It Seems Strange To Sell Newcastle’s FigureHead

Sol Campbell has reacted to the strange news that Newcastle have this week sold their captain Kevin Nolan.

Sol Campbell – it seems strange to sell Kevin

Sol didn’t have a successful time at Newcastle last season, but still hopes to link up with another club for next season, and he has talked today about former Newcastle captain Kevin Nolan, and his transfer back to the Championship with West Ham United, and he has also praised the Newcastle fans.

Sol was asked about his reaction to the surprise selling of Kevin Nolan, and he told Sky Sports News today:

“Surprised?  Yes, because Nobby is a very popular player up there and has done fantastically for the team, especially when they dropped down, coming up and then securing Premier League status the following year.”

“He’s the captain as well, so he is the figurehead at Newcastle, so it was a bit strange for him.” “I looked at the situation and it does look a little bit strange, but the business up there is slightly different.”

“But they keep faith and they are great fans up there. The support around the north-east is second to none up and down the country.” “It would be nice for them to win something, really.”

The selling of Kevin and the probable departure of Joey Barton, will mean there will be a number of new players and leaders at the club next season, and that can be good or bad of course = we’ll hope it’s going to be a good thing.

And we cannot think Kevin Nolan is very happy, because he seemed to love things at Newcatsle, and he seemed a player made to play for the Tyneside club.

Unfortunately, he was only on Tyneside for a short 30 months, but he was just fantastic for the club over the last two seasons, both of which were successful ones for the club, following relegation two years ago.

But Newcastle seem to have moved quickly in the transfer market this summer, and by the end of today they could have also signed Demba Ba and Neil Taylor.

We’re all waiting some news on Demba Ba, and we wonder how that knee of Demba’s is standing up to the Newcastle medical?

And of course if nothing is reported today, there will be rumors that he may have failed his medical, but we’ll hear the news, good or bad,  soon enough.

Comments welcome.

Sky’s Graeme Bailey on Kevin Nolan to West Ham:

“I dont think it is a bad deal. If you look at what Newcastle are targeting, Nolan clearly did not have a future there anyway. Nolan was good for getting out of the Championship, but are his best Premier League days behind him, quite possibly.”

Perhaps they gave Ba a work out yesterday and are looking today to see if there was any reaction?

    It would make sense.

I cant see there being any problems with Ba, he had no issues for the Hammers in the games he played, did he?

I’m happy with the Nolan transfer.

He was about to become our next Smith.

Nolan would want 1st team football and good for him, it just isn’t gonna be at Newcastle so there’s sense in his move to WHU.

    Move on 😉

DEMBA Ba will finally complete his move to Newcastle United today.

Ba was at St James’s Park yesterday for a medical ahead of his free transfer switch to Tyneside, having activated a clause in his West Ham contract that allowed him to leave for nothing once they were relegated from the Premier League.

The frontman’s arrival will provide much-needed pace, power and a goal threat to a side.

Alan Pardew still also chasing Paris St Germain striker Mevlut Erdinc as he continues to revamp his squad.

    @ 4 & 5

Im happy with it too, he declined our contract, not for money, but for its duration, in my eyes, you dont want 30+ players still having 2-3 yrs of a contract to run.

I think the club got it right, great servant, but time to go.

The fact that he has dropped a league to get the move says it all really.

Checked out pay for play and it is quite legal as long as the player gets some payment – could be as low as minimum wage – when he is not playing.

Maybe Ba´s knee broke down during the medical and are now sitting with his lawyers and taking actions against the club for spoiling his footballing carreer.

Mactoon we don’t know what is wrong with the knee it could be one of a number of injury’s and the knee is the worst joint to damage as it has to bear the full weight of the body (so does the ankle) but the knee is more vulnerable, new procedures are now repairing injury’s that up to a year ago were crippling, I was one of the first half dozen to have a new procedure done using stem cell therapy, although results have been mixed I was able to make a full recovery, but I had the hole leg immobilised for three months the partially for a further 3 months, so if this goes tits up we could be looking at loosing him for up to 6 months.

Selling Nobby was madness, by a deluded owner who cannot take having strong personalities aroung him.

I believed the day Mike Ashley bought our club was a dark day, and I haven’t seen anything to change my mind.

I listen to people who love the club, and have worked or seen inside i.e. Keegan and Shearer who both believe the current owner is bad for the club and the area.

Oh, yes, he is balancing the books. Bloody good that will be back in the championship!

Once again I give benefit of doubt as like you I have blind faith, but I, like you need impressing like NOW!

Nobby is 28 years old, has 2 years left on his contract, would you not have left him for one more season to help all the new players settle in and get the culture?
Or do you believe the current ream culture is wrong? as it was created by Nobby Nolan, not the management.

Shut Up Sol! Nobody cares what you think!

Nolan is a character and a leader, he wouldn’t have been happy sitting on the bench, Pardew would have felt obliged to play him.

At the end of the day we have better players in Tiote and Arfa even Joey and hopefully Cabaye to play in our midfield, would have been nice to get more than 4M for him, but to be honest I can’t see anyone in their right minds would have paid more than that for him. (No matter how many goals he managed to tap in last season!)

Thanks Kev for your efforts, but I’m not going to cry about losing you. (Enrique on the other hand, I might)
