Demba Ba To Sign For Newcastle In Next 24 Hours

Sky Sports is reporting today that Newcastle United have won the race for Demba Ba.

Demba Ba – traveling to Newcastle for a medical

There are a number of clubs who have been after free agent Ba, but as reported last weekend it seems that an agreement was reached with Newcastle last Friday night.

Sky Sports is reporting that it turned into a two horse race, between Everton and Newcastle, with the Magpies winning the chance to sing the free agent.

Ba is now traveling to Newcastle to undergo a medical, and of course that will be important,  since he failed his medical in January at Stoke City.

And all being well on the medical side of things, the Senegal striker will sign for Newcastle within the next 24 hours.

We all have to hope the 26 year-old will pass his medical because it will be bad news for the fans, should he fail his medical on Tyneside.

He will become Newcastle’s second signing of the summer, following French International midfielder Yohan Cabaye.

    Nobody is 9# worthy. Yet. I reckon they need a season to prove that they are worthy of wearing the Number… Handing out the Number willy nilly to a new signing, in my opinion will be disrespectful….

    i agree Nufc_mo

    we need to give the number 9 to a striker who is a natural goal scorer and someone we can rely on to get 20 goals a season

    i reckon in 3/4 years, Airey could be are #9 i know he’s young but he’s showing loads of potential in the reserves and hopefully will get his chance at some point this season

    Will he fail his medical? Will it actually matter?

    I mean he failed it at Stoke and West Ham, yet WH still signed him.

    To be Honest, Joey was great on the radio, praising the club, saying he has great relationship with club, fans, players, coaching staff and even to caterers! He also talked about his contract situation in January, he said he had just found out his wife was pregnant, so he went in asking for a bit of security, he wanted to stay for another 3-4 years because he didnt want to be moving his newborn about at that age, and he was willing to take a pay cut, but they couldnt reach a compromise so he said to the club that other things were on his mind, for example, the andy carroll saga and relegation threat, so he said to wait until after safety is confirmed to negotatiate again

    then at the end of the season, he wasnt in the first meeting between club and agent, and he got a phone call saying there was no contract at all on the table for him, so he was dissapointed

    he then went on to say how he loves the club and wants to stay here as long as possible, the only way he would leave the club was if a champions league club came in for him, then he would have to considerate it, other than that, he doesnt want to leave at all, which is very understandable in my opinion,

    after, he started talking about getting back to fitness and things

    Fingers crossed he passes the medical. And furthermore (although it would never be announced) Newcastle should insisits upon something like a clause in the contract where if he should injure himself to the point where he has to retire then his contract runs on a year-by-year basis perhaps so we would only lose out on a year’s worth of wages?

    To be hoenst ive no idea its just a thought and perhaps they’ll put a clause into his contract?

    Im quite pleased though. Might be on a free but it’s goes somewhere to suggesting we are getting decent players onboard. He scored 7 in 12 last season in a poor poor West ham side, he’s very dangerous in the air and is decent in the box for his size. We just need to continue the good work and buy more quality.

    He was number 21 at West Ham. So as we don’t have that shirt taken I suppose he will wear 21.

    Im sure I read somewhere that he failed in C&B but west ham signed him anyway as they were desperate for strikers in January.

    I think we already have an a big fat offer on the table for tiote and Blaise Matuidi is hes replacement, makes no sense to sign him unless we already agreed to sell tiote.

    It’s worth looking at free signings, as well as buying players. We bought cabaye. Were possibly going to sign ba on a free. This makes financial sense, why pay a fee up front when you can get them free. We may lose Barton like that next year. Swings and roundabouts.

    Ba for a FREE or 1M or whatever Signing On Fee.
    He is VERY good for that, better than Ameobi and Shola and someone if he has 1 or 2 good season we could sell on, his Knee could be a Problem but its worth the risk.

    @John

    I think either Tiote or Matuidi will get a slightly more advanced role. Matuidi in particular has played as a playmaker before. One will focus more on defensive duties, should they both play.

    I see that Mark Douglas has said that, as well as Barnetta, two more targets will be announced in the Chronicle today. Not new names though. Martin and Sulejmani, perhaps?

    Likewise as most players recently linked with are DM, Matuidi/Mangala etc..
    OR it could be to play in DM and push Tiote further foward?

    @Everyone

    What’s the crack with Smith and Routledge. I was under the impression that they’d both been told they were no longer required and were moving on?
    Today i’ve read that Rouledge believes hes coming back to Newcastle for pre-season training and the words been very quiet on Smith joining Leeds or another lower level club.Wouldnt be suprised if he was fancied by West Ham also.
