There’s a report out there today, that Newcastle want Tottenham striker Robbie Keane at St James’ Park this summer – you talk about old stale news.
Robbie Keane – very surprised if Newcastle want this player
That story was once true – but only if you back-tracked 12 months – and it’s now it;s rather inaccurate, in our view.
There’s just no way Newcatsle will be interested in a player who is past his best – and as we’ve all seen so far this summer, Newcatsle want younger players, with their best times still ahead of them.
Newcastle’s experience with Sol Campbell last season will hardly convince Mike Ashley to invest big wages in a player who turns 31 next month.
Robbie has just one year left on his contract at Spurs, but is on huge wages at Tottenham, and even if the transfer fee is low, The Irish captain’s wages would be far too high for a player who is not the future of Newcatsle.
But we still keep seeing these daft stories being put out, which were true 12 months ago, and simply seem to be regurgitated as if things hadn’t changed at Newcastle over the last year.
What do you think?

Comment #41I think Harper will get dropped like. Krul has been making noises about moving if he’s not first choice keeper. I don’t think newcastle will want to lose him as he’s got about 13 years left in him, Harper, as much as hes a loyal player is getting on and probably would be sacrificed to keep Krul.

Comment #44Robbie Keane. Now lets see, couldnt hit a cows arse with a banjo, and hardly set the world on fire for West Ham last year. Do we really want a 31 year old who’s best days are long behind him? Shane Long or Erdinc or Podolski are far better options, with improvement and potential still ahead of them, and more importantly will score goals, thus keeping Lovenkrands Shola and Ranger (till he sorts out his attitude and becomes a proper player), out of the team.

Comment #45Why are you all taking this seriously?
Your way off the mark here with this one Ed!
No way would Ashley sanction such a move!!!

Comment #46If Jonas felt he was a better player on the right he’d probably have suggested swapping wings to the manager.
Even for a few minutes a game … he doesn’t.
Jonas is great at relieving pressure. He can take the ball and move it forward.
9 times out of ten he loses it it on the edge of the box after he cuts inside.
He rarely gets crossing it right and is a crap shot, but he gets us loads of free-kicks.

Comment #49This is the type of signing i imagine we would have gone for with our “old regime”, we would have probably thrown massive wages at him as well…. not what we need, at all.

Comment #50if he is willing to decrease his wages, then we should sign him.. a proven goalscorer.
