Newcastle Go After Jose Enrique Replacement

The Daily Mirror is reporting today that Newcastle want to sign left-back Stephen Warnock from Aston Villa.

Stephen Warnock – on his way to Newcastle?

It seems that manager Alan Pardew want tie twice capped England International to replace Spanish U21 International Jose Enrique, who is due to leave Newcastle this summer to some club, and it looks like that club will be Liverpool.

But it’s not clear to us whether Warnock will now want to leave Aston Villa, given that former Birmingham boss
Alex McLeish has only today taken over as manager at Villa.

The news is that Newcastle are willing to pay around £1M for Warnock – and the wages that Stephen is getting at Villa are said to be around £45K/week, which is about that Jose is getting on Tyneside.

The Mirror is also reporting that Kenny Dalglish is trying to close in on a deal for Enrique, with the clubs still looking at valuations of various players Newcastle may take in part exchange, although Paul Konchesky will not be coming the other way.

Warnock will turn 30 in December, but Newcastle also have 19 year-old Shane Ferguson, who is likely to come through even further for the first team next season, and the Magpies are still expected to bring in 22 year-old Swansea left-back Neil Taylor for £1M.

Warnock should provide good experienced cover once Jose moves out of Newcastle, as next season’s Newcastle team looks to be a lot different than last season.

Don’t think this will happen, mcleish will be manager today/tomorrow so I think players will want to speak to him first. Decent player though.

Good player but to old for me, a still think they should look at that Van Aanholt from Chelsea even if it was a loan deal a think he is a cracking player. And this Naylor we getting apparently today I dont even no how good he is he might be a good player around better players. Would love Jose to stay but lets face it he is giving us the cold shoulder now asks for contract give him one but yet to even comment on it.

personally i hope shane ferguson takes the left back spot if jose enrique leaves. he showed enough in the game time he was given to suggest hes going to be a good player. nothing better than seeing a local player do well in your team

In a few years time Ferguson will be ready to play LB but at the minute he’s just too lightweight to play there, couple of seasons building himself up and playing LW then he’ll be ready.

There’s no real loyalty in football these days, so the Enrique situation doesn’t surprise me. He is an excellent player and he obviously wants to play at the highest level, a move is just about nailed on as a lot of clubs would have monitored him, wether his contract is about to run out or not. Therefore we need to pursue a left back of high quality now.

I disagree Fergy should be used as a winger not a LB his defensive ability is pretty low standard and he is far better playing as a winger imo
Also local lad? Hes from Ireland

Too old and not fit in our transfer policy and he’s average.

However if we can finish the deal for Ba and Naylor soon. Cabaye, Ba and Naylor for 5M !? bargain buy. We still have more 30M to spend (maybe).

I’m concerned about both full backs next year. I personally don’t think Simpson is good enough (not yet anyway) and if Enrique leaves, whoever we’re going to replace him with is unlikely to be anywhere near as capable.

Is Shane fergusons best position left back or left midfield? Either way I think he has great potential, but not in the first eleven yet. I think we need a quality left back in and use ferguson as a sub, to bring him on for the future, IMO.

Xavi -ferguson’s best postion is further up the pitch, altho he can do a job at left back. And also he isnt a local lad, hes from Northern Ireland

WWJBD… Bit of a maths problem there. Nolan 1 Barton 2 Enrique 3
Just to be clear thats 3 players.
We would have to sell another 3 regular starting players to constitute selling MOST of the first team, and since its a 18 man match day first team squad, it would really have to be another 3 players on top of that. who were regular senior subs.

WWJBD would you rather keep the same players and finish in the same place or do u want us to push onto next level. Reports suggest we offered nolan a very good contract but it wasnt long enough for him so he decides he wants to move down a level to get that extra year!! Enrique doesnt want to be here. Lets see what happens first instead of all this negative sh!t

Ferguson is a left winger, and I am sure will be a huge success in that position.
Lets not do a Charlie NZog on him and Pee him off. Bring him on in his desired position. He looks good there!!

Cheick and Bake, That would be Ryan Bertrand, decent player like but while were on the subject of the u21’s did you see henderson last night? Liverpool have been mugged there like!
    and if charlie adam goes for 10m thats;
    carroll 35m
    henderson 20m
    jones 20m
    adam 10m
    total £85m

    while we have signed;
    Cabaye 4.5m
    Tiote 3m
    Ben Arfa 5.5m
Ba (most likely) 1m signing on
    Total 14m

I like our transfer strategy atm! keep the faith

So, its seems cashleys summer plan is sell the players that have high value and replace them with players that are going cheap. Nothing against warnock, hes not bad, but hes no Enrique and Cashley is a huge fat c&&t. Would someone just strangle him, please.

Warnock’s too old, sadly. He’s not bad, but he doesn’t fit in with our buying policy. Enrique’s pretty much a gonner as well, so we need a pretty competent LB. Young Fergie is a good winger, but his defensive capabilities are not the best. I think he’ll be our Damien Duff (when he was good) in the future.

Jonas Tiote and Collo will all be less than happy with the Nolan situation and both Jonas and Collo are on big wages and the wrong end of 26 age limit we seem to have. Also have Smith who is a first team sub Routledge Xisco who would both make the bench last season if they werent sent (wrongly) on loan. Then you have the rumours of Raylor unhappy about being a bit time player. Seems like a lot of the squad to me.

    Warnock ? no way !
Simply does not conform to the age and salary cap business plan.
In case you missed it, no one over 27 and his present wage is too high.
You will notice i’m sure none of the above has anything to do with football.
Would he be a good fill in for a year or two, does experience have a role in a team, well you get the point.
But apparently our on the job owner does’nt, strictly £’s and pence

There are lots of players who can fill in at RB and LB like Perch for example 🙁 However we need specialists in both those positions and I agree with Angryman, Fergie is a left sided midfielder so lets play him there !
