News today that any chance of Newcastle bidding for Chelsea’s Daniel Sturridge is dependent on whether Chelsea can acquire Brazilian wonder-kid Neymar.
Neymar – top Chelsea target
Chelsea have been pursuing Neymar da Silva Santos Júnior – let’s just call him Meymar like everybody else – for some months now, and the 19 year-old Brazilian striker looks like a future world star.
Since 2009, Neymar has played at Pele’s former club, Santos, and has so far made 88 appearances for them with 44 goals, and he has 6 Brazil caps with 3 goals.
The Journal is suggesting today that if Chelsea can capture the player, that will put Daniel Sturridge even further down the striker pecking order at Chelsea, and the London club may then be willing to sell their 21 year-old.
Even though the England Under-21 striker has been listed as being worth up to £20M in the gossip press lately, it seems that as little as £10M would be needed to sign the powerful 6’2″ striker.
Daniel certainly looked the part when he scored 8 goals for Bolton in just 12 appearances this year, while on loan.
Bolton manager Owen Coyle would love to take him on loan again for next season, but if Neymar arrives, we’d just love to see Newcastle move quickly for this Birmingham-born striker – and for £10M he would be a great buy for the club.
And with PSG wanting a rather ridiculous £10M for Newcastle striker target Mevlut Erdinc, Newcastle will wait things out to see what happens at Chelsea.
Demba Ba and Sturridge could be a very powerful striker partnership at Newcastle.
