News today that Arsenal are after Newcastle United left-back Jose Enrique.
Jose Enrique – soon to be an Arsenal player?
Roma have put in a reasonable bid for Arsenal left-back Gael Clichy, and it seems that Arsenal will accept the bid.
So Gunners’ manager Arsene Wenger is now after a suitable replacement, and the club are going after Jose Enrique, if news reports this morning are to be believed.
It seems that Arsenal and Liverpool are now both officially in for the player – so we have to hope it drives the price up.
š
The news is coming from The Times, which is usually a reliable news source on these things.
The Newcastle manager Alan Pardew said this week that Jose didn’t seem interested in signing the new contract that has been offered to him by Newcastle, and of course if he doesn’t want to play for Newcastle United he should be moved out.
This is what Alan had said:
āHe has Champions League aspirations and he is waiting to see whether anyone who has qualified for that competition is willing to come in for him,ā
āThat is his right and there isnāt much more we can do about it.
āWe have tried as hard as we can, in the financial situation we are in, to keep him.”
“We offered him an excellent deal, but he doesnāt seem to be interested in signing it at the moment.”
“It is frustrating ā but that is the situation we are in.”Ā āIt is up to him, but he wants to see what else there is for him.ā
So it’s being reported that Arsenal are now hot favorites to sign him, because the famous London club can offer him European Champions League football, which Liverpool cannot do next season.
Jose has given Newcastle four seasons of great service and has become a favorite of the Newcastle crowd, but he has been linked with a move away from the Magpies ever since Andy Carroll was sold to Liverpool in January.
It’s been a long running saga this year – much too long in fact, but presumably it will soon reach a conclusion.
It’s hard to say the Newcastle transfer business has been boring so far this summer, and it’s only mid June.
But Newcastle are letting some of their established stars like kevin Nolan and Jopse Enrique go, and it seems certain to us Joey barton will not be at Newcatsle come September, whatever he says about it.
Newcastle today brought in Rennes free agent midfielder Sylvain Marveaux on a five year deal on Tyneside.

Comment #88Tbh, i think we can cross Zoggy off the list now, and Barnetta just became slightly more unlikely, if he indeed prefers the left wing.
As long as Barton doesn’t leave, im guessing we’re looking at 1-2 more strikers and an LB and an RB. We look pretty complete in the midfield, tbh, we look like a top 4 club in the midfield.

Would you have matched WHU’s offer for Nolan? 5 years on 50k/week?

So far then only KN left, which you wouldn’t have matched… 4 players in.
2 players from a reliable source close to signing… Can’t you be a little optimistic?

Comment #93Well if arsenal are indeed favourite to get Enrique, and AP has any sense, Gibbs should be our player next season, also, if Barton is to go (which seems more and more likely) Martin would definitely be the perfect replacement! And we all know how desperate we are for a class striker – que the arrival of sturridge

You’re eager to hold your optimism, but quick to be pessimistic…
Look mate, you may be right. But I think that if they can improve the squad without spending any money, then so be it. We can “keep our powder dry” as someone put it what’s the harm. At least it gives us the option of spending the cash on established players later.

Comment #108IN: striker, forward-playmaker-winger, DM, LB, CB x1 each
OUT: Enrique, Barton, Best/Stroller/Loven, Smith
then it’ll be DONE.
Routledge, Raylor, Perch, Guthrie staying only coz of (relatively) cheap packages plus no offers for them …

Comment #111why doesnt enrique just have the balls to come out and say hes going, gutted as i would be its clear he doesnt want to play for us hes hanging on until he gets a good deal, nufc want to threaten to withdraw the offer if its not signed within 7 days , nufc survived without enrique before he came and will survive long after he goes , and that applies to EVERY player , im getting bored with the whole farce jose so eff off and let us get on with building a team of players who WANT to be here, but as previously said by the stupid prices being paid today i would put a 20mill tag on him and tell arsene to put up or shut up , much the same as him with cesc and barca, i would be gutted to lose colo he was without doubt one of the best, most consistent defenders in the prem last season
