The Sun is reporting today that Leon Best has been told by Newcastle that he can leave the club.
Leon Best – told he can leave Magpies
We find this a little surprising, if it’s true, since Leon scored 6 goals in 11 appearances for Newcastle this year, including 9 starts and played very well.
The Ireland striker seemed to improve under Alan Pardew, and hit a great hat-trick in his Premier League debut in Newcastle’s 5-0 hammering of relegated West Ham.
The news is that Shola Ameobi and Peter Lovenkrands will stay on Tyneside, but now Leon Best joins 20 year-old London lad Nile Ranger, as strikers who can leave Newcastle this summer.
The Magpies will be hoping Senegal and former West Ham striker, Demba Ba, can pass his medical today, and sign on for the club, and Newcastle are also after at least one more striker to bring in over the summer.
But with Kevin Nolan having moved on to West Ham in the Championship, and Jose Enrique potentially finally moving soon to Liverpool (what a saga that has been), the squad will be a lot changed next season.
We thought Best deserved a shot at trying to get a first team place at Newcastle, but we suppose he didn’t do enough, if this news is indeed true.
What do you think?
