News again today that Newcastle United may be after 22 year-old Ajax winger/striker Miralem Sulejmani.
Miralem Sulejmani – maybe too expensive?
Newcastle failed to secure their number one striker target Kevin Gameiro, who surprisingly elected to stay in the French League, but Newcatsle have moved quickly and have already lodged a £6M for 24 year-old PSG striker Mevlüt Erdinç.
talkSport is reporting today that Newcastle are also monitoring the situation of Sulejmani at Ajax, but the Serbian will not come cheap, because Ajax broke the Dutch transfer record when they paid £15m for him in 2008, when he moved from Heerenveen.
He has played for Ajax 117 times with 26 goals and he is contracted to the Dutch club until 2013. The 5’10” tall player usually plays on the wing, and played 38 times for Heerenveen with 16 goals, and has so far played 7 times for Serbia.
Ajax will certainly want a big fee for this Belgrade-born player, and we wonder if he’ll be a little too expensive for Newcastle when other wingers are available for much less, such as Tranquillo Barnetta from Bayern Leverkusen, or even Charles N’Zogbia from Wigan Athletic.
What do you think?

He’s officially listed as a midfielder playmaker so I guess that means he can play all over the shop

Comment #8Here we go again! This is how it works under Ashley –
1) a puzzling, seemingly negative action is taken (hughton, carroll, nolan)
2) we get excited that something better is in place
3) we get furious when we realise there was non plan in place, let alone one which by being better justifies the first
4) we come around to things and say ‘support the club’ and have our expectations lowered yet again…
so we’re at no.2 now I guess with Martin.. hope you’re right .

Comment #9Martin Wont Replace Nolan…. If Nolan leaves, Cabaye would be the replacement, with Arfa taking the Second Striker/AM role….
So if Nolan leaves, it would not surprise me if Cabaye becomes the captain (shocking i know right…but dont bite my head off just yet…)
Think about it… if we do push ahead with our apparent plans to have our very own French Army, wouldn’t Cabaye be in the perfect spot to be the Captain?
Center of a French attack and In front of Tiote a french speaker, who if needed… can be the translator between the attack and the defence….:P

Comment #15i think its obvious who is replacement is going to be. Craig Gardner. I for one think he is a better player but nolan was a whole lot more to the team than just a player. we will also loose joey barton, jose enrique and potentially jonas and collo.

Comment #17Guess my predictions were right in regard to a complete revamping of the side.
But instead of getting rid of the deadwood, Williamson, Perch, Guthrie, Raylor, Lovenkrands, etc., it’s Nolan , Joey (next) and Toro.
Yeah there’s a lotta noise about half the players in the French and Swiss leagues, but we find the bids lack any real sincerity £3m for M’Bengue !
We got Cabeye cheap, looks like were chasing Ba (free agent) well i guess it’s gonna be People like Gardiner, Hoilett, Taylor, Brown and hopefully they will have enough sense to Get Izaguirre and Ireland.
Would lie to see N’Zog make it back also, but i dont think they want to pay the kinda dosh being asked for most players, Cheap !
Dont let your expectations overcome common sense, knowing the history of these guys.
It’s as joey mentioned, out with the highly compensated, in with the better, cheaper and younger, however that ends up, we’ll see ?

Comment #20Chuck – you said ‘in with the better, cheaper and younger’ if this is correct fine – but I somehow doubt it – and if they are then they will be sold next window

Comment #22Sign this lad up, seriously he is a VERY good player, and the way I can see it, he will only improve. His control, vision, technical ability, are first class, not to mention he’s got a great cross on him. Oh and can find the net 😉
