Arsenal Now Favorites To Sign Newcastle’s Jose Enrique

News today that Arsenal are after Newcastle United left-back Jose Enrique.

Jose Enrique – soon to be an Arsenal player?

Roma have put in a reasonable bid for Arsenal left-back Gael Clichy, and it seems that Arsenal will accept the bid.

So Gunners’ manager Arsene Wenger is now after a suitable replacement, and the club are going after Jose Enrique, if news reports this morning are to be believed.

It seems that Arsenal and Liverpool are now both officially in for the player – so we have to hope it drives the price up.

😀

The news is coming from The Times, which is usually a reliable news source on these things.

The Newcastle manager Alan Pardew said this week that Jose didn’t seem interested in signing the new contract that has been offered to him by Newcastle, and of course if he doesn’t want to play for Newcastle United he should be moved out.

This is what Alan had said:

“He has Champions League aspirations and he is waiting to see whether anyone who has qualified for that competition is willing to come in for him,”

“That is his right and there isn’t much more we can do about it.

“We have tried as hard as we can, in the financial situation we are in, to keep him.”

“We offered him an excellent deal, but he doesn’t seem to be interested in signing it at the moment.”

“It is frustrating – but that is the situation we are in.”  “It is up to him, but he wants to see what else there is for him.”

So it’s being reported that Arsenal are now hot favorites to sign him, because the famous London club can offer him European Champions League football, which Liverpool cannot do next season.

Jose has given Newcastle four seasons of great service and has become a favorite of the Newcastle crowd, but he has been linked with a move away from the Magpies ever since Andy Carroll was sold to Liverpool in January.

It’s been a long running saga this year – much too long in fact, but presumably it will soon reach a conclusion.

It’s hard to say the Newcastle transfer business has been boring so far this summer, and it’s only mid June.

But Newcastle are letting some of their established stars like kevin Nolan and Jopse Enrique go, and it seems certain to us Joey barton will not be at Newcatsle come September, whatever he says about it.

Newcastle today brought in Rennes free agent midfielder Sylvain Marveaux on a five year deal on Tyneside.

Agreed ilovetoon8788, however, given the signings are starting to come in, I am hoping Jose may have a rethink and stay? It all very much depends on how much wedge he wants I suppose?

Sell him and buy any French speaking LB. We cant do with Spanish ones when we’re starting a French Revolution! Cheick M’Bengue for whatever we get for Jose minus 2 mill sounds good to me, plus about half of Jose’s wages 🙂

Enrique didn’t really impress in the last few games.

I’d rather he went to Barça but if he continues to play badly the scousers can have him.

I agree. Even though Enrique looks set to be on his way our replacement will not be as good as him and that’s a fact. He’s 1 of the best left backs on the planet and probably the best left back we will ever have for a long time. I really hope he stays as he can save us lots of money to find a replacement.

But just can’t see it happening..

Lol Ed, shouldn’t right articles as soon as u’ve woken. And while u’re at it, remember to spellcheck “Newcastle”, u’re writing allot “Newcatsle” lately…

    On another note:
Enrique, we’ve show ambition and we’ll continue to show it. We’ll have a shot at Europe if this keeps up, now sign the contract!!

I agree he was very poor in the last few games, but that’s not because he’s poor but more like he just switched off for us. Most of our attacks the whole of last season was result of Enrique’s runs down the left. Speaks volumes.

So far we have only tinkered with our midfield and our strikers. I think if we limit the changes to our defence as much as possible this will be a prudent move. It’s a big change to come from France to England in the style of play. I’d prefer if the new imports are as far away from the defence as possible where their creativity will be a threat and if they make a mistake it’s still solid behind.

I think with so many French players they’re likely to settle faster as they will not feel isolated and will know each other.

Jose sign up or just be honest!

Well Gibbs said at end of this season that he wants first team football so he can have england future a think we should maybe stick a cheeky bid in unless they swap enrique for him plus give us about 7m a would take it like then bring in CB RB then go for a big ST.
