We often think what Alan Pardew really thinks of the situation at Newcastle at the moment.
Alan Pardew – difficult position right now for the manager
We think Alan is a good man, and he seems a much better manager than we gave him credit for last December.
But he’s now been publicly undermined by Mike Ashley on two separate occasions at least since he arrived last December, which was another difficult situation, after Ashley had fired Chris Hughton for no apparent good reason.
The two occasions Alan has been undermined are the selling of Andy Carroll and the departure of Kevin Nolan yesterday to West Ham.
In both cases Alan made it clear he wanted to keep both players, but Ashley and Llambias did what they thought was best, which happened to be the opposite of what Pardew wanted.
But that doesn’t stop Alan from being the naturally positive and confident person he is, and again he’s looking on the bright side of things, and hopes to sign both Demba Ba and possibly Neil Taylor this week, and hopefully will get the club moving forward again.
Alan is not responsible for contracts at the club, so when Newcastle cannot agree a deal with a player, there’s not too much he can do about it, and he doesn’t have too much influence with things either.
Alan Pardew is in a difficult position, because he’s the mouthpiece for the club, since Mike Ashley and Derek LLambias never say anything to the fans, so it’s always left to Pardew to explain what happens.
And even when Alan arrived after Chris Hughton had been fired, it was Alan himself who had to answer questions from the media on why Chris was sacked, a situation Ashley and LLambias should never have allowed the new manager to be in.
The situation Alan found himself in during that first press conference was woeful, but he handled himself very well, under the rather trying circumstances.
Where was Derek Llambias for that press conference – is a very good question to ask.
Alan is indeed in a difficult position at the moment, and we would have to hope there’s more pulling in the same direction from owner Ashley, Managing Director Llambias and manager Pardew in the future.
