Who Should Be Newcastle’s New Captain? – Poll

Kevin  Nolan has done a seemingly premature departure from Newcastle this summer, with two years still left on his contract.

Steven Taylor – new Newcastle captain?

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew will now need to pick a new captain before the season starts on August 13th – unlucky for some.

Newcastle do have some decent candidates already at the club in Joey Barton, Steven Taylor and Fabricio Coloccini.

Ivory Coast International Cheick Tiote could also be in the frame, although it would be a surprise if Cheick got the nod from Pardew.

We have no idea what Alan is thinking on this topic, since it’s still a bit of a shock that Kevin left so quickly last week, and to play in the Championship with Sam Allardyce at West Ham, seems more than strange.

We’ll also include Ben Arfa, since we see a few of the readers bought his name up in a previous discussion on this, and he could also be our best player next season.

We’ll also put in an unnamed candidate – a player who is yet to arrive at the club.

The candidates will also include Joey Barton, although we expect Joey to be moved out this summer, and even if he stays we don’t think Pardew will give the captaincy to somebody who will be leaving next summer, at the latest.

We’ll include Yohan Cabaye, our new signing from Lille, since the Frenchman seems tot have good leadership abilities.

Each reader has a single vote.

Taylor all the way. Local lad with a big voice, and also a great influence on and off the pitch, unlike a certain Mr.Barton .

hmmm maybe taylor or even another player thats yet to arrive. i think ben arfa’s too young to be a captain and plus we’ve only seen him for a few games. someone influential in the mould of van der vaart or something 0_o

Far too early to even consider who the captain could be for next season as we have no idea who is leaving and who is coming in

Mine would be Collo or Barton but I believe both will be away this summer

How can someone vote Joey Barton? Hes not gonna be here after next season so whats the point!!

Cheik Tiote all the way!!! Lead by example and it could also calm him down so he stops getting tons of yellow cards

Read that Nolan regret article its very much written with black and white glasses on. Ba a prolific goal scorer? Berbatov coming in? Being linked with Hazard? Howay

I still don’t think Nolan wanted to leave he just did what was best for his family so there will always have regret about it imo

I can see Taylor being a good captain but even though this sounds a bit contradictive i dont even want him playing in the first team. I think we could sign a better player than him quite easily and not for a huge sum of money. For me its got to be Barton i think, i know hes only here for a season but we all know he can take a captains role and will be the gel for the newer players and older ones. We can then asess throughout the season who of our new players could fill the role for next season, tiote would be a good choice i think as he will hopefully be much better with his english by then and obviously can speak french aswell so the rest of our french international team can understand him too.

You need someone in the Nolan mould.
Someone who will literally kick arse and carry players on and off the pitch when required!!

Someone who knows what pulling the black and white shirt on means to the fans.

A fist clenching, teeth gritting animal who will get stuck in and protect his team mates when neccessary……..

Not many like that left at the club im afraid.

Collo is no good, he is classed as the quiet man at the club, along with tiote!!

Taylor has an opinion of himself and himself only.

Bartoon on the way out with Jonas (As predicted on twatter, eat your heart out warris the arris)

IF and its in capitals coz its a big IF, we get rid of Enrique, Bartoon and Jonas…….

That will be the backbone of the team gone and bringing in a load of frenchmen (Not sying they are poor players) to kick of ftheir season against a very settled team in Arsenal and then the Scum who will turn the game into a war…….well. I fear for us in our first few games….games we should be looking to dominate and win!!

New players take time to settle, wholesale changes are wrong, no matter how you look at it!

I’d have voted for Barton but after his recent comments I don’t think he’s likely to play for us again let alone be given the armband.

Shame, Joey was the best English midfielder in the EPL last season until he said as much.

Not Steven Taylor. He´s not good enough. Always terrible defending and gives the opposition easy goals. Not Good enough and that´s final.

If he gets the armband he will have a sense of responsability so it could help him get less yellows, hes also our best player so will be able to lead by example on the pitch.

Didnt Nolan get 10 yellow cards last season so he must of missed at least 3 games through suspension. Tiote missed 6 i think because of the red card vs Stevenage so hes not that agressive.

tbh you cant go wtih Barton without renewing his contract so hes out, the rest dont speak english so stevie taylors out….
collo doesnt speak french so hes out, cabaye is to quiet as is ben arfa, new player is too speculative so im going for not sure.. i think he makes the perfect captain by the means of deduction

HATEM BEN ARFA — he seems to know all the french players — we might have a whole new except 3 or 4 players staying in the first 11 …. didnt he have something to do with cabaye and ba and abeid signing for us .. obviously he is influential.. obviously best player in our team .. it might give him more confidence and make him into a better player …

With all these changes, and Ashley and lapdog Pardew obsessed with ripping the spine and spirit outta the club I’m fearing for our league position next season. Think we’ll be making a few steps back before we’ll move forward again.

They want to make TOO MANY changes too soon which is not good. All of these untried french players we’re gonna get ripped apart by Arsenal and the scum in August. Come winter time they’re all gonna shy away as it’ll be too cold for them (cue gloves leggings and snoods)

    Notts

Thing is Tiote has a reputation now so he will get yellow cards regardless as they come with the position he plays in. He will also be away for the Afican Cup for atleast a month so add that on top of his bans and its adding up.

He also isn’t a leader on the pitch possibly you could argue that he wasent because he was alongside Nolan but Barton comes accross as a leader in the same team.

Sorry like Tiote is a no go imo

Honestly, what the hell is happening at our club? Clearly those in charge have no idea how building a team works.

Can someone tell me why (if it is true) we are willing to listen to offers for Jonas??

We might as well tell Enrique to leave if that’s the case.

I honestly would not like to see any of the names mentioned as our captain. Taylor most likely, purely because he’s a Geordie.

Ben Arfa was our best player, but he relied so much on skill that having not touched a football for 8 months could have detrimental effects on his ability.

If (and its a big IF) Joey Barton stays for next season, then he should be made captain. I think that’s the only way to stop any subversive disruptive influence he might be planning.

@TDS – I’m really not sure. I think so. every article I’ve read that lists the transfers we’ve made so far includes him like but hes not on the official site I don’t think.

Maybe its just a case of his contract winding down then he signs properly on July 1st.

Taylor needs a full season in the team.
Hopefully he’ll be able to play alongside Colo.

We really don’t need to be changing more than one player in a back four.

But this is silly season. A major unplanned clear out seems under way.

    Who’s the best 24 year-old centre-back in La Ligue with a 50 Euro buy-out-clause?

Sell Willo, get two French lads for the price of one.

    Younger, better, cheaper …
Repeat it 100 times before you go to bed. Best not let the wife hear you …
