Rather surprising news today on the transfer front, is that Spanish club Seville are trying to sign Newcastle’s Argentine center-back Fabricio Coloccini.
Fabricio Coloccini – 7M price tag put on player
Spanish club Seville have put in a bid for the player but it didn’t match the £7M price put on the player by the Tyneside club.
The news is being reported in the Sun, so we’re not sure just how accurate this news is, but usually once Newcastle put a price on a player, the first club to meet that price – and Newcastle will sell.
The Sun is reporting that Seville will go no higher than £5M for the player who cost over £10M from Deportivo three years ago, and has made 115 appearances for Newcatsle with 4 goals since then, and is a huge favorite with the Newcastle crowd.
So it would be a real surprise if Newcastle sell Coloccini this summer, since he was one of Newcastle’s best performers over the last two seasons.
Another point is that the Argentine is on a massive wage of over £65K/week on Tyneside, and many clubs would not be able to match that figure, even if they agreed a transfer fee with Newcastle.
But of course on the other side of the coin, that may be one reason Newcastle will be willing to unload Fabricio this summer, and get something for the player, whose contract runs out in two years, and will not be renewed – at least not at the same wage level.
But a danger this summer is that Newcastle will change their squad too much, and surely they need to keep some of their proven performers, although if Newcastle are willing to sell their captain Kevin Nolan to a Championship club, then any player could presumably be shipped out this summer.
And the other possible outgoing transfer news today, on the Newcastle front, is that Bolton Wanderers are interested in Newcastle’s 20 year-old 6’2″ striker Nile Ranger.
Newcastle have put the London youngster on offer, and are said to want only about £1M for the England U20 International.
Blackpool have also been interested in the Highgate-born striker, who played 54 times for Newcastle with 3 goals, but failed to convince manager Alan Pardew over the last six months, that he had a future on Tyneside.
The Newcastle transfer action continues to be hectic, with the club having signed free agents Demba Ba and Sylvain Marveaux yesterday and today respectively.
French U21 International Marvaux has been signed on a five year deal, and Senegal International striker Demba Ba has accepted a three year deal.

Comment #86I hope this is just a bad bad rumour. The additions look good…. but to rip apart the nucleus of the side is so bad its not worth contemplating. Does Nile want to leave? If not lets keep him, maybe a loan spell, i think its just confidence, i,m sure there are goals in him and if its a £1m price tag i,d rather keep him.

Comment #87if colo goes I’ll eat me hat! He is vital to the team, more than Nolan Enrique and Barton! He is the only person i would think, wait a minute, why are we selling our most proven, consistent performer?
