Demba Ba, the 26 year-old Senegal striker left West Ham yesterday for Newcastle United, after taking advantage of a relegation clause in his contract, which made him a free agent once the London club were relegated
Demba Ba – delighted to be at Newcastle
Ba signed a three-year deal, worth a total of around £4M, and that’s roughly about £25K/week – whoops – I had that earlier as £250K/week – sorry about that – it’s got to be that pain medication.
That followed talks he had yesterday with manager Alan Pardew, on where the manager planned to take the North-East club over the next few seasons.
Ba said the following yesterday afternoon, after he had signed for Newcastle United:
“This club is on the up.” “I’ve come here as I feel the club can reach a higher level than most of the other clubs in the Premier League.”
“Things will go from strength to strength. This is a club that will improve and I want to be somewhere like that.” “When I spoke to the manager, I was happy with the ambition Newcastle are showing.”
“We talked and they spoke about where they want this club to be, the players they want to sign and I was pleased to hear that they want the same things I want to achieve.”
“I came here because of the club, it’s massive and with a great history. For me, it was a simple decision. I’ll get better here.”
Demba Ba should be able to score some goals for Newcastle next season, if his form is anything like it was for West Ham this year, when he scored 7 goals in just 13 appearances for the London club, but still couldn’t save the London club from the dreaded relegation.
And we were sent this chant about Demba Ba from one of our readers – Adam in Australia – for those who can get to the games:
Ba Ba Demba have you many goals?
Yes sir yes sir more then Andy Cole!
One against Arsenal, two against United
And three against the Mackham scum, who live down the lane!
Maybe United should be replaced by the Devils – as in Red Devils – but it seems a decent chant to us.
Here’s the status of the Newcastle transfer business so far this summer
