Demba Ba is having a medical today at St. James’ Park, and we hope the club will be able to announce his signing today.
Demba Ba – undergoing medical on Tyneside
But we are also holding our breath a bit over his dodgy knee, which failed him his medical at Stoke in January, when he was all ready to sign for the club for £6M.
Of course Newcastle are getting the player as a free agent, and as long as his knee holds up in the medical and in general, he could be an excellent acquisition for Newcastle.
Newcastle are also in talks to bring in 24 year-old Mevlut Erdinç, the Turkish striker currently at PSG, and they are almost certain to bring in 22 year-old Neil Taylor from Swansea, for a contract release fee of around £1M.
Taylor was on Tyneside yesterday, and if things can get sorted out quickly with his terms, he could even be announced along with Ba, as another new signing for the club.
So it seems to be the changing of the guard at Newcastle, and from the players Newcastle are being linked with, it seems the team could be a lot more skillful next season, but manager Alan Pardew will still have his work cut out for him this summer, to get the side gelling together, before the season starts in mid-August.
And the Newcastle Journal is reporting today, that even if the club acquires both Ba and Erdinc, they will still be bringing in another forward.
And with all these new players coming in, it’s not particularly good news for fringe players at Newcastle.
And as we reported very early today, striker Leon Best will be put up for sale, with the club wanting £4M for the 24 year-old former Coventry and Southampton striker, who was born in Nottingham.
And we think a number of Championship clubs would take him for that, as he has looked very good this year in the Premier League.
Joey Barton is also available for transfer, but no club has moved for Joey yet, but we think a number of Newcastle players could still be moved out in late August, when the transfer window comes to an end, and push comes to shove for a lot of clubs.
Comments very welcome.

Comment #9Sign more strikers please! For me, Best eventhough he scored some goals last season, Ameobi, Lovenkrants and Ranger are not top 7 teams strikers.
Might get some sticks for that comment but i´ll take it.. 🙂

I assume it’s because we negotiate very hard. Look at Liverpool and Man U, they got deals done quickly. But they paid well over the odds both of them.
I want to get early in this post and just let everyone know that reading a player is for sale in the paper and the player actually being sold is not the same thing.

Comment #14TS-77 I think you could argue none of our strikers our even premiership strikers nevermind top 7!
Ranger hasnt scored in 28 appearances or something like that
Ameobi is the only player who can jump shorter than he stangs
Lovenkrands just cant collect the ball from knock ons
Best just isnt quite up to it

News coming from the capital
This is very true Chelsea want to lone Daniel Sturridge out to a club out side the top eight to upset the top half of the table he would not be able to Play against chelsea tho.
Newcastle untied have asked about his requirement, bolton 50/50 Newcastle 50/50 it’s up
the him and his agents
Chelseas new manager may wish to keep a hold of him so nothing will happen until mid July but watch this space

Comment #19I wouldnt really be gutted if Best was sold to be honest… espescially if Ba is being brought in as his replacement and Newcastle are still bringing in two more Presumably french forwards aswell…..
Especially if we can make a decent profit on Best… we bought him at 1mill right? Selling him for a fee of Maybe 4mill+ and in my opinion that is very Good Business… That is ofcourse if we get two pacey forwards (after signing Ba)
You can Argue that Ba and Best have a similar Goal tally, 7 for BA and 6 for Best in their first season in the premier League….(However Best has started more games for Newcastle 24 – Including Coca Cola League, in an arguably more motivated team then West Ham)
Ba is only a year Older and 1 1/2 inches taller then Best and is coming for Free. With Best out the door thats arguably a free 3-4million for the Club to Hopefully Spend in the Transfer Window…
This is all based on the assumption that we will still be bringing in two forwards after Ba is Confirmed….
So if my Assumption is right and Best is Sold, it would be very good business in my honest opinion.

They have to be the weakest squad of strikers in the Premier League.
All should be moved on and replaced.
Ba, Erdinc and Berbatov (rotating) would do very nicely with Barnetta and Jonas on the wings and Tiote and Cabaye in the middle. And don’t forget Ben Arfa returning plus, possibly, the purchase of Matuidi and Gardner.
With the sales of Nolan and Barton it’s certainly financially within our reach.
When you add the likes of Ferguson and Gosling that would sound very appetising!

Comment #26Its strange many of them posting the Best rumour, so it sounds to be true but they cannot think ANY Championship team will pay £4M, when the Leading Top Scorer last season moved for less.
Problem ive seen already is people happy with Ba replacing either Best but tbh we struggled and needed him last season, why keep Loven and Ameobi both near 30 both not that good id keep Best over Strolla/Loven.
Only problem i see apart from that is people are forgetting we still need to replace Andy AND BUILD to this squad not constantly replacing because you never improve or be able to mount ANY Challange like that.

Im not keen or Erdinc his ratio of goals is very poor over the last few season,
Played 65 Games for PSG and scored 23 which is around a goal every 2.8 games, pretty average.

Comment #32i like who we are going for,, the team should have a very attack look to it, which also means playing in the teams half, as i thought we got pushed back in our half way to easy last season

Comment #33JackButler-would be very happy with those (smith/perch/xsico-out) I would be happy with Best and Ameobi(that is my personal opinion only before you all kick off) as back up (Ameobi just for the two games we play against scum)
We need to sign soon and bed in during USA trip.

English players aren’t value for money. We are going for a Welsh international, and that looks like a very good deal indeed.

I see your point, but we need a mix, don’t you think? The only reason we were comfortable (sort of) last year was becasue of the team spirit. With all the players out especially influencial players, bringing in foriegn players only create differnt cultures which are not so easy to gel immediately.
but anyway, the earlier we sign players the more time they have to build team spirit.

Comment #39I’m assuming we arent getting rid of perch for three reasons.
– He’s on a cheap payroll
– He’s ok to be a squad player, really doesn’t play much
– If we got rid, we’d have to replace
All that said, i doubt we’re gonna say no if someone comes in for him.
