fine by me. He wont play nearly as regularly if and when we sign 2 new centre forwards but he seems happy enough to go along with that (just like Harper for all those years)
