News today that Newcastle have launched a bid of £6M for 24 year-old PSG striker Mevlüt Erdinç.
Mevlüt Erdinç – PSG Turkish striker
The 5’11” Turkish International striker has been linked with Newcastle since last summer, when then manager Chris Hughton tried to bring him to the Tyneside club.
And then only last Sunday, when PSG finally captured Lorient striker, Kevin Gameiro, a top Newcastle target, it seems the Magpies switched their attentions to Erdinc.
While Newcastle were obviously disappointed at not getting what looked like their top striker target in Gameiro, Alan Pardew on Sunday said the club was after another top International striker, and it seems to be Erdinc.
The offer for Erdinc, who has played 70 times for PSG with 28 goals, is now being considered by the French club.
Mevlut joined Souchaux back in 2003, and came through their Academy and finally played 84 times for the French club with 25 goals, before joining PSG in 2009, for a reported €9M, which is around £8M.
The striker played for all the Turkish youth sides, and has 10 full caps for Turkey with one goal.
With Yohan Cabaye already signed, we expect Senegal striker Demba Ba, a free agent, and Neil Taylor for around £1M, to be signed within the next week or so, and then a striker and a winger seem to be the top priorities.
Comments welcome.

No I wouldn’t sell Shola.
He holds the ball up well, and gets the odd goal!
Next season, with lots of pace in the side we need someone who will hold the ball up the middle, Ba & Shola are both good at this.

Comment #42Ba had a very good 5 months in the EPL this season and looks comfortable finishing with either foot and his head
Anyone who can score 7 goals whilst playing with 10 WHU players has got to have some skill…

I also watched Best and never let anyone down, but when the chances came he fluffed!
That is why I stick with Shola. He may be a lazy sh** but he hold play up well and does know where the goal is.

tbh I don’t care if we’re a selling club as long as the players help improve us whilst they’re here. Even Man Utd sell some of their best players for profit but they still win the EPL…

Still not sure on Erdinc. Think he’d be a bit of a gamble, but if we get him, he gets my support. Not the best goal/game ratio, but, apparently, a good player.

Comment #57My ideal striker/target man for next season would be Didier Drogba or Kenwyn Jones. It is this type of battering ram player we will need with all the skill and pace behind them!

Comment #70Boom Boom, last time I checked Nolan and Barton were still at the club.
Barton may leave this summer but imo it will be his own fault for all his comments.
I really think Nolan will be going nowhere, at a push he may be sold next summer I reckon.
As for Milner we needed the money, and Bassong jumped ship.
People call us a selling club but if you take away the players that left when we got relegated we havent actually sold that many players under MA, and when we have we’ve got good money for them.

Comment #74Anyone still hoping for a quality striker to be signed?
Sturridge – Berbatov …?
Or is it to be a “better than nobody” move for Carlton Cole on August 31st?

Comment #75Erdinc is quality! Don’t judge him from his goals to games ratio last year as PSG played him in a much more withdrawn role due to favouring Guillaume Hoarau and the partnership did not click! Erdinc’s strength is playing off the shoulder of the last man, he’s got pace to burn, good touch etc! Good in the air too, his style is a little similar to Fernando Torres or a young Niclas Anelka (not saying he’s that good mind) in the way he runs through on goal a lot! On another note, he’s a religious lad, doesn’t drink, stays out of trouble etc
On a comparison note, anyone comparing him to shola ameobi knows nothing about football! They are so different in styles, wouldn’t be shocked to see a few other clubs come in for Mevlut tbh! Also, don’t be fooled by the fact he plays for turkey, this guy is french born and bred, so chances are he’ll fit straight in with all the other french players we’re trying to sign!

Comment #76I dont understand why people have been turning their nose up at Berba like, top scorer last season wasnt he?
I know its a massive longshot but if we could convince him to come we’d have a 20+ goals a season striker easily.
I still think we’ll get someone good like Geoff777.
Don’t mention Carlton Cole again til August 31st lol.

Comment #77Stuart the owners of nan u are jews the Qatar royal family are one of the worst jew haters outside Palestine this and the £1.8b makes the man u link unlikely. unfortunately with the penalty’s so great in Qatar for opening your mouth its likely to be kept quiet.

The reason I think its Man U is the spending spree they’re supposed to be on this summer seems to be far too much for the Glazers to have sanctioned. The rumour is that the Qatari’s have provided a cash injection as the first part of buying the club.
Don’t take my word for any of this though, I’m not itk, just what I’ve heard.

Comment #79Cant see us signing Burbery-top at all like fellas.
Reasoning:
a)Hes 30. In other word 4 years older than our ’26 years or younger’ buying policy
b)He’d still be about 10M + And i still agree with someones comments earlier that Mike wont spend anymore than 9mil or so on a player
c)His wages would be madness.Probably double our wage cap?
Pick the bones out of that!

Comment #80I think Berbatov would be a bit of a luxury, Stuart. He’s no spring chicken and would cost somewhere between £7m and £10m, if earlier reports about him are to be believed. Would be nice to get him, mind.
If what I’m hearing about Erding is correct, and he chooses to sign for us, we’ll have done fairly well.
